5 Coestilen Coestilen Coestilen is a pipe an fittings programme in PE, from iam. 32 to iam. 315 mm for: the rain from sanitary fixtures, washing machines an ishwashers in civil an inustrial systems systems for the isposal of rain water ventilation systems rainage of aggressive fluis uner the operating conitions specifie by the UNI ISO/TR 7474 stanars PE is an exceptionally strong an elastic material. Its high molecular weight is a guarantee against fracture ue to prolonge use. Moreover, it is particularly suite to absorb mechanical stresses of significant intensity; so it is specifie for installation in seismic areas. Note: It cannot be use for piping rain water containing benzene or benzole (IN 1986/3, 2.3). 18

8 CONNECTION METOS They can be classifie in three groups: 1) Fixe traction-resistant connections 2) Connections not resistant to traction that can be isassemble 3) Traction-resistant connections that can be isassemble 1) FIXE TRACTION-RESISTANT CONNECTIONS They are obtaine by weling two components to each other only with heat so as to get one single, structurally continuous piece after soliification. This type of connection can be obtaine with: a CONNECTION METOS a) Butt-weling b) Weling with electric coupling b a) Butt-weling The operations to carry out follow: Clean the surfaces to be wele. Cut an trim the ens to be wele. 19 Up to Ø 63 mm: Set the two pieces to be wele on a thermal weling plate taken to the temperature of 210 C ±5 C. Apply slight pressure until an even bea forms along the circumference. After etaching them from the thermal weling plate, join the two pieces by applying a mounting axial force (an avoi rotations). Let the piece cool own. For iameters greater than Ø 63 mm: Loge the two pieces to be wele in the jaws of the weling machine. Cut an egrease the surfaces. Using suitable leverage, raw the two pieces close to the thermal weling plate after having taken its temperature to 210 C ±5. After the softening temperature of the polyethylene is reache, remove the thermal weling plate an press the two ens to be wele together. Time an precision of the operation epen on the iameter of the pieces. Note: The weling must naturally be left to cool own, an the pieces cannot be subjecte to mechanical stress before they are completely cool.

9 CONNECTION METOS CONNECTION METOS 1 2 b) Weling with electric coupling It is obtaine with the use of a special coupling provie with a heating element that, with the passage of current, heats up so as to soften an wel the two pieces of pipe place en to en. Weling with electric coupling is mae in the following steps: 1 Cut the two pieces of pipe at a right angle. 2 Scrape an trim the two pieces of pipe (Fig. 1), egrease the electric coupling with alcohol (Fig. 2) Put the two pieces of pipe into the electric coupling as far as they will go (Fig.3). Fasten the coupling contacts to the weling machine plug pins. Activate the weling machine start evice (Fig. 4). Note: Once weling is complete, the electric coupling must not be subjecte to mechanical stress before it has completely coole ) CONNECTIONS NOT RESISTANT TO TRACTION TAT CAN BE ISASSEM- BLE This type of connection, the feature of which is to make system quick an easy to isassemble, if necessary, is obtaine by using: a) Coupling an expansion sleeves b) Nipples or stuffing box fittings a) Coupling an expansion sleeves The coupling sleeves are equippe with an elastomeric seal that guarantees they are watertight. The connection is mae following these steps: Chamfer the part to be couple at about 15. Lubricate. Engage all the way. For the expansion sleeves, follow the instructions given on them b) Nipple or stuffing box fitting The fitting is mae up of: 1 Threae ring nut 2 Packing glan 3 Seal 4 Threae union The union is wele onto the en of one of the two pipes to be joine. The ring nut, packing glan an seal are sli onto the en of the other pipe. The pipe is put into the union an the ring nut is tightene.

CANGE OF COESTILEN LENGT (ue to temperature changes) Like all materials, if Coestilen is subjecte to temperature changes, it suffers size moifications. The phenomena affecting the systems are only those regaring changes of pipe length. Material expansion phenomena accompany an increase of temperature, which correspon to lengthening of the pipes. A ecrease of contraction phenomena results in a relative shortening of the pipes. These changes of length are proportional to the thermal hea the material sustains in the range of temperatures taken into consieration, an are expresse by the relation: L = αl T with: L = change of length in mm α = linear expansion coefficient 0.2 mm/m/ C T = thermal hea C L = initial pipe length in m The thermal hea?t is given by the ifference of the pipe temperature uring the assembly stage (Ti) an the maximum or minimum temperature it reaches uring operation.
