1 OBJECTIVES This document describes GV65, a tracking device manufactured by Queclink. The GV65 from Queclink is an entry-level version. The device offers all the necessary functions for basic vehicle tracking and is mainly targeted at companies wishing to have access only to Frotcom s Basic Services listed below: Record sending interval Available options are 30 sec 20 min, 1 min 20 min, 5 min 20 min and Adaptive tracking; Sleep mode configuration; Digital inputs - Door sensor, Panic button and Fuel Filler Security; Analog inputs - Temperature sensor and Analog fuel sensor; 1-Wire interface 1-wire Temperature sensor and Ibutton driver identification; Vehicle immobilization; Buzzer notifications. This device does not support advanced features, such as connection to Garmin navigators and CANBus data reading. Although, Queclink has developed a special firmware version for Frotcom (F1.0.0 or higher), available for the latest GV65 hardware version (H49), which provides some of the advanced features, such as Eco-Driving and 2 seconds tracking. There are two GV65 hardware versions currently in use, the previous GV65 version designed as H33 in the Intranet, and the latest version, named GV65N, designed as H49 in the Intranet. There is no difference in the device packaging to distinct them. 3

2.3 INSTALLING THE SIM CARD First, you need to open the case by inserting the triangular-pry-opener into the gap on both sides of the case as shown below, and push the opener up until the case is unsnapped. Once opened, slide the SIM holder to the right to open it. Insert the SIM card into the holder as shown below. Note the contacts and notch position. Close the SIM card holder. Avoid touching any part of the main board with your tools or your fingers, because static electricity can damage the device. Finally, to close the case, place the cover in position as shown in the figure below and gently press it until it snaps. 5

3 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS This guide indicates the procedures that must be followed to successfully install and test a device in a vehicle. 3.1 INSIDE THE BOX The package contains the following items: Queclink GV65 tracking device; Cable (10 colored wires with a 2x10 socket). 3.2 INSTALLATION Start by finding a good place to mount the GPS antenna. If using the external antenna it should be placed with the magnetic side down. For permanent installations, it is recommended to use the double side sticker to make sure the antenna is safely secured. The external antenna, or the device when the internal antenna is used, must be placed at least 10 cm away from any electromagnetic sources such as all types of radios, electric motors and speakers. To guarantee good GPS coverage, there should be no metal parts blocking signals from GPS satellites. Choose a good location for the device. The fuse box is usually the best place because usually there is enough space in the surroundings and all necessary wires (permanent power, ignition and ground) are often available also. Device should be solidly fixed to the vehicle, for example using double side sticker. Avoid placing the device close to heat sources or in any circumstance subject to temperatures outside the temperature range described in section 2.1. Identify the connection points in the vehicle and prepare the wiring by inserting a 2A fast blow fuse 1 on the power wire (red). This fuse is intended to protect the vehicle s electric system in case there is a problem on the device or wiring. For best protection, fuse should be close to the point in the vehicle where the power wire will be connected. Wiring should follow this sequence: 1) First connect the external GPS antenna (optional); 2) Then connect the black wire (ground) to vehicle ground; 3) Connect the red wire (power) to permanent power through a fast blow 2A fuse 1 ; 4) Finally connect the white wire to the ignition wire (after contact). Note: it is strongly recommended that a fuse is used in the connection to permanent power. This fuse will protect the vehicle installation in case of a catastrophic failure in device that would cause short-circuit. 1 Normally the Queclink wiring cable already contains a fuse, it is not required to insert another one 6

3.3 VERIFICATION Once powered up, the device will start immediately and you will see the PWR LED lighting up and the GPS LED blinking. The LEDs location is in the top of the cover as shown in the image. The LEDs indication has the following states: CEL Fast flashing Slow flashing ON Searching GSM GSM network registered SIM needs pin code GPS OFF Slow flashing Fast flashing ON GPS rec. is powered OFF No GPS data or error Searching GPS GPS fixed PWR OFF ON Device powered off Device powered on You can consider the installation as correct and the device as working properly when you see CEL LED blinking slowly, the GPS LED always ON and the PWR LED always ON or blinking fast. 7

