2 Section 4. Specifications 1. GENERAL This vehicle specification outlines the product definition of the B350 offered by JBT, Ground Support Equipment. Tractors in this line are equipped with diesel powered engines, power shift transmissions, and four wheel drive axles with rubber pneumatic tires. The B350 tractor is capable of maneuvering aircraft under a wide range of climatic conditions. 2. Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW): Maximum allowable weight of the vehicle with full capacity fluids, driver, passenger and equipment options. The vehicle has a weight tolerance of ± 907 kg (± 2000 lb.). Maximum Tow Load (MTL): Maximum net force in kilograms-force / Newtons (pounds-force) that the vehicle is capable of producing at the tow coupler under the specified conditions. 3 THE TOLERANCE VARIATION ON GVW AND DBP IS 3%. THE ABOVE STATED DRAWBAR PULL (DBP) IS BASED ON NORMAL OPERATIONS, ON DRY, LEVEL CONCRETE. 3. 9 H. HITCH COUPLERS All dimensions to coupler center line, which are ± 19 mm (± 0.75 in.) of tolerance based on vehicle weight. Hitch couplers can be attached to the vehicle at three different mounting height points. Refer to Chapter 4, Illustrated Parts List for hitch couplers and pin diameters in accordance with customer specifications for the vehicle. 5. APPROXIMATE FRICTION COEFFICIENTS A. The B350 is designed with an engine that will start with no additional aids other than the standard grid heater set down to -18 ºC (0 ºF). The winterization option includes battery heaters, immersion engine block heater, and hydraulic tank immersion heaters which maintain functionality at a minimum of -40 ºC (-40 ºF). 16 Section 5. Shipping and Transportation 1. GENERAL This section contains general information on preparation of the vehicle for transportation. Check regulations of the states and countries through which the vehicle will be transported, for specific requirements such as dimensional limitations, whether or not the vehicle can be transported with fuel, fluids, etc. Also, review Chapter 1, Section 6 for storage requirements and information on protection that may be required, if time en route is expected to be more than a week. WARNING THE EQUIPMENT PRE-OPERATIONAL CHECKLIST SHOULD BE UTILIZED WHEN COMMISSIONING NEW EQUIPMENT, AND FOR RE-COMMISSIONING AFTER A MAJOR REPAIR, OVERHAUL, RECOMMENDED ANNUAL MAINTENANCE, OVER-THE- ROAD TRANSPORTATION, AND IF THE MACHINE HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR MORE THAN SIX MONTHS. REFER TO EQUIPMENT PRE-OPERATIONAL CHECKLIST IN CHAPTER 2, SECTION 3. REFER TO SPECIFICATIONS IN CHAPTER 1, SECTION 4 FOR WEIGHT, GENERAL DIMENSIONS, AND OTHER DETAILS BEFORE TRANSPORTING THE VEHICLE. BEFORE REMOVING OR INSTALLING VEHICLE COMPONENTS, ENSURE THE VEHICLE IS ON LEVEL GROUND, WHEELS ARE SECURELY CHOCKED AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS SWITCHED OFF. 2. PREPARATION OF THE UNIT FOR SHIPPING A. PREPARATION Preparation of the vehicle is very important, especially if transportation will be by sea, or it is expected to last for more than a week. It must be considered that the vehicle may be exposed to unusual weather conditions during transportation. Protect engine. If shipment will keep the vehicle out of service for an extended period of time, follow storage instructions in the engine s manual (refer to instructions in Chapter 1, Section 6, Storage, and Manufacturers Appendices in Chapter 5). B. DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS (1) The vehicle is shipped with the parking brake applied, engine switched OFF, electrical power disconnected and transmission in neutral. Fragile components should be packed in separate box(es). (2) Hitch couplers may be removed for transportation, but it is NOT required. SHIPPING AND TRANSPORTATION 1-5 Page 1

