31 Section V Operation axcs Magellan CMU Delivery Head The axcs Magellan unit offers the following design features: Operation of three handpieces and a syringe. Drive air and coolant water may be adjusted individually for each handpiece. Foot control toggle valve allows wet or dry cutting. Master switch turns entire unit ON and OFF. Easy cleaning and disinfecting. Master Switch Controls Traditional & Euro-Style Head The master toggle switch located in the rear of the delivery unit controls the ON/OFF function of air, water and electricity to the entire unit. Flip the toggle switch to the right to turn ON the unit. IMPORTANT: At the end of each work day, and anytime the unit is unattended, make sure the master control switch is in the OFF position. An automatic CUT OFF, which can be demonstrated by placing tubing in the hanger and disabling operation for that position. Rotate Handpiece Holder Set Screw Instrument Hanger The handpiece holder angle can be adjusted by using an Allen wrench to loosen two set screws and rotating the holder to the desired angle; then retightening the screws. An oil collector/filter is designed to collect oil from the handpiece exhaust air. Periodically check the filter for cleaning or replacement by lifting the delivery head cover and removing the screws that secure the filter cover. Master ON/OFF Switch Swing-Away Instrument Hanger Traditional Head This feature s design allows the following functions: The entire instrument hanger bar can be moved to the left or right to provide easy access to the optional tray on top of the delivery head. Grasp the delivery head with one hand; with the other hand, grasp the instrument hanger bar handle and move it to the left or right Euro-Style Head Oil Collector/ Filter This feature s design allows the following functions: The multi-positional tray pivots around from left to right. The multi-positional tray can also move back and forth for easy tubing access. 30 Installation, Operation and Care Manual

32 Section V Operation Euro-Style Delivery Head Handpieces Coolant Water Spray Coolant water spray to all the handpieces can be turned ON or OFF using the toggle switch located on the foot control. The coolant spray volume is manually adjustable for each handpiece by using fingers. 1. While operating the handpiece, turn the water coolant valve counterclockwise to increase the volume of coolant water spray. Handpieces and syringe instruments conveniently lay in four recessed areas on top of the delivery head cover. Delivery Head Positioning The horizontal and vertical location of delivery head can be varied by doing the following: To vary the horizontal location, push or pull the instrument hanger bar handle. To raise the delivery head, lift up the instrument hangar bar handle. Brake Release Button To lower the delivery head, depress the brake release button, lift slightly on the handle and push the head down using the handle. Release the button when the delivery head is in the desired position. (Traditional Delivery Head Shown) 2. To decrease the volume, turn the water coolant valve clockwise. Air Pressure Water Coolant Valves Air Pressure Adjustment Screws Air pressure to each handpiece can be adjusted to the manufacturer's specifications by following the instructions in Section IV Testing under the heading Drive Air Pressure on Page 28. NOTE: These procedures must be done while: The master switch is in the ON position, The handpiece is out of its holder and The foot control is fully depressed. NOTE: When making necessary air pressure adjustments, refer to the air pressure gauge located at the front of the delivery head to check the approximate amount of air pressure delivered to the handpiece. axcs Magellan CMU 31

33 Section V Operation Flush System It is recommended that the tubing of each handpiece used be flushed after each patient. 1. Hold the handpiece tubing over a sink, cuspidor or open vacuum line. axcs Magellan CMU 2. Slide the ferrule down the tubing to expose the metering block. 3. Using the screw adjustment tool (provided in the accessories package), adjust air, water and spray by turning the appropriate screw counterclockwise to increase volume, or clockwise to decrease volume. Euro-Style Flush Toggle 2. While facing the front of unit, move the FLUSH toggle located at the rear of the delivery head to the left, and hold it there for 20 seconds. NOTE: Flushing the water line in the handpiece can be done by operating the FLUSH valve while either fully depressing or not depressing the foot control. Syringe The syringe is designed to deliver air or water, or a mixture of air and water, as required. To deliver water only, press the button on the syringe marked with a water drop symbol. For air only, press the button on the syringe with no marking. To get a spray mixture of air and water, press both buttons simultaneously. NOTE: Air and water flows are factory preset. For Euro-Style Only If an air or water flow adjustment is wanted, use the following procedure: 1. Grasp the syringe valve body assembly and unscrew the ferrule by turning counterclockwise. Ferrule WET/DRY Toggle Valve Disc Adjustment Screws Foot Control Valve Body 4. Grasp the syringe valve body assembly and slide the ferrule over the metering block. 5. Hand tighten to the valve body. The speed of the handpiece is controlled by depressing the disc located on the foot control. A light pressure on the foot control disc causes a slow speed. Full pressure on the disc causes the handpiece to operate at full speed. NOTE: The coolant water spray ON/OFF function is also controlled by using the toggle valve located on the foot control as described above. 35 Section VI Care Cleaning The axcs Magellan unit should be cleaned as follows: Wipe frequently with a damp, lint-free cloth. Use a mild detergent to clean stains. CAUTION Do not use abrasive cleaning agents. At the end of the day, turn the master ON/ OFF valve to the OFF position and clean the instrumentation. Each morning, turn the master valve ON and check the air and water system for proper operation using the three-way syringe. NOTE: It is recommended that puncture-resistant nitrile gloves be worn for the following procedures: High-Volume Evacuator (HVE) With the high-volume evacuator vacuum valve in the OFF position, disconnect the valve. Using a brush, clean the interior of the valve under a faucet, and rinse thoroughly. Saliva Ejector Disconnect the saliva ejector valve from the tubing and repeat the procedure described for the HVE. Solids Collector To clean the solids collector, located at the instrument end of the assistant's arm, do the following: 1. Close the vacuum ON/OFF valve. 2. Push the lever on the saliva ejector downward to equalize pressure. 3. Remove the lid by lifting it straight up. 4. Grasp the stem on the basket and lift the basket straight up. 5. Empty debris and wash out the basket with axcs Magellan CMU warm water, then replace the basket and lid. 6. Open the vacuum ON/OFF valve. Clean Water System Empty the bottle at the end of each day. Then before the day's first procedure, fill it with fresh clean water. NOTICE Cleaning brushes and Vac-U-Ez solution can be ordered through DentalEZ dealers. Disinfecting NOTE: After cleaning the high-volume evacuator, saliva ejector and solids collector, evacuate two cups of Vac-U-Ez cleaning solution (one cup each) through the high-volume evacuator and saliva ejector to sanitize the system. CAUTION Avoid using disinfectants in spray containers because they may cause premature staining, discoloration and/or damage to the unit. Liquid disinfectants are recommended for use on all axcs Magellan external surfaces and should be applied using a soft, clean cloth. CAUTION Do not use disinfectants that contain any of the following: Iodophors Glutaraldehydes Phenols Sodium Hypochlorites Use extreme caution when selecting the proper chemical disinfectant for the axcs Magellan CMU. NOTE: *Cavicide is the recommended disinfectant for use on all external surfaces. *Cavicide is a trademark of Micro Aseptic Products, Inc. CAUTION Be sure not to exceed a temperature of 275º F. 34 Installation, Operation and Care Manual