4 DEVICE FEATURES - CONFIGURATION AND SCHEMATICS This section describes all features that can be activated on the device through the Device Configuration on Frotcom s Intranet. 4.1 EUROPE VICINITY ROAMING When using Frotcom International SIM cards, this option allows you to select list of countries for vicinity roaming. Please check Frotcom Intranet user manual for more details. 4.2 RECORD SENDING INTERVAL All options available for other devices are also valid for the GV65, including Adaptive tracking and Detailed Tracking. Please check the Frotcom Intranet Manual for more details. Note that the Detailed Tracking is only available for firmware version F1.0.0 or higher and hardware version H OVERVOLTAGE PROTECTION DEVICE Overvoltage is a common problem in automotive DC circuits. An overvoltage fault can quickly escalate into the loss, or severe damage, of the tracking device and/or accessories. The OP-1 is a simple device with 3 color wires on each side to connect power, ground and ignition. It protects Frotcom devices from badly regulated alternators. Power input is protected against reverse polarity. Ignition input is electrically isolated. It accepts an input voltage from approximately 9V to 60V and convert it to 12V on the output. It also tolerates voltage spikes of up to 100V. Follow this schematic to connect the OP-1 to GV65: Red (1) Black (2) White (9) Note that any other accessory connected to GV65 should be powered by the OP-1 output. 8

4.4 IGNITION MODE By defaut, the ignition field in Frotcom corresponds to the real ignition, connected to the white wire (Ignition input). But, when it is not possible to reach the real ignition wire, or if preferable to use other kind of ignition simulation, it could be changed under the Ignition mode section MOTION SENSOR When there s no possibility to have the physical connection to ignition, it could be simulated using the internal motion sensor. To enable the simulated ignition, go to Device Configuration and select the Ignition mode Motion Sensor: When it is selected, the ignition will be considered ON as soon as the device detects movement, and OFF if it doesn t detect movement for 2 minutes. Important note: The ignition wire (WHITE) must be connected to ground GPS Since firmware version F1.0.0 (for hardware version H49), another ignition mode became available, which is the GPS. When this mode is selected, the ignition will be considered ON as soon as the speed raises 10 km/h, and OFF when the speed is lower than 10 km/h for 2 consecutive minutes. Note that while device is sleeping the GPS receiver is turned off, so the device is not able to wake up if the Ignition mode is GPS, please consider to use other Ignition mode when sleep mode is enabled. 9

4.5 INPUTS/OUTPUTS Queclink GV65 has two digital inputs, one analog input and two digital outputs. All of them work in different pins, which mean that it is possible, for example, to have two door sensors and two temperature sensors working simultaneously, and still use features that require a digital output such as the driver identification that requires a digital output for the buzzer DIGITAL INPUTS Digital inputs 1 and 2 are available on wires orange and orange-black, pins 8 and 7, respectively. As with other devices, a digital input can be used as a door sensor or a generic digital input to connect for example a panic button. Digital inputs in Queclink GV65 are active low, meaning that the input is considered active when the wire is connected to ground. Please note that this is the opposite of Falcom devices, where inputs are active when you connect the wire to 12 or 24V. Active low inputs have two advantages in the installation. On one end, you can deploy only one wire and use the vehicle chassis ground to close the connection. On the other end, you don t have to run a power wire to the sensor. This was often a source of problems because the isolation could get worn on edges due to vehicle movement, causing short-circuits between power and ground on the chassis DOS-1 DOOR SENSOR Door sensor is a magnetic switch that connects the input to ground when the door is closed (when the magnet is close to the magnetic switch). When the door opens just enough for the magnetic field to stop reaching the switch, the contact is opened and the Queclink GV65 will report to Frotcom the door has opened. Note that the Queclink devices only report immediately if there is a valid GPS fix. Otherwise, the report will be delayed until a GPS fix has been obtained or it is time to send a period record. In any case, the event timestamp corresponds to the moment the digital input changed state. If the wire going to the sensor is cut, Queclink GV65 will also consider the door has opened, so sensor tampering is also detected. To configure a door sensor, go to Inputs mapping and select the digital input you want to use each sensor instance in Frotcom (DOOR1, DOOR2 or DOOR3): 10

You can also define the name that Frotcom should present instead of DOORn. The option Invert allows you to use door sensors that have an active input when the door is open. For DOS-1, please keep the option OFF because DOS-1 is active when the door is closed. Follow this schematic to connect the sensor to GV65: Red (1) Black (2) White (9) Orange (8) or Orange-Black (7) PB-1 PANIC BUTTON Panic button is a button that activates the digital input by connecting it to ground. To configure a panic button, go to Input mapping and select the digital input you want to use in sensor DIN1: Follow this schematic to connect the panic button to GV65: 12/24V GND Ignition Red (11) (1) Black (12) (2) White (15) (9) Orange (16) (8) or Green Orange-Black (5) (7) Panic button 11

FUEL FILLER SECURITY This accessory replaces the fuel tank lid and provides two features: 1) a strainer prevents fuel siphoning from the tank; 2) at the same time, an RFID sensor in the lid detects if it was open. The in-cab signaling device features an LED and a buzzer to warn the driver. If ignition is ON, the LED lights up when the tank lid is opened, and goes out when it is closed again. If ignition is OFF, the buzzer will also sound while the lid is open. In this case, when the lid is closed again, the LED stays blinking until the ignition is switched ON. This way, the driver will be warned that the lid was opened while he was away from the truck. If the cable coming from the lid sensor is cut, the sensor will work as if the lid was opened to provide tamper detection. In Frotcom, Fuel filler security is interpreted as a door sensor. To configure it, go to Inputs mapping and select the digital input you want to use and the corresponding sensor instance in Frotcom (DOOR1, DOOR2 or DOOR3): Follow this schematic to connect the Fuel filler security and in-cab signaling device to GV65: 12/24V GND Ignition Red (11) (1) Black (12) (2) White (15) (9) Orange (16) (8) or Green Orange-Black (5) (7) Red Black Grey Leave open Brown Yellow In-cab signaling device Red Blue Black White Green * For one tank installation, connect grey from sensor to both white and green. For two tanks installation, connect grey from one sensor to white and grey from the second sensor to green. 12

MEASURING AN ACTIVE HIGH SIGNAL As explained earlier, digital inputs in GV65 are active low. If you need to measure a signal that is active high, you must invert it using a regular automotive relay. The relay will act as a controlled switch that will connect the digital input on GV65 to ground when the coil is energized. Please make sure that you select the appropriate relay: coil voltage must match the voltage on the signal you want to measure. Also, please make sure this signal is strong enough to energize the relay coil. Contact Frotcom International if in doubt. 12/24V GND Ignition Red (11) (1) Black (12) (2) White (15) (9) Orange (16) (8) or Green Orange-Black (5) (7) Relay Active high signal 13

4.5.2 ANALOG INPUTS Analog input is available on the green wire, pins 4. This can be used to connect to any device that outputs a voltage proportional to the measured variable, such as temperature or fuel level sensors TS-1 TEMPERATURE SENSOR TS-1 sensor provides an analog output with voltage varying proportionally to the temperature. It has to be connected to 12/24V and ground to power the electronics and the output must be connected to the GV65 analog input. To configure it, go to Inputs mapping and select the analog input you want to use for each sensor instance in Frotcom (TP1, TP2 or TP3). You also have to tell Frotcom how to convert the measured voltage to temperature (Celsius degrees). To do that, open folder the corresponding sensor and select TS1 in the Quick settings dropdown: After installation, make sure Frotcom is showing the correct temperature in the Device Diagnostics page. If Frotcom shows -27ºC, it means that the sensor is not powered or its output is not properly connected to Frotcom. You can check if the sensor is working correctly by measuring the voltage in the output. It should read around 5.10V for 15ºC, 5.75V for 20ºC and 6.40V for 25ºC. Follow this schematic to connect the Temperature sensor to GV65: 12/24V GND Ignition TS1 Red (11) (1) Black (12) (2) White (15) (9) Brown Green (10) (4) or Yellow (20) * Please verify connector position. Wrong wiring will damage the sensor. In doubt, please contact Frotcom International. 14

FILTER ON ANALOG INPUT If you want to connect an analog input of GV65 to the vehicle s fuel level sensor fitted on factory, you will note that there are significant oscillations on the measured values. Also, if the ignition is switched off, the sensor loses power, making GV65 read completely wrong values. To overcome those problems, you can select an optional filter on the analog input, as shown in this image: When this filter is enabled, the device will get the fuel level average from the last 5 minutes instead of the instant value, except when a refuel is detected, in that situation the final value is sent. In the first 3 minutes with ignition on, the value does not change, to minimize the chance of signal deviations caused by the current drawn by the engine starter. This feature is only available since firmware version F1.0.0 (for hardware version H49). Note that this filter is not exactly the same than the other devices like C4Max or GV300, the differences are: If ignition is off, GV65 keeps sending the fuel level variations while the value sent to Frotcom does not change at all for C4Max; The filter does not act when a refuel is detected in GV DIGITAL OUTPUTS For features that require a digital output, on the GV65 it is possible to select which one to use. Please find more details in the sections dedicated to those features: Driver ID, Buzzer Notifications and Immobilizer. 15

