2 Electric Vehicles at the Crossroads: R ecent scientific evidence on climate change has caused communities to urgently consider alternative ways to reduce our carbon emissions. The European Environment Agency estimates that automobiles alone account for 14% of the EU s total CO2 emissions. The role of electric vehicles in the European transport sector has offered a vast opportunity for industry growth, technology development and most importantly, the much needed reduction of transport CO2 emissions. Electric vehicles have quickly become a catalyst for change in the automotive industry, allowing manufacturers to reach vital CO2 targets while providing zeroemissions and sustainable mobility. However, the introduction of these low carbon technologies requires continued support from the European Commission through policy development, regulation of trade, standardisation, investment as well as research and development funding. EVs will continue to play an integral part in sustainable transport. Therefore, it is has become increasingly urgent to grasp these growing opportunities in order to advance a low carbon future for the whole of the European Union before it becomes another passing promise. This conference offers a timely opportunity for industry stakeholders, investors, business representatives and governments to share their experiences and exchange ideas in order to create a collaborative strategy for electric vehicle development between the highest levels of European government and automotive industry. In addition, this session will provide a forum for dialogue with major stakeholders and a setting for attendees to expand their business networks. Through a series of presentations from leading figures in the automotive, academic and government sectors, participants will have the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the current consultations and Commission plans to develop an innovative framework for EVs. Topics covered will include: Preventing Destabilising Regulation and Creating Homogeneity in Policy Where is Europe Staying in the Technological Evolution? A Future Perspective and Analysis on the Global EV Market European Commission s Role Sustainable Investment and Development Environment in Europe Identifying Opportunities for the EU to Become a World Leader in Electric Vehicles Future Electric Vehicle Market, Research and Development Analysis The Next 10 Years Please Note That Spaces Are Limited Early Registration Discount available until 10th February 2010 London Brussels 14 Great College Street, Rue des Atrébates 106 Westminster, London, SW1P 3RX 1040 Brussels T: +44 (0) F: +44 (0) Tel: +44 (0) M:
