I am both delighted and proud to be a part of a renowned and progressive driver training school; delivering new drivers to the industry every year. Scania is recognised as the market leader and the first truck manufacturer to deliver licence acquisition. Over the last few years the team here has worked hard to develop our licence acquisition programmes, introducing tailored solutions to fully manage your journey, and delivering CPC courses to ensure you are up to date with the latest industry developments, keeping you on the road for many years ahead. 5 Five reasons to become an LGV driver 1. Job security There is a huge shortage of LGV drivers across the UK and with many driver professionals set to retire in the coming years demand for new recruits is high. Freight will always need to be transported; therefore the industry requires skilled drivers. 2. Variety There are a huge range of flexible working opportunities for LGV drivers including; day tripping within the UK, local and regional driving, city-based haulage and long distance tramping across Europe. 3. Salary prospects The average salary for a professional Truck driver is substantially higher than the National Average Wage. Many companies offer bonuses for a good safety record, length of service as well as carrying certain loads or travelling extra-long distances. 4. Independence The open road is your workplace and your space is your own, listening to a station of your choice, and all whilst seeing the changing scenery and experiencing different cultures. This is an experience not all careers can offer. 5. Professional and well respected career LGV deliveries are an integral part of the economy everything you own has travelled and without highly skilled drivers this would not be possible. For those who would like administrative support, for example, to schedule the medical assessment and theory tests, we offer the Start Plus option for this service, tailored to your exact requirements. 8 Category C Licence Acquisition This is the entry level licence for anyone who wants to become an LGV driver. Those who hold a Category C licence can drive rigid vehicles over 3,500kg (3.5 tonnes) with a trailer up to 750kg. Entry requirements Learners must hold a full valid Category B (Car) licence. Timescale A Category C licence can be achieved in as little as 8 weeks. The timescale for completion will depend on a learner s commitment to study for the theory exams and availability at training and test centres. The process Application Step 1: Medical assessment and application for provisional licence Driving as an occupation Driving for personal use Theory online learning and tests Step 2: Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency Modules: Multiple choice (Module 1a) Hazard perception (Module 1b) Assessment (optional) Step 3: 1 hour driving assessment to tailor the practical training to you Practical training and test Step 4: 5 half day training sessions * including a test on the final day Already passed, or wish to book your own theory tests? You can book your assessment and practical training immediately. We will require proof of passing before your practical test is scheduled. Driver Certificate of Professional Competence Step 5: Theory test for Module 2 case studies Step 6: 1 day DVSA Module 4 (practical demonstration) training including test and Driver Qualification Card on successful completion *standard minimum duration 8 Truck Licence Training

9 Category C + E Licence Acquisition This is the licence needed to drive the largest vehicles on the road. Those who hold a Category C + E licence can drive articulated vehicles over 3,500kg (3.5 tonnes) with a trailer over 750kg. Entry requirements Learners must hold a full valid Category C licence. Timescale A Category C + E licence can be achieved in as little as 3 weeks. The timescale for completion will depend on availability at training and test centres. The process Application Step 1: Application for provisional licence Theory online learning and tests Step 2: As a Category C licence holder you have completed Module 1a and 1b Driving as an occupation Driving for personal use Assessment (optional) Step 3: 1 hour driving assessment to tailor the practical training to you Practical training and test Step 4: 5 half day training sessions * including a test on the final day Driver Certificate of Professional Competence Step 5: Theory test for Module 2 case studies Step 6: 1 day DVSA Module 4 (practical demonstration) training including test and Driver Qualification Card on successful completion Already passed your Driver Certificate of Professional Competence? 10 Training Our blended learning means that you will carry out online learning in the comfort of your own home, at your own pace, and attend practical training at your local training centre. Theory online learning and tests We offer driver theory learning through an online portal so you can gain the knowledge you need to pass your tests. Here you will have the opportunity to sit unlimited mock tests. You may book direct through DVSA, alternatively, we can book these on your behalf at your local theory test centre. Practical training and test Training will take place at your chosen location in half day sessions which run in the morning or afternoon. These sessions will be tailored to you. For driving courses, you will be provided with our workbook that guides you through your training. Upon successful completion of your training and test this can be presented to prospective employers and used as evidence towards the LGV Apprenticeship. The training is delivered in our modern vehicles that are equipped with the latest technology to ensure you have the best possible chance of achieving a first time pass. On the day of your test, you will be accompanied to the test centre by your trainer who will be there to support you. 10 Truck Licence Training
