Situation update: 1.1 A total of 36 people, including 8 children died, 2 are missing and about 500 people have been injured. 1.2 The Ukrainian National Weather Center forecasts heavy rains on 9 August in the Carpathians regions and rains and thunderstorms are also expected on 10 August. 2. Resources available for disaster response and measures taken: 2.1 About people and vehicles of the emergency services and army forces are involved in the evacuation and disaster relief activities. 2.2 Special task forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations use amphibious carriers and helicopters to deliver food and to transport injured people. 2.3 Around 300 tons of food, 950 tons of drinking water and 6 tons of medicine have been delivered to affected regions. 2.4 The Government has endorsed the General Plan on liquidation of flood consequences and prevention of such events in the future. 2.5 On 7-8 August 2008, the UN team, UNICEF Representative in Ukraine and experts of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) will assess the current humanitarian situation and medium and long-term recovery needs. With a view to providing a coordinated response to the stricken nation s requirements, nations in a position to meet these demands, in full or in part, are invited to reply to the Operational Point of Contact of the Stricken Nation, with an information copy to EADRCC, by any of the communication means listed above and below The EADRCC is in contact with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA) in Geneva and exchange information with EU MIC. The EU MIC is heavily involved in managing the consequencies in the stricken country by facilitating offers of the EU member states, which are listed above.
