Preparations. Make a note of the radio keycode. Make a note of the preset radio stations. Disconnect the battery negative lead. µ 2. Remove the right-hand front wheel. 1 Slacken the bolt of the right-hand driveshaft stub.

2 2 Loosen the wheel bolts. Raise the vehicle. µ 3. Detach the engine undershield (four bolts, two nuts) (right-hand side shown). µ 4. Disconnect the right-hand wheel suspension. 1 Detach the stabiliser bar link rod from the suspension strut. 2 Release the brake hose and the ABS sensor lead from the bracket. 3 Disconnect the transverse arm ball joint from the spindle carrier (two bolts). µ 5. Unscrew the bolt with the washer from the driveshaft stub.

3 The constant velocity joint nearest the wheel must not be bent at more than 50º. µ 6. Pull the spindle carrier off the front driveshaft and tie up the driveshaft. For vehicles with VXT 75 manual transmission only. Escaping oil: Close off the transmission with auxiliary plugs. µ 7. Remove the front driveshaft. Detach the front driveshaft centre bearing from the cylinder block bracket. Pull out the front driveshaft. Remove the snap ring.

4 For vehicles with 2,0i DOHC engines and AG4 automatic transmission. Escaping oil: Close off the transmission with auxiliary plugs. µ 8. Remove the front driveshaft. Remove the bracket from the cylinder block. Pull out the front driveshaft. Remove the snap ring. For vehicles with 2,8i CD V6 engines and AG4 automatic transmission. Escaping oil: Close off the transmission with auxiliary plugs. µ 9. Remove the front driveshaft. Remove the bracket from the cylinder block. Pull out the front driveshaft. Remove the snap ring.

5 For vehicles with AG4 automatic transmission and 4x4 only. Screw two wheel bolts into the wheel hub and use a tyre lever to stop the assembly from turning. µ 10. Remove the front driveshaft (six bolts). Install For vehicles with VXT 75 manual transmission only. µ 11. Install the front driveshaft using a new snap ring. Do not damage the oil seal when guiding in the front driveshaft. Insert the front driveshaft and attach the driveshaft centre bearing to the cylinder block.

6 For vehicles with 2,0i DOHC engines and AG4 automatic transmission only. µ 12. Install the front driveshaft using a new snap ring. Do not damage the oil seal when guiding in the front driveshaft. Insert the front driveshaft. Bolt the centre bearing bracket onto the cylinder block. For vehicles with 2,8i CD V6 engines and AG4 automatic transmission only. µ 13. Install the front driveshaft using a new snap ring. Do not damage the oil seal when guiding in the front driveshaft. Insert the front driveshaft. Bolt the centre bearing bracket onto the cylinder block.

7 For vehicles with AG4 automatic transmission and 4x4 only. Use a tyre lever on the wheel hub to stop the assembly from turning. µ 14. Install the front driveshaft (six bolts). Remove the wheel bolts from the wheel hub. µ 15. Slide the spindle carrier onto the front driveshaft.

8 µ 16. Put the washer in place and screw the bolt into the driveshaft stub. µ 17. Attach the right-hand wheel suspension. 1 Connect the transverse arm ball joint to the spindle carrier (two bolts). 2 Connect the stabiliser link rod to the suspension strut. 3 Push the brake hose and the ABS sensor lead onto the bracket. For vehicles with VXT 75 manual transmission. The filling level is to the bottom edge of the filler hole. µ 18. Check the transmission fluid level in the manual transmission and correct as necessary (Ford Specification ESDM-2C186-A). Tighten the filler plug.

9 For vehicles with AG4 automatic transmission only. The filling level is to the bottom edge of the filler hole. µ 19. Check the transmission fluid level in the differential and correct as necessary (Ford Specification N VX00). Tighten the filler plug. µ 20. Attach the engine undershield (four bolts, two nuts) (right-hand side shown). WARNING: ON 16 INCH ALUMINIUM WHEELS, TIGHTEN THE WHEEL BOLTS TO A TORQUE OF 170 NM.

10 µ 21. Fit the right-hand front wheel. Lower the vehicle. 1 Tighten the right-hand driveshaft stub bolt. 2 Tighten the wheel bolts. 22. Standard Finishing Operations. Connect the battery negative lead. Enter the radio keycode. Programme the preset radio stations. Set the clock. Carry out a road test to enable the PCM to collect data.