(4) Disconnect power from optional battery disconnect switch if provided. 3. SHIPPING WEIGHT AND DIMENSIONS REFER TO SPECIFICATIONS IN CHAPTER 1, SECTION 4 FOR INFORMATION ON DIMENSIONS, WEIGHT, AND VOLUME FOR SHIPPING. TOTAL WEIGHT WILL DEPEND ON BALLAST AND OPTIONS INCLUDED IN THE VEHICLE. 4. LOADING AND UNLOADING THE VEHICLE Verify that clearance angles are greater than those of trucks and loading ramps to avoid the vehicle to get stuck while loading or unloading. CAUTION OUTSIDE MIRRORS MUST BE FOLDED INBOARD FOR SHIPPING. 5. LIFTING THE VEHICLE The vehicle is provided with lugs for lifting during transportation. 19 A. TOWING CAUTION ENSURE THE PARKING BRAKE IS DISENGAGED WHILE TOWING. B. RESTRAINT REFER TO EMERGENCY PROCEDURES IN CHAPTER 1, SECTION 3 FOR INSTRUCTIONS FOR TOWING THE VEHICLE. The vehicle is equipped with tie-down hooking points at the front and rear of the vehicle (refer to Figure 2). The front and rear hitch couplers, which are normally not removed for transportation, can be used to restrain the vehicle in addition to tie-down hooking points. Restrain the vehicle with chains and over-center tensioning devices, and chocks. Inspect all attaching points to ensure the restraints are secure and straps (if used) do not bear against surfaces, causing failure en route due to chafing or vibration. 20 Section 6. Storage 1. GENERAL It is very important to properly prepare a vehicle that will be de-commissioned, or removed from service for a period of time. The main purpose of a proper preparation before storage is to avoid, or at least minimize, potential damage due to moisture, rust and corrosion, and possible component seizing. In addition, a proper preparation of the vehicle prior to storage, as well as periodic verification during storage, will allow to readily place the vehicle back into service with minimum effort, and without major problems. THE EQUIPMENT PRE-OPERATIONAL CHECKLIST SHOULD BE UTILIZED WHEN COMMISSIONING NEW EQUIPMENT, AND FOR RE-COMMISSIONING AFTER A MAJOR REPAIR, OVERHAUL, RECOMMENDED ANNUAL MAINTENANCE, OVER-THE- ROAD TRANSPORTATION, AND IF THE MACHINE HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR MORE THAN SIX MONTHS. REFER TO EQUIPMENT PRE-OPERATIONAL CHECKLIST IN CHAPTER 2, SECTION 3. MAINTENANCE SPECIFICATIONS ARE CONTAINED IN CHAPTER 2, SECTION 4. CAUTION COMPLY WITH ALL LOCAL AND GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS FOR DISPOSING OF ENVIRONMENTALLY SENSITIVE MATERIALS SUCH AS TIRES, BELTS, BATTERIES, MOTOR OILS, GREASE, HYDRAULIC OIL, FUELS, REFRIGERANT GASES AND GLYCOLS. 2. STORAGE - LONGER THAN SIX MONTHS A. VEHICLE (1) Touch up all worn or damaged paint to prevent rust. (2) Once all the subsequent steps are performed, refer to EQUIPMENT SHELTER below in this section for recommended protection of the equipment. B. ENGINE (1) Drain the engine crankcase. (2) Fill the crankcase to the proper level with the recommended viscosity and grade oil. (3) Fill the fuel tank with the recommended grade of fuel oil. Operate the engine for two minutes, or until the engine is warm, at 1200 rpm at no load. Refill the fuel tank. (4) Check the air cleaner and service it, if necessary. (5) If freezing weather is expected during the storage period, add an ethylene glycol-based antifreeze solution in accordance with the manufacturer s recommendations. STORAGE 1-6 Page 1

