Motorsport Update Congratulations to Tekno Autosport and Jonathon Webb for securing a second driver, Shane Van Gisbergen and a major sponsor, VIP Petfoods. It s great to see VIP signage on a Holden at last. Shane, don t worry about losing a few Ford fans, your move to Holden has doubled your fan base! Don t forget about the 200+ members of the HSV Owners Club of Qld who will show their support! Tony D Alberto is also making the move to Holden this year. He will be driving a Walkinshaw Racing built Commodore. Interestingly, the D Alberto family own Holden dealerships. I guess Tony will be back in the family s good books! I am looking forward to the reveal of the Car of the Future and a sneak peek at the new VF Commodore. Knowing how well HSV produces road going muscle cars, I can just image how brilliant the new HSV s will be. Bring on the first round of the V8 Supercars at the Clipsal 500 in March! 7 FIRST OFFICIAL CRUISE FOR 2013 Sunday 24 th February 2013 Middle Ridge Golf Club, Toowoomba If you are interested in a cruise to Toowoomba for lunch you are going to enjoy this! We have organised a lunch at Middle Ridge Golf Club, Toowoomba on Sunday 24 th February Roast of the Day (2 choices, served as a smorgasboard) will be on offer for lunch. We will have our own function room which includes a deck area. Adults are $20 per head KIDS UNDER 12 are $10 per head - Choose from the kids menu. Payment to be made on the day to the Golf Club when we arrive. We will meet at our regular spot, KFC car park at Redbank Plaza Shopping Centre at 8:30am for a 9:00am leave. On our way to Toowoomba we will stop for a coffee break in the township of Esk. From here we will cruise to Hampton and Highfields before reaching our final destination, Middle Ridge Golf Club, Toowoomba for lunch. 8 Sprint Program 2013 The dates and locations for the regular Sprint Program for 2013 are: Saturday 16 th March Queensland Raceway Max 20 Competitors Saturday 17 th August Lakeside Max 15 Competitors Sunday 13 th October Lakeside Max 15 Competitors We also have an optional 2 day event participating in the 2 Days of Thunder at Queensland Raceway on 22 nd and 23 rd June. For this we need a minimum of 12 participants and interest will be gauged and a decision made by 31 st March. This year we are running in the QR Open Sprint series and all participants are eligible for both Club championship and the QR championship. For QR scoring please check their website. The Club trophy will be done in same manner as previous years with the addition in 2013 for a fastest under and over 6 litre category which will be scored by allotting points of 20 for first, 15 for second and 10 for third for each event in both of the classes. The competitor with the highest points at season end will be declared winner in each of the categories. There will be 3 x 6 lap sprints plus passenger ride sessions at the discretion of track management time permitting. The cost for either venue is $150 (normal QR rate is $175) per car payable to the Club by cash or cheque on the day. Other costs apart from running costs are QR AASA track licence of $55 per year or $20 per day. A timing device can be bought for $80.00 which will last for approx 7 years or can be hired for $20 a day with an $80 deposit required with a $60 refund upon return. We have also been advised that an in helmet radio receiver may also be required by all competitors. Like the transmitter it will be available for purchase or hire at reasonable rates still to be advised. Helmet hire is available for $5.00 a day. QR operates EFTPOS facilities at both tracks for licence, transmitter, headset and helmet hire. Entries will need to be via signed entry form which is posted on the Club website com.au Completed entry forms need to be received 1 week in advance of meeting date and can be ed to treasurer@hsvowners.com.au or faxed to If you do fax them direct to QR, please advise Peter Woods. Entry is on a first received basis so please get them in as quickly as possible as Lakeside fills up very fast with its max 15 limit. If you want late entry please phone Peter Woods on to check availability. Entrants should arrive at the track at approximately 11:15am for sign in with drivers briefing normally at 12.00pm and the first sprints starting at approximately 1:00pm. Expected finish time is 4:15pm. Prospective entrants should check the Motorsport tab on our website to view handy tips for vehicle preparation for the sprints. If you want to race this is not the event for you. If you want to stretch your cars legs and improve your driving skills we would love to have you along. You should also be aware that your car is unlikely to be covered by comprehensive insurance for any damage whilst on track. 