4.6 IBP-1 IBUTTON DRIVER IDENTIFICATION On GV65, there is currently only one alternative solution for driver identification which is by ibutton. When configuring this feature, you have to select the following parameters: Reader type: ibutton Buzzer: Digital output pin where buzzer is connected Use immobilizer: A new feature which requires the Immobilizer feature enabled. If this is checked the vehicle will be blocked until the driver be identified. The identification is valid just for the next trip, which means that when the ignition turns off for more than 2 minutes the identification is erased and the vehicle blocked. Important note: this feature isn t compatible with the ignition mode Motion Sensor. For old firmware versions the buzzer is only used to give feedback that the ibutton was read, no warning will be played when the ignition turns ON like for the other devices. This warning is only available since firmware version F Please see for more details. Each ibutton has a unique identification that must be associated to the corresponding driver in Frotcom. This ID is engraved on the top face of the ibutton, as shown on the image to the right. In this example, the ID is 7D000002CFCDCA14. Please note the fact that 7D and 14, in the upper line, correspond to the beginning and tail of the ID, respectively. On the Intranet, Device Diagnostics page, you are also able to get the list of the last identifications read by a GV65. Use the button Last RFIDs. 16

4.6.1 DRIVER WARNING Since firmware version F1.0.0 (for hardware version H49) some more options became available for GV65, providing a buzzer warning to remember the Driver to insert the ibutton probe. Warn during: The amount of time for which the buzzer will sound if ignition is switched on without identification; Warning Type: o o 0 Normal (default): the No driver ID warning consists of a cyclic buzzer sound with 1 second ON and 1 second OFF; 1 Intermittent: the No driver ID warning consists of a buzzer sound with 500 milliseconds length, every 10 seconds; Time to clear ID: the time, in minutes, after which the driver identification memory is cleared, so that it is requested again when the ignition is turned ON; o o The ID is stored in flash memory to guarantee it isn t lost after a reset; Until it is cleared, Tracking devices send the ID to the server whenever the ignition turns ON, even when a new ID is not requested to the driver, so that Frotcom does not trigger the Unidentified driver alarm; Since (Last ID Ignition Off): specifies if the Time to clear ID counts since the last driver identification or since the last time ignition was turned off (note that in this case, if the ignition is turned on again, the timer will be reset and will restart counting when ignition is switched off again). Note that the Use immobilizer behaviour also changes with this options: the immobilizer will block the vehicle automatically after Time to clear ID has elapsed. You also need to activate Immobilizer. You should not check the option Ignore ignition to avoid the vehicle being blocked while the vehicle is still moving, which is extremely dangerous. Please refer to the memo Immobilizer controlled by Driver ID for more information regarding this feature. 18

4.7 IMMOBILIZER Immobilizer users a digital output from GV65 to control a relay that will enable or not the engine starter. To configure GV65 for Immobilizer use the following option on the Intranet: You must define the password (lower case letters and digits) and the digital output to which you will connect the relay. The option Ignore ignition is automatically checked because it s not possible to wait for the ignition turns off to change the output state due to the device limitations. Note also that it is not possible to activate or deactivate the immobilizer using SMS messages. It has to be done in Frotcom user interface. Please check the wiring diagram below. 12/24V GND Ignition Red (1) (11) Black (12) (2) White (15) (9) Pulple Blue (5) (1) or or Yellow Blue (2) (3) a 30 Immobilizer Relay ATTENTION: Wires in red must support Starter current. 21 4.8 SLEEP ON IGNITION OFF There is a sleep mode available for GV65, by checking the option Sleep on Ignition OFF, useful to save the vehicle battery. To activate Sleep on ignition off, select the following option in the Intranet: Wake up interval is the approximate duration of the low power period. After this period, device will wake up automatically to send a new position record, and goes back to sleep again. The sleep mode for this device doesn t allow us to configure the time to enter in sleep, which means that when this is enabled the device will always enter in sleep after ignition be turned off. The GV65 does not turns off its internal processor when sleeping as we are used to see, as its consumption is too low, it just turns off the GPS receiver, which is who needs more power to work. This means that the device features are still working when the device is sleeping, such as Immobilizer, Driver ID, Speed Limiter and Privacy Button. After ignition be turned off, it will enter in sleep mode, but the device will still connected to the server until the connection be lost (by bad coverage or by the 60 minutes timeout). The connection to the server is reestablish in the next record sent, after the Wake up interval. When the connection is establish the user is still able to send Buzzer Notifications and activate or deactivate the immobilizer, but these features are no longer available after the connection be lost. The device is still reachable via SMS when in sleep mode. The device consumption during normal operation is about 30 ma, and about 3 ma in sleep mode. 20

