Two Modes: Operating Mode (also called Run Mode) This is the standard running mode of the dispenser that allows the customer to complete a fuel sale transaction. Manager Mode (also called Programming Mode) This mode is used to view or change dispenser configuration data and to view or reset shift and running totals of the dispenser. Dispenser information and data are accessed through Function codes (example Mode F98), which appear in the main dispenser displays. 19 Using the Arming Key Dispenser Basics A fuel sale cannot take place on a disarmed dispenser The arming key is red. It is used to arm or disarm the dispenser. Arm To activate the dispenser side (fueling point) for one fuel sale. Disarm To deactivate the dispenser side if activated (armed). The arming key can be used on both sides of a dispenser. When the dispenser side is armed it will remain armed until fuel has been dispensed, or it is manually disarmed, or 5 minutes have elapsed and the dispenser has not been authorized. When the arming key is held on the keyswitch area, one tone indicates that the dispenser is armed (ready to dispense fuel). The money and volume displays are set to 0.00 and 0.000, respectively. Two tones indicate that the dispenser has been disarmed. There are two options for arming a dispenser permanent and key arming. Permanent arming When set for permanent arming, the dispenser will automatically rearm itself after the completion of each sale. No interaction is required by the attendant. Permanent arming is selected by setting mode F19 to 0 (console operation) or 2 (stand alone operation). Key arming When set for key arming, the arming key must be held to the keyswitch after the completion of a sale before the next sale can begin. Key arming is selected by setting mode F19 to 1 (console operation) or 3 (stand alone operation). Preset amounts can also be sent to the dispenser by the console. Presets are limited by the maximum delivery amount programmed at the dispenser Performing Preset Sales at the Dispenser In order to enable preset sales at the dispenser, Mode F24 must be set to allow presets and the dispenser must be in RUN mode. 1. Press the PRESET keypad button, listen for a beep. 2. Enter the desired preset amount by using the operator interface keypad ($10 = ). 3. Make corrections by using the CLEAR keypad button. 4. Powering Down the Dispenser Dispenser Basics This power down procedure saves all previous dispenser programming. 1. Return all nozzles to their boots. 2. Hold the manager key to the keyswitch area and check for 1's in the displays. If there is a low battery condition or a disconnected battery, 1's will appear. Are there 1's in the display? If NO, the battery is OK. Continue to steps 3 and 4. If YES, contact your authorized service representative. Complete step 3 only and call your authorized service representative. Programmed settings will be lost if you remove AC power after exiting manager mode. 3. Hold the manager key to the keyswitch area again to exit manager mode and return the dispenser to the run mode. 4. Remove AC power going to the dispenser. More than one disconnect switch may be required to remove power. The dispenser will continue to display the last sales data until the time-out period for the battery backup has been reached. The default for the battery backup time 15 minutes. Powering Up the Dispenser 1. Verify that the card cage power supply, options power supply and the MaxVac power supply switches (if applicable) are on. AC POWER Alternating Current power APPROVE A command sent from a console or other fuel point controller allowing a sale to begin. A fueling point remains approved until the nozzle is returned to the nozzle boot on the dispenser. In console operation with key arming, the fueling point must be key-armed before it requests approval. The console sends the approval command to approve the fueling point. In stand-alone operation with no key-arming, the fueling point is approved immediately when a hose is activated. In key-arming operation, the fueling point must be key-armed before a hose can be approved. ARMING See key arming, permanent arming, attendant's key, or manager key. ASR Authorized Service Representative. ATTENDANT S KEY Also referred to as the arming key. The arming key is red. It is used to arm (activate for a fuel sale) or disarm (deactivate) the dispenser side. Premier C Series Dispensers User's Guide Form 5872 Version 1.0 July

41 Glossary B C B3 / B4 / B5 See Variable blender BAD SALE LIMIT Once the dispenser exceeds the dispenser error limit on a sale, the sale is stopped, and the bad sale counter increments by one. When the bad sale counter exceeds the preset limit, the dispenser is stopped and an error code is displayed. BATTERY BACKUP TIME The time the dispenser will remain powered up after the loss of AC power. BLEND RATIO A ratio (generally described in terms of percentages) between two straightgrade products combined to create a blended product. Example: a 60% product 1 and 40% product 2 blend would be expressed as a 60/40 blend ratio. BLENDED PRODUCT Product composed of a percentage (blend ratio) of two grades of fuel. BLENDER DISPENSER Premier C series dispensers that allows the mixing of two grades of fuel to create a mid-range grade. The name of the circuit board which performs all the computer functions for programming and processing fuel sales. CRC Cyclic Redundancy Check. This test verifies that the CPU board is functional. A number derived from a block of data, and stored or transmitted with the data in order to detect any errors in transmission. It is similar to a checksum, but more complicated. A cyclic redundancy check is often calculated by adding words or bytes of the data. The receiving computer recalculates the CRC from the data received and compares it to the value originally transmitted; if the values are not the same, it indicates a transmission error. DEBIT DPT DPT CPU Board used in conjunction with the DPT secure pin pad to provide debit card capability. DECIMAL POINT Manager mode F22 sets the decimal point location in the money, volume, and PPUV displays. DEFAULT A value or condition that is automatically set at system initialization and can be changed if necessary. Premier C Series Dispensers User's Guide Form 5872 Version 1.0 July

43 Glossary D K DISPENSER ERROR LIMIT Limit set in programming that a dispenser can have in any one sale before the sale is stopped. DISPLAY DIAGNOSTICS A function available at the dispenser to check the displays and keypad buttons for proper operation. DPT Dispenser Payment Terminal ELECTRONIC BLENDER (EB) Electronic Blender dispensers blend two straight-grade products at the programmed ratio to produce a mid-octane (blended) product. FUEL BLEND RATIO See Blend Ratio FLEET OPERATION Fuel sales must receive electronic sale authorization from the network before dispensing can begin. KEY ARMING Key arming a dispenser requires a magnetic arming key to be placed on the keyswitch area of the dispenser before a sale can occur. Key arming can be used in both console operation and stand-alone operation. The arming key can be used on both sides of a dispenser. Premier C Series Dispensers User's Guide 5-4 Form 5872 Version 1.0 July 1999

This function will terminate a sale if no pulses are received during the set time out period. OCTANE A property of the fuel product controlling the burning rate. A figure of merit representing the resistance of gasoline to premature detonation when exposed to heat and pressure in the combustion chamber of an internal-combustion engine. OPERATING MODE See Run Mode OPERATOR INTERFACE KEYPAD This keypad is used for data entry, starting and stopping the dispenser, and manager mode programming.
