2 Page 1 STBKVTS ECQMOPLATE 'Ef SERIES GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Stokvis Econoplate 'E' series of packaged plate heat exchanger is available in three ranges covering a total of some 60 units with outputs ran@ng from 45Kw to 1071 Mw when fed with primary water at 82OC. The maximum primary temperature is 110~~. The Econoplate 'E' series units are designed to provide hot water instantaneously, without the need for storage, up to their maximum rated output. All of the units are built around an epoxy coated chassis containing the heat exchanger. This heat exchanger is constructed from a number of gaaketted stainless steel plates which can be readily added to, enabling the output capacity of an existirlg unit to be increased.. Plate Heat Exchangers have low water content and low thermal interia making them ideal for use in systems with rapidly changing heat outputs. The Econoplate 'E' series units are supplied with fast acting 4 port motorised control valves fitted to the pr*imary circuit. This valve is rrlodulated by a purpose built PIT) controller which senses the secondary water temperature and opens or closes the 4 port valve in response. The primary water is constantly circulated around the unit by an integral pump which has been matched to the beat exchanger with an allowance for pipework losses also included, Systems which utilise an existing primary feed pump do not require the installation of an additional bypass as with 3 port valves, this is due to the 4th port of the valve acting as the bypass under nollow load situations. A secondary hot water service retu~n pump and non return valve can also be supplied fitted and wired to the unit as an option. In addition to the PlD controller the control panel on the 'E' series plate beat exchanger also courtains all functional indicator lamps,a control fuse, high temperature alarm, volt free terminals and lockout, as well as low temperature indication, all control adj~astments and on optional time eloek for either 2 temperature of opepation, or duplex pump duty sharing. These last two functions can also be performed by a remote changeover switch or, by a BMS system. On the EJB and ESC models primary pump overxoads are also included as standard with auto changeover on units fitted with duplex primary pumps and pump fault indication as options. The Econoplate units are fully assembled and factory wired for ease of installation leaving only the electrical supply and primaq a,nd secondary water circuits to be connected an site.

3 Page 2 INSTALLATION The cold water feed connection is made into the bottom horizontal bronze connection on the rear of the Econoplate. The cold water supply may be either from the cold water storage tank, which can itself be boosted if required, Alternatively, the unit may be eonl~ected directly to the mains water s~rpply as this product is a Water Byelaws Scheme Approved product. To enable connection to the mains, a kit of components required by part G3 of the approved document of the Building Reg.ulations 1983 and complying with any Installation Requirements for byelaw compliance, can be provided to complete the package. The hot water service flow connection is from the top horizontal bronze connection again on the rear of the Econuplate. It can be identified by noting the electrical temperature probe fitted into it, A secondary circulation either locally or around the installation must be maintained at all times. For this purpose a connection is provided in the bronze cold water feed casting, or alternatively if the optional secondary recirculation pump (complete with non - return valve) is provided then the connection is made into the top connection of the pump. Primary connections are made into the 4 port valve, the vertical facing connection is the inlet (boiler flow) and the horizontal connection is the outlet (boiler returlz). Both primary connections should be made using unions to enable servicing of the 4 port valve after installation, To ensure correct operation, water at the design flow temperature should be available to the plate beat exchanger at all times, a primary flow should therefore be maintained through boiler equipment at all times. The reasons for this are that the plate heat exchanger itself, under no load conditions does not flow water through the boiler and consequently when a demand occurs the boiler would be unable to respond fast enougl~ to prevent temperatures dropping. The 'typical installation schematic' shows an ideal example. LED displays Ah, At the same time the primary pump is turned off and the eovltrol valve closed. This alarm can either be a manual o~ automatic reset dependent upon the function selected. LOW TEMPERATURE ALARM - If the temperature measured by the sensor falls by more than 12O@ below the set operating temperature a red alarm lamp is illuminated and the LED displays Ab.