4.9 BUZZER NOTIFICATIONS Buzzer notifications is a feature that allows users to nudge the driver and also to notify the driver when an alarm has been detected by Frotcom. To activate this feature, use the following options on the Intranet: The following diagram shows how to connect the buzzer to the digital output: 12/24V GND Ignition Red (1) (11) Black (2) (12) White (15) (9) Blue Purple (5) (1) or or Yellow Blue (2) (3) Red (+) Black (-) Note: GV65 does not allow to reproduce patterns with multiple timings, by other words, it is not possible to mix long and short bips in the same pattern. For that reason, the pattern 7 (long-long-short) won t be reproduced in GV65, the pattern 5 (long-long-long) will be reproduced instead, and the patterns 8 (shortshort-long) and 10 (short-long-short) won t be reproduced too, the pattern 6 (short-short-short) will be reproduced instead. In GV65 it isn t also possible to repeat the pattern, so the pattern will be reproduced just once. Note: Pattern 9 (long-short-long) has a different behavior in GV65, it will activate the buzzer for 25 seconds once. 21

WIRE TEMPERATURE SENSORS With GV65, you can use sensors DS18B20 from Dallas (now Maxim) to read temperatures. Up to three sensors can be connected to the 1-wire interface. To activate this option, enable the 1-Wire Temperature Sensors and indicate the ID of each sensor: And select the sensors for each Frotcom sensor instance (TP1, TP2 or TP3) in Inputs mapping: You can also type auto (lower case, without quotations). In that case, the ID will be defined automatically when the device sends the next temperature values. Later on, you may switch the IDs to have the right correspondence between physical sensors and the placeholder in Frotcom. Frotcom is using only 3 digits of the 1-wire ID. Because of that, it is possible that several 1-Wire Temperature sensors have the same ID. Please make sure you do not have sensors with the same ID in the same vehicle. Please note that even with three temperature sensors connected to 1-wire, ibutton can still be used for driver identification. ATTENTION: Any positive voltage in the 1-wire input pin (White-Black pin 6) could permanently damage the 1-wire interface or the sensors connected. The connections must be prepared, before the configuration be sent, like depicted in the picture below (example for two temperature sensors): 22

Red (1) Black (2) White (9) White-Black (6) Purple (10) The sensors data wire color may vary between yellow and blue 23

4.11 PRIVACY BUTTON The Privacy button feature allows the driver to perform a trip in privacy mode. When the Privacy button feature is enabled in a device, the driver is able to press a button at the beginning of a trip to change to privacy mode. The privacy mode will be kept during the entire trip and until the ignition is switched on again for the following trip. To activate this feature, select the following options on the Intranet: You must select the digital input where the button is connected and also the digital output where the buzzer is connected. The connections must be prepared as shown in this schematic: 24

4.12 SPEED LIMITER GV65 can do the job of a vehicle speed limiter. It considers the speed measured by the GPS receiver and activates a relay that cuts the power going to the vehicle s fuel pump when the speed exceeds the specified threshold. When speed goes back to normal, the relay is deactivated, enabling power to arrive again to the fuel pump. To activate this feature, select the following options in the Intranet: Maximum speed is the speed above which the fuel pump relay is activated. Relay output parameter defines to which digital output you have connected the relay that cuts the fuel pump power. The following diagram shows how to prepare the connections of the device for the speed limiting effect: Red (1) Black (2) White (9) Blue (5) or Yellow (3) 25

4.13 ECO-DRIVING ECO-Driving is also possible on GV65 devices with firmware version F1.0.0 or higher (for hardware version H49). It uses the 3D accelerometer and the GPS to detect harsh braking and accelerations. For Eco-driving to work correctly, the position of the device relative to the vehicle must be absolutely stable. Please make sure that the device is firmly secured relatively to the vehicle s body, to make sure the angles cannot change due to vehicle movement. It is also possible to use a buzzer connected to a digital output to warn the driver when a harsh braking or acceleration is detected. Select the digital output in Shared resources > Buzzer and configure the Eco-driving: The following diagram shows how to connect the buzzer to the digital output: 12/24V GND Ignition Red (1) (11) Black (2) (12) White (15) (9) Blue Purple (5) (1) or or Yellow Blue (2) (3) Red (+) Black (-) 26
