When lowered, the top folds to a low stack height in the body and is concealed by a matching soft cover. A front seal shot moulded to the windshield header and 'A' posts, achieves highly efficient weatherproofing, reduced noise levels and improved aerodynamics. The green tinted glass rear window is bonded to the top to achieve a semi-flush finish. Power Operation Zoom Sized for Print Powered actuation and latching is provided by an electrically driven hydraulic pump installed in RH side of trunk. With the ignition switch in position I or II, both the convertible top and rear quarter glass are operated by a single switch located forward of the 'J' gate and marked 'ROOF'. The top is lowered by pressing and holding the rear of the switch until top movement ceases. When the top unlatches, an audible alarm sounds for 0.7 seconds, the rear quarters fully open and any fully closed door glass lowers 12 mm. The audible alarm operates again when the top starts to move. If the door glass is closed, the rear quarters close, then all glass lowers 12 mm.

The top is raised by pressing and holding the front of the switch until the top is fully erected and latched. When the top is fully raised and latched, the audible alarm operates again and all glass closes. Operation of the convertible top is inhibited at vehicle speeds in excess of 16 km/h (10 mph). If the vehicle exceeds this speed when the top is moving to the lowered position, it will continue to the fully down position. Should the vehicle exceed this speed when the top is being raised, further movement will be inhibited until the speed is reduced ALLDATA LLC. All rights reserved. Terms of Use

Issue: This bulletin details the proper procedure for raising the convertible soft top manually in case the power operation does not work. Damage to the mechanism will occur if the procedure detailed below is not followed. * While the XK8 Technical Guide provides a procedure on page 17 for the technician for lowering the soft top manually, owner's literature includes the following statement:* CAUTION! Do not attempt to lower the soft top manually if it will not operate using the switch, as damage to the linkage can occur. Action: In case of a malfunction of the power operating mechanism only, raise the top as follows:

Remove the right side trim panel in the trunk to gain access to the soft top hydraulic pump (Illustration 1). 2. Turn the manual valve on the side of the pump fully counterclockwise. 3. Remove the 8 mm Allen wrench from its location (Illustration 1).

Remove the access plug from the windshield header trim cover and insert the Allen wrench (Illustration 2). 5. Turn the Allen wrench until the latch is raised as shown in Illustration Hold the soft top by its front edge. Raise and pull the top forward until the hook can be engaged in the latch. 7. Turn the Allen wrench until the soft top is fully clamped to the windshield header. 8. Remove the Allen wrench and replace the access plug in the windshield header trim cover. 9. Return the Allen wrench to its storage area alongside the pump in the trunk. 10. Rotate the manual valve of the pump counterclockwise. 11.