9 Drag Race - Test and Tune at Willowbank Raceway Saturday 6 th April 2013 The Club has purchased a group drag racing run at Willowbank Raceway (Champions Way, Willowbank) on Saturday 6 th April 2013 between the hours of 2:00pm to 4:00pm. There will be no extension in time when the fault of the delay was not caused by the raceway. e.g. oil down, fluid spills, accidents, rain. Cost is $85 per entrant and that admits driver and one other. Spectator cost is $20 per adult, $18 per student with ID and kids 13 & under are free. There is no maximum number of entrants but ideally we would like Please bring cash or cheque on the day for payment to the Club for the entrant fee but spectator fees will be payable direct to Willowbank raceway at the gate. Gates will open at 2:00pm and we have sole use of the track from 2.30pm to 4:00pm. From 4:00pm the staging lanes will be open to all other competitors. The entrants and spectators can stay on and participate in the scheduled Willowbank event on the day at no extra cost. After you have collected your entry form from the gate, take your vehicle and form to the staging lanes. All vehicles MUST CHECK IN at the back of the staging lanes before their first run. All drivers must sign the entry form. A second person may drive a vehicle BUT they must sign an entry form. After signing the entry form, your arm will be stamped and you must show the stamp to the official at the head of the Staging Lanes. Willowbank Raceway has the right to refuse any entrant to compete if the vehicle is considered not to meet the necessary standards set by the Raceway. 13 In 1987, Australia s leading performance car manufacturer was born. From humble beginnings in a factory in Notting Hill, Victoria, to the imminent production of its 75,000 th vehicle, HSV holds a very special place in Australian motoring. To help us celebrate our 25 th Anniversary, we are pleased to bring you HSV 25 Years in 25 Days. We take a look in the rear view mirror and recount 25 memorable moments that have shaped the course of HSV. Memorable moment #7, in our 25 Years in 25 Days series, looked at the first ever Maloo, introduced back in Sixteen years later, it was our prized Maloo R8 that took HSV into the Guinness World Records (GWR), having earned the title of World s Fastest Ute. In 2006, and with Australian Touring Car and Bathurst champion Mark Skaife at the helm, the HSV crew headed to the Federal Government s Woomera Prohibited Area in outback South Australia. Conforming to GWR guidelines, the LS2 6.0-litre V8 Maloo R8 first had to be independently inspected to ensure it was a standard production specification vehicle, and then, the HSV team had only one hour to clock two fast times over a 1km course. The average speed needed to be faster than the previous record, which was km/h and held by Daimler Chrylser in a Dodge RAM SRT litre V10. Conducted in strictly controlled conditions, the HSV blew that time out of the water. Speed 1 was recorded at km/h, and speed 2 was recorded at km/h, setting the new world record at a blistering km/h and awarding the HSV Maloo R8 the title of World s Fastest Production Pickup/Utility. 24 HSV Owners Club of Qld. Walkinshaw Racing offers the following chassis for sale: WR007 This car started life as an HRT car for Garth Tander in 2008 and won a number of races, before becoming the Bundy Racing car and ending up in the hands of Fabian Coulthard. It is perhaps most famous for its significant roll over on the opening lap of the 2010 Bathurst 1000 after a tyre puncture. It has since been back on the jig and completely repaired, and has done duty as a show car for King Gee and Supercheap since. Price - $150,000 plus GST complete with engine. WR009 This is the car that Nick Percat used in the 2012 Development Series. It was originally built in November 2008, and was raced by Paul Dumbrell in Autobarn colours before becoming Fabian Coulthard s Bundaberg Racing car. It became a spare during 2010, before Nick used it for the first time at the 2010 Development Series Bathurst race. Fabian then stepped into it again after his rollover in WR007 at the Chase it was again a spare, and then became Nick s car this year, winning a number of Dunlop Series races. Price - $200,000 plus GST complete with engine. WR012 This is the first build of our latest generation chassis, completed in May 2010 and first raced at Darwin by Garth Tander in June Will Davison later ran the car, and then it became the chassis James Courtney first used when he joined our team, winning the Abu Dhabi round in It became the spare car in April 2012 and has completed 23 rounds. Price - $220,000 plus GST complete with engine. WR013 This car was first run by Will Davison at Darwin in June It became the Bundaberg Racing entry for Fabian Coulthard in 2011 and then the Supercheap Auto Racing chassis in 2012 for Russell Ingall. Price - $220,000 plus GST complete with engine. WR015 This car was built in early 2012 as a new vehicle for James Courtney and first raced in Hamilton NZ. It is the last of the HRT designed chassis to be built under the current regulations, and finished on the podium at the last round of the season at Homebush.
