Every engine is affected by an individual range of factors: humidity, cleaning agents, heat and cold, to name just a few examples. At the same time, the ribbed belt now also plays an increasingly important role in today s cars and vans. The abbreviation EPDM stands for ETHYLENE PROPYLENE DIENE MONOMER, which is a synthetic rubber based on petrochemical raw materials (natural gas and crude oil).

In order to be able to achieve this ambitious threshold value, the development of a belt-driven starter generator (BSG), which combines the function of starter and generator, is a new milestone in the automotive sector. The new trend in the automotive market has many strengths. Unlike the long-since familiar automatic start-stop system, the new generations have added the function of boosting and recuperating. If the engine switches off automatically when the vehicle stops, only to start up again the next time you put your foot on the gas pedal, then the belt-driven starter generator (BSG) takes the strain off the combustion engine when starting up and gives the vehicle an extra boost of acceleration. When freewheeling, on the other hand, energy is recovered and stored in the battery with a much higher degree of efficiency than the conventional alternator. And the performance limit has not yet been reached: the latest generation of BSGs works on a voltage level of 48 V, which enables outputs in the range of 10 to 15 kw and thus further reduces fuel consumption for instance by start-stop phases or by relieving the combustion engine during stop-and-go traffic.