21 (6) Clean outside of engine (except electrical system). Dry with compressed air. (7) Apply a non-friction, rust preventive compound such as a wax coat to all exposed parts. (8) Drain the engine cooling system. (9) Drain the preservative oil from the engine crankcase. Reinstall and tighten the drain plug. (10) Remove and clean the battery and battery cables with a baking soda solution and rinse them with fresh water. Do not allow the soda solution to enter the battery. REFER TO MANUFACTURERS APPENDICES IN CHAPTER 5 FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON ENGINE MAINTENANCE AND PRESERVATION. (11) Protect the vehicle with a good, weather-resistant tarpaulin and store it under cover, preferably in a dry building which can be heated during the winter months. C. BATTERIES (1) Disconnect and remove batteries and add distilled water to the electrolyte, if necessary. Fully charge them and store in a cool and dry location not exposed to direct sunlight. Do not leave batteries directly on the ground or concrete floor. (2) Keep batteries fully charged, or give them a slow charge every one to two months. Leave them on a float charger, if possible. D. TRANSMISSION No special action needed. E. AXLES No special action needed. F. TIRES (1) Raise vehicle and chock axles to prevent tire contact with the ground. (2) Reduce tire pressure to 100 kpa / 1 bar (15 psi). Spray tires with a rubber preservative. G. HYDRAULIC SYSTEM (1) Coat exposed hydraulic cylinder rods with grease or rust preventative. (2) Periodically inspect the vehicle. If there are any indications of rust or corrosion, corrective steps must be taken to prevent damage to the hydraulic components. H. GENERAL COMPONENTS Coat all exposed unpainted metal surfaces with rust preventative. I. EQUIPMENT SHELTER Ideally, the vehicle should be stored in a shelter to protect it from the weather, since outdoor storage is not recommended. Nevertheless, in some cases, outdoor storage may be unavoidable. If the vehicle must be kept outdoors, follow all preparation and storage instructions. 1-6 Page 2 GENERAL INFORMATION AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

22 (1) Protect the vehicle with quality, weather-resistant tarpaulins (or other suitable covers) ensuring proper air circulation. CAUTION DO NOT USE PLASTIC SHEETING FOR STORAGE. PLASTIC SHEETING USED FOR STORAGE WILL CREATE CONDENSATION WHICH MAY CAUSE METAL SURFACES TO RUST OR PIT. (2) The stored vehicle should be inspected periodically. If there are any indications of rust or corrosion, corrective steps must be taken to prevent further damage. Perform a complete inspection at the end of one year and apply additional treatment as required. 3. RETURNING VEHICLE TO SERVICE WARNING PERFORM THE RE-COMMISSIONING MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES BEFORE RETURNING THE VEHICLE INTO SERVICE AFTER STORAGE. A. RE-COMMISSIONING AFTER STORAGE When returning the equipment to service after a time period longer than six months, several items should be act upon, as follows: (1) Perform a general inspection of the vehicle in accordance to the EQUIPMENT PRE-OPERATIONAL CHECKLIST in Chapter 2, Section 3. (2) Tires should be inspected, and inflated to specifications, and vehicle should be removed from raising blocks. (3) Fully recharge the batteries before installing them and placing the vehicle back into operation. (4) All fluids, including oil, fuel, and coolant must be replenished or replaced according to recommendations on maintenance schedules. (5) Perform, as a minimum, the recommended daily check and quarterly maintenance according to maintenance schedules in Chapter 2, Section 3. B. RE-COMMISSIONING AFTER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF INACTIVITY If the vehicle has been in storage for over a year before placing it into service, an exhaustive inspection, and a comprehensive maintenance should be performed on the equipment to ensure proper operation, and minimize breakdown and downtime. (1) Perform all the steps stated in A. RE-COMMISSIONING AFTER STORAGE. (2) Perform the ANNUAL maintenance schedule as stated in Preventative Maintenance in Chapter 2, Section 3, and Manufacturers Appendices in Chapter 5. (3) Verify that ALL the checks and maintenance (daily, quarterly, annually, and pre-operational) have been performed as recommended in Preventative Maintenance in Chapter 2, Section 3.
