1 MODEL TYPE SECTION/GROUP DATE D / E / J Series Coaches Service Information 6--Cooling System Sept. 11, 2008 SUBJECT CONDITIONS BOOST PUMP LEAKING SEAL Parts may be purchased from MCI Service Parts, Louisville, Kentucky or from MCI ServiceParts,Newcastle,Ontario. Description: It has come to the attention of MCI that some capscrews on the coolant boost pump may have been under---torqued by the supplier, which may result in minor, slow leaks at the boost pump seal. Customers may elect to verify the torque of the capscrews on D model coaches between the range of, and including, to and E / J model coaches between the range of, and including, to 64953, ensuring optimum coach operation. Service Procedure: General notes Read this entire procedure before beginning work. UseSafeShopPracticesAtAllTimes. Parts Qty. New P/N Description a/r MP Boost Pump Assy, Coolant, S60 Engine, E / J Coach ( reference only ) a/r MP Boost Pump Assy, Coolant, C13 & ISM Engine, E / J Coach ( reference only ) a/r 16L MP Boost Pump Assy, Coolant, S60, C13 & ISM Engine, D Coach (reference only) 1. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Chock both sides of the tires. 2. Open the engine doors. Position the ENGINE RUN and ENGINE START switches on the engine remote box to the OFF position. NOTICE Affected owners of D model coaches perform Step 3. to 14. Affected owners of E / J model coaches perform Step 15. to 28.
2 Service Bulletin No DATE SEPT. 11, 2008 PAGE START OF D COACH PROCEDURE N O T IC E Allow enough time for engine components to cool down prior to working in the engine compartment. 3. Open the rear, side service compartment doors. Locate the center tunnel valves at the rear of the engine compartment above the transmission ( Figure 1 ). Position the center tunnel valves to the closed position. Figure Drain the coolant from the radiator and surge tank into a clean, suitably---sized container. Place container aside to be re---used later. 5. Open the curbside, rear side service compartment. Locate the boost pump, installed in the area behind the the lower lamp assembly cluster ( Figure 2 ). 3 DATE SEPT. 11, 2008 PAGE 3 6. Loosen the hose bandclamps and carefully disconnect hoses from the boost pump. Remove and retain the boost pump mounting hardware. Remove the boost pump and place on a workbench. 7. On a workbench, check the torque of the eight ( 8 ) capscrews used to secure the motor to pump housing at the locations shown in Figure 3: a. If the torque is 27 ft.-lbs, no further action is required for this location, ( proceed to Step 8. ) b. If the torque is less than 27 ft.-lbs, ensure that Loctite 513 thread sealant is applied to the threads and torque capscrews to ft.-lbs. Figure 3. Capscrews used to secure the motor to pump housing. 8. Check the torque of the four ( 4 ) capscrews used to secure the flange fittings at the locations shown in Figure 4: a. If the torque is 23 ft.-lbs, no further action is required for this location, b. If the torque is less than 23 ft.-lbs, ensure that Loctite 513 thread sealant is applied to the threads and torque capscrews to ft.-lbs. Figure 4. Capscrews used to secure the flange fittings.
4 DATE SEPT. 11, 2008 PAGE 4 9. Re-install the boost pump to the mounting plate using the hardware removed in Step Re-connect the hoses to the boost pump. Ensure all bandclamps are properly tightened. 11. Position the center tunnel valves to the open position ( Figure 1 ). 12. With the engine cool and not running, re---fill the coolant ( saved in Step 4. ). 13. Position the ENGINE RUN and ENGINE START switches on the engine remote box to the ON position. Close the curbside, rear side service compartment and engine doors. 14. Start the engine and ensure the engine coolant is at the recommended level. Check for coolant leaks. D Coach Procedure complete.

Locate the engine inspection hatch at the rear of the coach cabin ( Figure 5 ). Remove and retain the mounting hardware and remove the engine inspection hatch. Place mounting hardware and engine inspection hatch aside to be re---installed at a later step in this procedure. Figure 5. Engine inspection hatch removed. 16. Using the engine inspection hatch for access, locate the center tunnel valves installed between the engine inspection hatch and the radiator ( Figure 6 ). Position the center tunnel valves to the closed position. Figure 6. 5
6 Service Bulletin No DATE SEPT. 11, 2008 PAGE 17. Drain the coolant from the radiator and surge tank into a clean, suitably---sized container. Place container aside to be re---used later. 18. Locate the boost pump, installed between the engine inspection hatch and the radiator ( Figures 6 and 8). 19. Loosen the hose bandclamps and carefully disconnect hoses from the boost pump. Remove and retain the boost pump mounting hardware. Remove the boost pump and place on a workbench. 20. On a workbench, check the torque of the eight ( 8 ) capscrews used to secure the motor to pump housing at the locations shown in Figure 7: a. If the torque is 27 ft.-lbs, no further action is required for this location, ( proceed to Step 21. ) b. If the torque is less than 27 ft.-lbs, ensure that Loctite 513 thread sealant is applied to the threads and torque capscrews to ft.-lbs. Figure 7. Position the center tunnel valves to the open position ( Figure 6 ). 25. With the engine cool and not running, re---fill the coolant ( saved in Step17. ). NOTICE Prior to re-installing the engine inspection hatch, ensure that the mounting surfaces are clean and that the hatch seal is undamaged. 26. Using the the mounting hardware removed in Step 15. re-install the engine inspection hatch. 27. Position the ENGINE RUN and ENGINE START switches on the engine remote box to the ON position. Close the engine door. 28. Start engine and ensure that the engine coolant is at the recommended level. Check for coolant leaks. E / J Coach Procedure complete.
