Services: (800) FLUOROELASTOMER REPLACEMENT SEAL KIT This kit will convert a hydraulic cylinder for use with fire resistant hydraulic fluid. Although the following instructions refer to a large group of spring return cylinders that are very similar, the various cylinders may differ in the number and type of pieces in the assembly. Important: All other components of the hydraulic system must be able to withstand exposure to the fire resistant hydraulic fluid. Any repair work must be performed by qualified personnel in a dust-free environment. REPLACING THE COUPLER 0-RING (See Figure 1) 1. With an o-ring pick, remove the o-ring (#1) from the groove in the inner wall of the coupler. Discard the o-ring. 2. Remove the socket head cap screw (#2) and copper washer (#3) from the base of the hydraulic cylinder. Discard the copper washer. 2. Unscrew the retainer nut (#4) and remove it from the cylinder body (#5) 3. Remove the rod wiper (#6) from the retainer nut (#4). Discard the rod wiper. 4. 11 Operating Instructions, Form , Back sheet 1 of 1 INSTALLING THE FLUOROELASTOMER SEALS IMPORTANT: Clean all parts and lubricate with fire resistant hydraulic fluid before reassembly. 5 TON CYLINDERS 1. See Figure 2. Remove the retainer ring (#8), retainer washer (#9) and the u-cup piston seal (#10). Discard the retainer washer and the u-cup piston seal. 2. See Figure 4. Position the new backup washer (#11) and new u-cup piston seal (#10) on the cylinder rod. Reassemble, the retainer ring (#8) on the cylinder rod. 10, 25, 55 & 100 TON CYLINDERS 1. See Figure 3. Remove the retainer ring (#8), retainer washer (#9) and the u-cup piston seal (#10). Discard the retainer washer and the u-cup piston seal. 2. See Figure 4. Position the new backup washer (#11) and new u-cup piston seal (#10) on the cylinder rod. Reassemble the retainer ring (#8) on the cylinder rod. 15 TON CYLINDERS 1. See Figure 3. Remove the retainer ring (#8), retainer washer (#9) and the u-cup piston seal (#10). Discard the u-cup piston seal. 2. See Figure 5. Position the new backup washer (#11) and new u-cup piston seal (#10) on the cylinder rod. Reassemble the retainer washer (#9) and retainer ring (#8) on the cylinder rod. Important: If installing a leather backup washer, the smooth side of the washer should be against the metal surface; the rough side should be against the seal Figure Figure Figure Figure 5 REASSEMBLING THE CYLINDER (See Figure 1) IMPORTANT: Clean all parts and lubricate with fire resistant hydraulic fluid before reassembly. 1. Insert the cylinder rod (#7) into the cylinder body (#5). Important: Do NOT cut the u-cup piston seal on the cylinder body threads. 2. Insert the new rod wiper (#6) into the retainer nut (#4). Thread the retainer nut firmly back into the cylinder body (#5). Refer to the cylinder Parts List for torque specifications. 3. Insert the socket head cap screw (#2) with the new copper washer (#3) through the hole in the base of the cylinder body. Screw the socket head cap screw into the threads of the spring retainer (#12) and tighten securely. Refer to the cylinder Parts List for torque specifications.
