14 ENGINE POWER LOSS IN FLIGHT If at low altitude: Airspeed Prepare for power off landing MAINTAIN 83 KIAS Minimum If altitude permits: Fuel Selector Alternate Air Engine Gauges SWITCH to TANK CTAINING FUEL RICH OPEN CHECK for INDICATI of CAUSE of POWER LOSS If no fuel pressure is indicated, tank selector position to be sure it is on a tank containing fuel. When Power is Restored: Alternate Air If power is not restored, prepare for power off landing. CLOSE adjust as necessary POWER LANDING - Trim for 83 KIAS - Locate suitable field - Establish spiral pattern ft. above field at downwind position for normal landing - When field can easily be reached extend full flaps for shortest landing - Touchdowns should be made at lowest possible airspeed with full flaps. When committed to landing: Landing Gear Selector Magnetos Alternator Switch Fuel Selector Seat Belts and Harness Cabin doors DOWN AS DESIRED CLOSE IDLE CUT- tight unlatch and open NOTE: If master switch is, the landing gear cannot be retracted.
15 FIRE IN FLIGHT Source of Fire Electrical Fire (Smoke in Cabin) Alternator Switch Vents Cabin Heat Land as soon as practicable Engine Fire Fuel Selector Heater and defroster Proceed with POWER LANDING procedure CHECK OPEN CLOSED IDLE CUT- CHECK LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE - Land as soon as possible and investigate cause - Prepare of power off landing LOSS OF FUEL FLOW Fuel Selector on tank containing usable fuel Land as soon as practicable ENGINE DRIVEN FUEL PUMP FAILURE retard reset as required CAUTI: if normal engine operation and fuel flow is not immediately reestablished, the electric fuel pump should be turned. The lack of a fuel flow indication while the electric fuel pump is on could indicate a leak in the fuel system or fuel exhaustion. If fuel system leak is verified, switch fuel selector to off.
16 HIGH OIL TEMPERATURE - Land at nearest airport and investigate the problem - Prepare for power off landing ELECTRICAL FAILURES ALT annunciator is illuminated Ammeter If Ammeter shows Zero: ALT Switch Reduce electrical load to minimum ALT circuit breaker ALT Switch If power not restored ALT Switch to verify inop alt and reset as required If alternator output cannot be restored, reduce electrical loads and land as soon as practical. The battery is the only remaining source of electrical power. ELECTRICAL OVERLOAD (ALTERNATOR OVER 20 AMPS ABOVE KNOWN ELECTRICAL LOAD) ALT Switch BAT Switch If alternator loads are reduced Electrical load reduce to minimum Land as soon as practical If alternator loads are not reduced ALT Switch BAT Switch as required Land as soon as practical. Anticipate complete electrical failure.
17 PROPELLER OVERSPEED Oil Pressure Propeller Control Airspeed RETARD CHECK FULL DECREASE RPM then SET if any CTROL AVAILABLE REDUCE AS REQUIRED to REMAIN BELOW 2700 RPM EMERGENCY LANDING GEAR EXTENTI Prior to emergency extension procedure: ALTR Switch Circuit Breakers Day/Night dimming switch (in daytime) Gear Indicator Bulbs CHECK CHECK CHECK day by depressing Annunc. test If landing gear does NOT down and locked: Airspeed Landing Gear Selector Switch REDUCE BELOW 90 KIAS GEAR DOWN POSITI If landing gear still does not down and locked: Emergency Gear knob PULL, while fish tailing airplane (under normal conditions will take approx. 10 seconds to be down and locked) If all electrical power has been lost, the landing gear must be extended using the above procedures. The gear position indicator lights will not illuminate SPIN RECOVERY Rudder Control Wheel Ailerons FULL OPPOSITE to DIRECTI of ROTATI FULL FORWARD NEUTRAL IDLE When rotation stops: Rudder Control Wheel NEUTRAL REGAIN LEVEL FLIGHT ATTITUDE AS REQUIRED
18 OPEN DOOR Airspeed Cabin Vents Storm Window If door latch is open If Side Latch Open REDUCE TO 90 KIAS CLOSE OPEN LATCH PULL on ARMREST while Latching ENGINE ROUGHNESS Alternate Air Fuel Selector Engine Gauges Magneto Switch ADJUST for maximum smoothness OPEN SWITCH TANKS CHECK and proceed accordingly L then R, then BOTH If operation is satisfactory on either one, continue on that magneto at reduced power, with full RICH mixture, to a landing at the first available airport. If roughness persists, prepare for a precautionary landing. LOSS OF ENGINE DRIVEN VACUUM (SUCTI) PUMP If vacuum pressure falls below 4.8 In. Hg. (and/or VAC annunciator) Auxiliary Vacuum Switch Verify vacuum system suction 4.8 to 5.2 In. Hg. Compass error may exceed 10 Monitor electrical load. If required turn off non essential electrical equipment Land at the earliest opportunity to have primary system repaired
