9 Item Description Inspection EMPENNAGE: 18. HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL, STABILATOR BACKLASH Not allowed. To check the stabilator for horizontal and vertical blacklash, proceed as follows: 1. Acting on the tip of the left or right half stabilator, lightly shake the half stabilator longitudinally, up and down and along its hinge bearings axis and check for absence of backlash. Repeat above check for the other remaining half stabilator. 19. STABILATOR TRIM TAB HINGES Check condition. 20. STABILATOR ADDITIONAL MASS BALANCE WEIGHTS (If applicable) Check security of attachment. 21. STABILATOR TRIM TAB CONTROL RODS Check for damage, deformation or corrosion. 22. Referring to section D of the aircraft Maintenance Manual, place the stabilator to its neutral position and stabilator trim tab to its min. down position; 2. Holding firm the stabilator in the neutral position, apply a light force toward the top at about mid span of the stabilator trim tab trailing edge and check for absence of backlash (The perception of a backlash indicates the presence of a free play). If a backlash is perceived: Holding firm the stabilator, measure and record the mismatch existing between the stabilator and the stabilator trim tab at trailing edge in both extreme position of stabilator trim tab during its backlash (applying light force) the difference of two recorded values must be no greater than 0.1 in. (2.54 mm). NOTE: Any damage found during the above mentioned inspections, must be relayed to Partenavia. Repairs of damage not requiring specific engineering, may be accomplished by standard methods; in all other cases, the relevant Partenavia approved repair scheme must be followed. 23. STABILATOR TORQUE TUBE Check for slipping between the torque horn and Stabilator torque tube. 1) Check the bolts AN4-17A are torqued to 75 in.lbs (see figure 1). 2) Sign reference line on the nuts by using a paint. 3) Remove the safety screw by visually checking this one for absence of scoring (see figure). In absence of damage, reinstall the safety screw as previously. In presence of scoring, replace the safety screw with same one and advise PARTENAVIA on the inspection result. 4) Secure the safety screw by using a locking wire.
