Fostering Global EV Adoption Oleg Logvinov, CharIN NA Spokesperson Coordination Office CharIN c/o innos - Sperlich GmbH
CharIN Vision and Mission The CharIN Vision: Developing and establishing the Combined Charging System (CCS) as the global standard for charging battery powered electric vehicles. Our mission: Expanding the global network by integrating companies on each level of the defined value chain to support and promote CCS Drafting requirements to accelerate the evolution of charging related standards Defining a certification system for all manufacturers implementing CCS in their products Slide 2
CharIN Global Presence CharIN Head Quarter CharIN North America Spokesperson Coordination Office Asia Coordination Office Japan 16 of the top 20 brands are represented in CharIN 155 members Coordination Office Korea Coordination Coordination Office India (in preparation) Office India Slide 3
The path to a Global Interoperable Ecosystem In August, 1 out of 10 (9.90%) new vehicles purchased in the state of California were EVs (PHEVs + BEVs) According to the latest numbers from the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers Advanced Technology Vehicle Sales Dashboard (information provided by IHS Market) Slide 4
The 1 st CharIN North America Conference March 19 th, 2018, Fremont, CA One-day conference with panel discussions, exhibition and networking reception Exhibitors and sponsors: IEEE, ITT Cannon, IoTecha, Vector EVs on-site: Lucid Air, BMW i3, Energica motorbike, MB Smart MBNA, Sumitomo, IoTecha ISO/IEC PnC live demo Slide 5
The 1 st CharIN NA CCS and ISO/IEC Interop Event September 10 th - 13 th, 2018, Detroit, MI One-day Workshop The 9th CCS & ISO / IEC Testing Symposium September 11th + 12th 8 EVs 10 EVSEs 3 Test Devices High-Power Charging for Commercial Vehicles Task Force meeting Slide 6
High Power Charging for Commercial Vehicles Task Force 1500V 3000 AMPS (proposed) The High Power Commercial Vehicle charging standard would allow users to recharge their large, commercial vehicles (Classes 6, 7 & 8) in minutes. Up to 80% of Class 8 truck, carrying 500kWh, in 20 minutes ABB Allego Aptiv Argonne NL Arizona Power ATA Black & Veatch BP Burns&McDonnell BYD CA Energy ChargePoint CharIN Cummins Daimler Delta DOE DOT Duke Energy Electrify America EPRI EVgo Fastned FCA Ford Gillig GM Greenlots Heliox Huber+Suhner Hyundai Idaho Natl Lab IoTecha ITT Leoni Linde Love's MAN Mobility House Navistar New Flyer NFI NMFTA NREL PACCAR Penske Penta Security PGE Phoenix Porsche Prologis Proterra Rampart Security Rema Group Ruan Sandia Schunk Shell Siemens SINBON Sodetrel Staubli Synopsys TA-Petro TE Tesla Thomas & Betts TransTech Tritium UL Vektor Volvo Up to 1.5 MW power delivery Slide 7
High Power Charging for Commercial Vehicles Task Force Key agreements: J1772 and CCS is not sufficient for high power charging of large electric trucks support for both IEC15118 and DIN70121 would be desirable to allow compatibility with existing infrastructure in North America backwards compatibility of hardware (connector) is desired > 1MW power capacity is needed DC charging is the correct approach (vs AC) assisted (automated) operation should not be blocked, but is also not required by the content of the standard V2X power flow should be supported (bi-directional capability) user education is required and should be addressed a use-cased approach to requirements development is appropriate standardization of certain technical parameters is needed (e.g. port location) usage of cord/connection sets should be similar in experience to existing low power solutions contact max temp is defined in IEC62196 and UL2251 Next steps: Finalization of requirements Development of the specification Slide 8
