Turn the air pressure adjustment screw on the control valve of the appropriate handpiece (counterclockwise to Air Pressure Adjustment Screws increase pressure, clockwise to decrease pressure) until the hand-piece manufacturer's correct specification registers on the pressure gauge. 3. Repeat a. through e. in Step 2 to set the pressure for each handpiece. NOTE: If a low-speed handpiece is required, slide the coolant air and water restrictor over the lines on the appropriate control valve. Chipblower If the handpiece utilizes coolant air, a burst of air should be delivered to the handpiece when the chip air valve on the foot control is depressed. Galaxy Syringe Wall/Cabinet Unit If the unit is equipped with a syringe, first depress the air button and then the water button to test the flow. Electric Handpiece (Optional) NOTE: For information regarding the testing of either the Titan or NuTorque electric handpiece refer to the instructions included with the electric handpiece. Fiber Optics (Optional) Follow the test procedures outlined in the instructions included in each fiber optic handpiece package. NOTICE After all final testing is complete, install the USC cover using four #10 screws. 18 Installation, Operation and Care Manual

20 Section V Operation WARNING To prevent possible injury because of accidental operation, do not leave young children unattended. Delivery System Some of the Galaxy unit design features: Operation of three handpieces and a syringe. Drive air and coolant water may be adjusted individually for each handpiece. An automatic cut-off switch in each handpiece holder section disables operation for that position. Foot control toggle valve allows wet or dry cutting. Master switch turns entire unit ON and OFF. Master Switch Controls The master toggle switch, located at the left underside of the delivery unit, controls the ON/OFF function of air, water and electricity to the entire CAUTION VERY IMPORTANT: At the end of each work day and anytime the unit is unattended, make sure the master control switch is in the OFF position. Automatic Cut Off Master Switch unit. While facing the front of the unit, flip the toggle switch toward the front to turn ON the unit. An automatic cut off can be demonstrated by placing tubing in the instrument hanger and disabling operation for that position. Oil Collector/Filter An oil collector/filter is designed to collect oil from the handpiece exhaust air. 21 Section V Operation Galaxy Wall/Cabinet Unit Handpiece Coolant Water Adjustment Coolant water spray to all the handpieces can be turned ON or OFF using the toggle switch located on the foot control. The coolant spray volume is individually regulated for each handpiece by using the coolant water adjustment valves located on the underside of the delivery head. While operating a handpiece, turn the coolant water adjustment valve counterclockwise to increase the volume of coolant water spray. To decrease volume, turn the valve clockwise. Air Pressure Adjustment Screws Coolant Air Adjustment Valve Coolant Water Adjustment Valves NOTE: These procedures must be done while: The master switch is in the ON position, The handpiece is out of its holder and The foot control is fully depressed. NOTE: When making necessary air pressure adjustments, refer to the air pressure gauge located at the front of the delivery head to check the approximate amount of air pressure delivered to the handpiece. Flush System It is recommended that the tubing of each handpiece used be flushed after each patient. 1. Hold the handpiece tubing over a sink, cuspidor or open vacuum line. 2. While facing the front of unit, move the FLUSH valve toggle located at the right side of the delivery head to the rear of the head and hold it there for 20 seconds. Flush Valve Toggle Coolant Air Adjustment The coolant air volume for all handpieces is regulated by using the coolant air adjustment valve found on the underside of the delivery head. While operating a handpiece, turn the coolant air adjustment valve counterclockwise to increase the volume of coolant water spray. To decrease volume, turn the valve clockwise. Air Pressure Air pressure to each handpiece can be adjusted to the manufacturer's specifications by following the air pressure instructions in Section IV Testing under the heading Air Pressure on Page 18. NOTE: Flushing the water line in the handpiece can be done by operating the FLUSH valve toggle while either fully depressing or not depressing the foot control. Syringe The syringe is designed to deliver air or water, or a mixture of air and water, as required. To deliver water only, press the button on the syringe marked with a water drop symbol. For air only, press the button on the syringe with no marking. To get a spray mixture of air and water, press both buttons simultaneously. NOTE: Air and water flows are factory preset. 20 Installation, Operation and Care Manual

22 Section V Operation Foot Control The speed of the handpiece is controlled by depressing the disk located on the foot control. A light pressure on the foot control disk causes a slow speed. Full pressure on the disk causes the handpiece to operate at full speed. WET/DRY Toggle Valve Disk Chipblower NOTE: The coolant water spray ON/OFF function is also controlled by using the toggle valve on the foot control as described above. Chipblower If the handpiece utilizes coolant air, the chipblower is used to blow debris away from the cutting site by creating an air blast through the handpiece without causing the burr to rotate. To operate the chip blower, depress and hold down the valve on the upper right of the foot control. Clean Water System 1. Flip the master switch to the ON position. 2. If optional city water is in use, flip the city/bottle toggle from city to bottle water supply setting. 3. Flip the bottle on/off toggle on the clean water system to the ON position. 4. Make sure water bottle pressure is at 40 psi. 5. To fill the water bottle, flip the bottle on/ off toggle to the OFF positon, then unscrew the water bottle from the assembly and fill with clean water. Then reinstall the bottle. Fiber Optics (Optional) The fiber optics control is automatically activated by operating the handpiece using the foot control. NOTE: When the foot control is released, the fiber optics light will stay on for approximately ten seconds to allow inspection of the cutting site. Electric Handpiece (Optional) Titan Electric RPM Speed Indicator Readout GALAXY Touchpad Overlay RPM Speed Adjustment Buttons Low-Range Speed LED Indicator RPM Speed Range Selector Button Mid-Range Speed LED Indicator Reverse Button High-Range Speed LED Indicator The touchpad overlay on the front of the delivery head controls the operation of the electric handpiece. Press the RPM speed range selector button to choose a low, mid or high range speed setting. Three LED indicators located left of the RPM speed range selector button allow the user to see what speed setting range has been selected. To fine tune the RPM speed, press the up (+) or down (-) speed adjustment buttons left of the LED indicators. The speed will show in the RPM speed indicator readout located left of the up/down buttons. The speed indicator will show a two digit number. Multiply this number by the scale factor next to the lit speed indicator LED to determine the actual RPM speed of the handpiece. To reverse the action of the electric handpiece, press the reverse button located right of the RPM speed range selector button. Galaxy Wall/Cabinet Unit 21

23 Section VI Care Cleaning The Galaxy DWM/DCM should be cleaned as follows: Wipe frequently with a damp, lint-free cloth. Use a mild detergent to clean stains. CAUTION Do not use abrasive cleaning agents. At the end of the day, turn the master ON/ OFF valve to the OFF position and clean the instrumentation. Each morning, turn the master valve ON and check the air and water system for proper operation using the three-way syringe. NOTICE Cleaning brushes can be ordered through DentalEZ dealers. Galaxy Disinfecting Wall/Cabinet Unit Liquid disinfectants are recommended for use on all Galaxy DWM/DCM external surfaces and should be applied using a soft, clean cloth. CAUTION Avoid using disinfectants in spray containers because they may cause premature staining, discoloration and/or damage to the Galaxy DWM/DCM.
