2 Page 2 of 5 Classic Heartbeat When I was little, I bought a large scale model of a 1957 Bel Air Sport Coupe to put together. My father was a hobbyist for many years and even owned a hobby shop. He loved cars but his real passion was radio controlled planes built from scratch. My dad and I had a special bond and with his interests in assembly and detail I picked those traits up and made a few models. One day I was drawn to a model car that I really wanted to take on myself. The model was a large scale 1957 Chevy Bel Air Sports Coupe and I painted it Black! I always had an affinity for this particular car. In fact, the model still resides in my home on the refrigerator. Several years later I was near Springfield Missouri and I came across a 57 Chevy Bel Air four door sedan for sale. I drove it and that experience put the bug back in me. The four door sedan was ok however it would have been a lengthy project to say the least. For whatever reason, I happened to look on EBay to look at what they had listed for 57 Chevy Bel Air s and wouldn t you know it I found a real 57 Black Bel Air just like the model car I made. I didn t plan it this way, yet I ended up with this black 57 Bel Air Sport Coupe from Lake Ozark, 90 miles from where I was in Missouri. All of the numbers matched and it had just over 89,000 original miles. The guy who owned it previously, for 25 years, put it on the market to purchase a 57 Bel Air convertible. To my delight, I am the fourth owner and it s been a real blast having it in my life! See Gina s 57 in the DACC Display at the Autorama!

3 Classic Heartbeat Page 3 of 5 My Other Car Feature Story Larry and Linda Goodpasture, The Colony and Mabank, TX 1965 Ford Thunderbird I have been a car nut for as long as I can remember. My dad helped me buy a 1950 Ford Coupe with my savings when I was 13 years old. It did not run and had the transmission (3-speed overdrive) in pieces in the trunk. Since I could not drive it at that age, I spent inordinate amounts of time taking things apart and putting them back together, with some advice and a lot of scolding from my dad. I got it running and finally got the transmission back together and sold my first car at age 14 with a profit. I bought it for $15 and sold it for $35 in From there it has been a long standing love affair with cars. Over the years I have bought, sold, repaired, restored, and, most importantly, enjoyed a 53 M38 military jeep, a 69 Jeepster Commando, a 58 Chevy pickup, a 50 Willys Overland pickup, and 48 Willys Overland pickup, a and 68 Jeepster Commando. I now own a 65 Thunderbird Special Anniversary Landau and recently bought a 56 Bel Air coupe. I joined DACC within weeks of taking delivery on my 56 Bel Air, even though it probably will not be on the road for a year or so and not really complete for another year or so after that. I am planning to do a full frame off resto-mod on this one. I have a 427/600hp on my wishlist for this one someday. guy out in Oregon for a 55 Thunderbird that just was not work out. That effort got me interested in TBirds and around Thanksgiving in 2012, I found a 65 Special Edition Landau in Tacoma, Washington. That model was released to commemorate the 10th anniversary of TBird. They only made 4500 of these special birds and mine is #3047 of that group. They made them in two color combinations; white with white vinyl top and Emberglo Metallic with parchment vinyl top. The Emberglo model caught on well as it was the first year Ford used that color and only on these special Tbirds. Mine is an Emberglo model. Unfortunately, since the white on white model never sold well, Ford only built a couple hundred of them. Needless to say, they are worth a bunch more than the Emberglo models today. I am in the North Texas Vintage Thunderbird club and join their cruises and gatherings as often as I can. My When I was in high school I had a 55 Chevy, 265 4bbl with Powerglide. I loved that car but the tranny did not love the way I was always putting the pedal to the metal and it became a real problem with slipping. I traded the 55 off for a 60 Bonneville but I never quite got the Tri 5 out of my memory. I decided to get out of 4WD trucks a couple years ago and back into cars. I was trying to do a deal with a Continued on Page 5

I never got that 55 out of my head but found I like the 56 styling a bit more so began my search for one of them. I found this one on ebay and made a bid I thought was far too low for it and won. So... This 56 came from a garage find in a small town just outside of Detroit. The story goes that the owner had bought the Bel Air in Los Angeles in 1970 and trailered it back to Detroit with every intention of restoring it. He got a decent start on the project, as you can see from the replaced rocker in the picture, did a lot of suspension work and purchased a new crate 350 and TH350 tranny in He got the engine and tranny installed and just started on the wiring when he became ill. He never recovered to work on the car again and passed away in the 80's. His wife refused to sell it due to memories of him working on it all the time. She passed away in September 2013 and the son immediately put it on the market. I ran across it on ebay and made the deal while on vacation in Costa Rica. I had it shipped to Texas and received it the Monday after Thanksgiving weekend. It is sitting at my weekend home on Cedar Creek Lake under a carport while I have a new garage and workshop built. I did take time to jerry-rig the ignition and hooked up an electric fuel pump to a gas can and fired it up just after New Year's day. It started nearly immediately and ran perfect! What a shock! Now the work begins when my new shop is completed in March sometime. Can't wait. Do you have a Other Car (a non Chevy?) We would love to see it and read about it! Last month the DACC club event of the month was the traditional Meet N Greet at the old school Mr. Frosty Drive In located in Denton. The weather could not have been better for a Texas January day and the Chevys came out in force filling the parking lot up with no room to spare with Tri Five Chevys! Thanks to Mr Frosty for having us, and thanks to all the members who brought out their Chevys for this fun event and thanks to the Denton Chamber of Commerce for ordering up the nice weather!
