1 Controls BMS Information SOLA-BOOST Classic & SOLA-BOOST X-Air A Building Management System (BMS) is a control system that can be used to monitor and manage the mechanical, electrical and electromechanical services within a facility. In its most basic form, a BMS consists of software, a server with a database and smart sensors connected to an internet-capable network. The smart sensors situated throughout the building will gather data and send it to the BMS, where it is then stored in a database. The data collected can then be used to control a number of different aspects of the building; including power, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning etc. This makes connecting a Monodraught control system to a BMS very useful as it will allow for a Monodraught Natural Ventilation or Cooling product to be automatically controlled, dependant on pre-defined conditions. When using the SOLA-BOOST Classic and SOLA-BOOST X-AIR to Naturally Ventilate a space, a SOLA-BOOST wall controller can be connected to the BMS to provide temperature, override and optional CO 2 information. This will allows the SOLA-BOOST system to be controlled in order to create a comfortable and healthy environment by means of expelling stale air from the room and supplying fresh air from outside.
2 SOLA-BOOST Wiring Details Classic Cable By Others RS Farnell Damper Assembly Solar Fan 10m Cat 5e straight wired patch lead supplied by Monodraught fitted by others Cat 5e Connection Sola-Boost Wall Mounted Remote (with Temperature Sensor) 1. Full Speed Button: Allows the PowerTrack controller to boost the fan speed automatically. Under this setting the fan speed will be dictated by the power of the sun. This setting remains in this position until another button is pressed. 2. Half Speed Button: Limits the fan speed to approximately 50%. This setting also prevents the boost mode from operating. This setting remains in this position until another button is pressed. 3. Off Button: Shuts the fan off. This setting remains at the off position until another fan speed button is pressed. 4. Close Button: Sends a signal to the control system (output < 0.5V) to close the damper fully for a 20 minute period. After the 20 minute period the system reverts back to the automatic setting. PowerTrack Operation 5. Open Button: Sends a signal to the control system (output > 9.2V) to open the damper fully for a 20 minute period. After the 20 minute period the system reverts back to the automatic setting. 6. CO 2 Sensor (Optional): When the CO 2 level in the area goes above 1500 ppm the output signal will be in the region of V until the level in the space falls below 1300 ppm. 7. Temperature Sensor: When override or CO 2 is not being communicated to the controls the V signal represents C. The SOLA-BOOST PowerTrack comes as a complete package containing the standard Monodraught wall controller to be included within the zone for which the individual SOLA-BOOST system ventilates. The wall controller is available in an integral temperature version or an integral combined temperature and CO 2 version. With any use of the SOLA-BOOST PowerTrack BMS by others, a joint commissioning visit must be undertaken to verify system operation and compliance to outlined control strategy below, in order to validate the no-leak guarantee. The PowerTrack unit runs on a 24V DC supply, which is supplied via the 6 core connector (red & blue) with the green wire being used as information feedback and the white wire used to set the appropriate damper position. The yellow wire is used to control the Active Louvre and the black wire is used for Active Louvre feedback. This night time cooling mode pre-cools the space ready for the next day and reduced the peak temperature for the following day. CO2 Control (Requires within the zone to have integrated CO2 sensor): If the CO 2 trip voltage is received from the controller the system should open the dampers by an additional 20% from the current setting. While this voltage is still present the damper position should be increased by 20% every 5 minutes. Override Control: Override voltages should be echoed to the damper motor as long as a higher priority input (e.g. Heat/Fire) is not being exerted to the system. The profile to be used for opening the damper assembly to the required percentage based on the recommended Monodraught control strategy. info@monodraught.com / +44 (0)
4 Additional Input Control Parameters Rain The systems should ignore temperature and CO 2 control and CLOSE immediately on rain. Higher priorities should be actioned (Override and Fire etc.). Heating Interlock The Dampers should ignore temperature control and be set to 10% or 20%. Higher Priorities should still be actioned. External Temperature (ET) (if available) Can be used to season shift as shown as in the table below. SOLA-BOOST Variations Further to the single SOLA-BOOST system as detailed before, there are 2 other configurations that can control either 2 or 3 systems using the one SOLA-BOOST controller. These are referred to as a Master and Slave System & a Master, Slave 1 and Slave 2 System. The method of control is exactly the same as detailed before and makes up the interface to the Master PowerTrack unit. All that is required is the additional Cat 5 cables to be run to the additional slave units. The typical wiring diagrams are shown below: Current Calendar Season Spring Summer Autumn Winter External Temp (ET) Operational Season for Next 24 Hours Typical Master and Slave ET < 8 C Winter Spring Winter Winter 8 C < ET < 15 C Spring Spring Autumn Winter Cable By Others RS Farnell C < ET < 22 C Spring Summer Autumn Spring 22 C < ET Summer Summer Summer Spring It can also be used in real time for closing the systems if the external temperature is below 5 C for the Snow/Frost Mode (As Rain mode with Rain Priority). Also the dampers can be set to ignore temperature control when the external temperature is more than 3 C above internal and the internal is above a high temp threshold (Usually 25 C internal and > 28 C external). 10m Cat 5e straight wired patch lead Sola-Boost Controler Red: 24V DC White: 2-10V Room Damper Black: 0-10V Fan Control Signal Yellow: 2-10VD C Active Louvre Green: Do Not Use Blue: 0V DC Input Priority List Typical Master, Slave 1 and Slave 2 There are priorities associated with each input so that certain inputs override others, such as Fire Alarm input overriding the CO 2 mode. This is shown in the table on the below. The CO 2 and heating interlock priorities can be swapped via configuration settings.
