These include welding, chemical bonding and mechanical connections. The in-house injection moulding process ensures good product availability. 22 22 conveyor drives optibelt ALPHA Special CUStomISED SOLUTIONS The processing of PU timing belts is one of our specialities. Due to many years of experience we develop optimum solutions for special applications of our customers in the segments of conveyance, food, packaging, glass, wood, linear drives and medical applications. All product groups of endless and joined belts can be used for conveyance. Examples of applications are: parallel and synchronous conveyors, inclined conveyors, accumulating conveyors, vacuum conveyors, separators or workpiece postioners, exhaust units The base belts which were selected according to the requirements can be adapted to the special type of conveyance if necessary via coatings and /or cleats the base belt, the coating and the cleat can all be additionally adapted in geometry and dimension via mechanical processing. These forward machined special belts are labelled special in addition to their actual product group name. Example: The product group name of an endless welded optibelt ALPHA V polyurethane timing belt with additional coating is changed to optibelt ALPHA V Special. 23 conveyor drives 23 optibelt ALPHA Special APPLICatION EXAMPLES Picture 1: Customised solution for the conveyance of semi-finished goods The example given in picture 1 presents a customised solution for the conveyance of semi-finished products. In this particular case, an optibelt ALPHA V AT20 ST was coated with the coating material Sylomer L, green, PU foam. Afterwards, grooves and holes were cut out via water jet, and vacuum pockets were milled with an NC milling machine. With such belt the semi-finished products can be conveyed on to further processing steps via vacuum technology. For a special machinery manufacturer OPTIBELT has deve - loped a solution (see picture 2), for the conveyance of cuton-demand material (pipe, square and rectangular profiles) without changing the belt type. Furthermore, a slipping of the cutted material due to the startstop-frequency has to be prevented. The belts (depending on the number of pieces 4-6 belts) do run synchronously in parallel depending on the lengths of the cutted profile. The belt back is equipped with foam profiles (Sylomer R, blue, PU foam) and PU cleats in order to ensure a conveyance with exact positioning of the individually cut profiles. Picture 2: Customised solution for the conveyance of cut material The customised solution shown in picture 3 was ordered by a customer from the pet / animal food industry in order to convey empty pet / animal food packaging to filling stations. The belt back was coated with a natural rubber (RP 400, yellow) and equipped with cleats. The welded cleats have an additional glass fibre reinforced protective layer in order to counter the high shear forces of the sharp-edged pet / animal food packaging. Furthermore, the cleats ensure an exact positioning of the goods to be conveyed. Picture 3: Customised solution for the conveyance of pet / animal food packaging

24 24 conveyor drives optibelt ALPHA Special online CLEAT SELEcToR SYStematically selecting the adequate cleat With help of a new online tool, OPTIBELT now offers a quick and easy access to their comprehensive range of cleats. With the cleat selector, customers are now able to systematically select the perfect cleat for their individual conveyance solution from a standard range of over 300 different cleat shapes. Furthermore the cleats can also be adapted according to customers own specifications. This way, the new cleat selector helps to find the suitable cleat shape for every application. The most important basic data concerning shape, material and size of the cleats can be accessed via the selection screen. Thus the customer can search for their best suited solution. The according search result lists all available cleat designs with a detailed picture including all technical specifications such as width, height, thickness, welding thickness and material. Every hit can easily be downloaded as pdf-file or CAD file for free. In case there is no suitable cleat in our product range though, OPTIBELT can produce individual shapes and designs on demand even in small series. All cleats are suitable for the use on thermo-plastic belts by optibelt: ALPHA V, ALPHA flex or ALPHA linear. According to the requirements of the customer, the cleats are either welded on, chemically bound or attached mechanically. The cleat selector can be directly accesses via

25 conveyor drives 25 optibelt ATC system FOR FLEXIBLE CONVEYOR APPLICatIONS Profile ATC10 ATC profile with cut-outs for ATC inserts in every tooth Punching of a through hole with the ATC punching tool Users of the ATC system are able to install screw-on cleats quickly and easily upon any tooth onsite. The user can easily screw-on and detach the connection. This way, the same drives and base belt can be adapted to different goods simply by using different types of screw-on cleats. The costs for stocking up wear and tear spare parts can be reduced by using a detachable cleat fixing. ATC inserts allow for the direct screwing-on of e. g. high-precision metal workpiece carriers without welded, specially manufactured cleats with inserts. Screwon cleats are able to transmit more power than permanent cleats. Furthermore, the minimum pulley diameter is smaller despite the same connection size. Screw-on cleats for the ATC system are available on request. Using the ATC system, ATC inserts are placed in the pre-moulded cut-out in the belt tooth to fix the screw-on cleat in place. These cut-outs are standard features for all teeth of the optibelt ALPHA V timing belt in profile ATC10. Before placing the ATC insert, the preformed blind holes within the cut-out of the chosen tooth have to be punched with the ATC-PT punching tool in order to get through holes. Making the punching easier, the optibelt ALPHA V profile ATC10 has no tension members in the area where the blind holes are. The AlpHA ATC in standard design is optionally available with polyamide fabric on the teeth (PAZ). For applications in the food or pharmaceutical industry, a special design with stainless steel tension cords is also available. The zinc-die cast (ZN) or stainless steel (RF) ATC insert consists of two bushes which are joined by a durable bar. The ATC insert completely follows the contour of the belt tooth, not touching the teeth of the timing belt pulley. 28 28 MecHanical connections mechanical BESIDES THE TIMING Belt joint ZS / ZSi, CONNECTIONS HAS BEEN EXTENDED BY TIMING BELT joint ZS AND ZSi THE TIMING BELT joint ZS / ZSi IS DESIGNED FOR THE REPEATED DETACHING AND joining OF TtIMIMG BELTS IN THE application. Both designs are available in stainless steel for the profiles AT10 and H ex stock. Thus, this connection can be used in combination with the suitable timing belts in the food and pharmaceutical industry. For the profile T10 the inserts for the toothed side are made of brass which is not suitable for the application in the food and pharmaceutical industry. The back plates are connected with the inserts on the toothed side via bolts that are screwed on through the belt. The belt back of the design ZSi is 1 mm higher so that the back plates are enbedded into the timing belt and end at the height of the belt back. The standard widths belt joints for the profiles AT10 and T10 are 25; 32 and 50 mm, and for the H profile 25.4; 38.1 and 50.8 mm. Further intermediate widths and width exceeding 50 mm on request.

29 MecHanical connections 29 TIMING BELT joints THE RANGE OF MECHANICAL THE Version PINJOIN TIMING BELT joint PINJOIN THE TIMING BELT joint PINJOIN IS Designed for a singular connection of timing belts directly into the application on site. The belt is joined via threaded pins made of stainless steel in cross holes all through the tooth. Thus, this connection can be used in combination with the suitable timing belts in the food and pharmaceutical industry. The pinjoin connection is also suitable for the connection of coated belts. In the spot of the connection, however, the coating is bluntly placed face to face. The standard width ranges of lock connections for the profile AT10 are 25, 32 and 50 mm. Further profiles, intermediate widths and width exceeding 50 mm on request.
