3 Warning Labels In an effort to reduce injury, warning labels have been placed at various lo cations on the conveyor. Please check for and note all labels. Make sure personnel are alerted to and follow warning labels. Placed on removable chain guard. Placed near the drive. Placed both sides near the head and tail. Placed at a maximum of 20 feet both sides. Placed inside of chain guard. 3

4 Receiving & Uncrating 1) Examine condition of equipment to determine if any damage occurred during shipment or any parts are missing. Notify carrier immediately concerning damaged or missing parts. 2) This product is normally shipped as: - One section if 11 feet or less - Two or more sections if longer than 11 feet (1) Head/drive section (1) Tail section (_) Intermediate sections if required (1) Infeed if included with incline conveyor (1) Noseover if included with incline conveyor - Belt is prelaced ready for installation 3) Unpack product at area of assembly. 4

5 Installation Saftey If this product is interfaced with other conveyors, machinery, or equipment precautions must be taken. Placing the head section close to other conveyors or equipment may cause a hazardous pinch point. This type of installation requires a pop-out roller and bracket assembly. This helps to protect personnel from entangling limbs between the power conveyor and other pieces of equipment. Pop-out roller and bracket assembly Contact an Ashland Conveyor Products' representative to select the correct pop-out roller and bracket assembly. 5

6 Assembly 1) Determine direction of product flow. 2) Preassemble floor supports. 3) Attach floor supports to both ends of drive section, and at one end of in ter me diate section and/or tail sections. Hand tighten bolts. 4) Attach butt plate connector if conveyor has multiple sections. 5) Adjust floor support height to obtain desired conveyor height, allow for belt thickness. 7 Set-Up 1) Check that the conveyor is level & straight. Use surveyor s line (string) to check straightness. 2) Tighten all connector plates, floor supports, and lag to floor. 3) Install electrical controls if necessary and wire. Note voltage and phase of motor. Wiring and controls shall conform to National Electric Code and any appli cable OSHA requirements. Lubrication Bearings Bearings are supplied, sealed, and lubricated. Bearings should be lubricated approximately every 3-12 months. Over lubrication is a major cause of bearing failure. Lubricate with lithium based #2 grease. Chain The chain should be lubricated every 50 to 100 hours. Lubricate before chain becomes dry. A light oil lubricant is recommended. Reducer The reducer is shipped pre lubricated. Refer to manufactures recommendation. 7

8 Belt Installation 1) The belt has been cut to the correct length and laced. 2) Thread belt through conveyor as shown, for standard PVC belt smooth side up. RB190 & SB350 RBI190 & SBI350 Incline 3) Pull belt ends together and insert lacing pin. If belt ends cannot be pulled to gether by hand, loosen take-up and/or use a belt puller. 4) Adjust belt tension with take-up/tail pulley or take-up pulley at center drive. Keep pulley square to con veyor. Maintain enough tension so belt does not slip on drive pulley when loaded. Belt should conform to crowns on pulleys. Over tensioning will in crease belt wear. 8

9 Belt Tracking 1) The belt is tracked properly by adjusting the Snub Rollers and Return Rollers. The same technique is used for incline conveyor and center drives as well. Ad just the snub roller nearest the tracking problem area. 2) Before starting or attempting to track the belt: Make adjustments with conveyor off and power locked out Make sure the conveyor is straight along the length Make sure Drive & Tail Pulleys are square with conveyor belt Make sure Snub and Return Rollers are square with conveyor belt Make sure belt has been properly installed Make sure the belt lacing has been installed correctly Square Tail Pulley Square Snub Roller Tail Section Square Snub Roller Square Head Pulley Head Section 9

11 3) When belt tracking adjustments are made they should be in 1/16 increments. Give the belt adequate time to react to the adjustments. 4) Stand behind the Tail Pulley, facing the direction of travel, and observe how the belt tracks. For the following tracking problems make the noted adjustments: Belt drifts towards right side: Adjust left end of Tail Snub Roller away from the Tail Pulley. Belt drifts towards left side: Adjust right end of Tail Snub Roller away from the Tail Pulley. Product Flow Tail Pulley Head Pulley Left Side Snub Roller Right Side Chain Tension/Alignment 1) Make sure all power has been disconnected and locked out according to OSHA guidelines. 2) Remove chain guard. 3) Check sprocket alignment by placing straight edge along face of sprockets, adjust if necessary by loosening set screws. 4) To adjust chain tension loosen drive base bolts. Use tensioning bolt to in crease or decrease chain tension. Retighten bolts. Amount of hanging slack should be about 1/4. 5) Lubricate chain with light oil if dry. 6) Reinstall guard. 11

Drive chain & sprockets wear excessively. 1) Lack of lubrication. 2) Poor alignment. 3) Loose chain. 1) Replace chain and sprockets, provide lubrication. 2) Align sprockets. 3) Tighten chain correctly. Motor or reducer over heating. Belt will not move but drive is running. 1) Conveyor overloaded. 2) Low voltage to motor. 3) Low lubricant in reducer. 1) Conveyor overloaded 2) Belt is too loose 3) Lagging on drive pulley is too worn. 1) Reduce load. 2) Have electrician check as necessary. 3) Lubricate per manufacturers rec ommendations. 1) Reduce load. 2) Tighten belt with belt take-up. 3) Replace drive pulley. 12
