SAFETY 1.01 General safety notes The operator of the machine is responsible for, and has a duty of care in making sure that the machine is operated safely and in accordance with the instructions in this user manual. Keep the manual safe and pass it on if the machine is loaned or sold to another user Please note the following safety points The machine should never be left it in a condition which would allow an untrained or unauthorised person/s to operate this machine All due care and diligence should be taken by the operator for the safety of, and with regard to those around whilst using the machine Some or all of the following - warning signs, symbols and/or PPE pictograms may appear throughout this manual. You MUST adhere to their warnings. Failure to do so may result in personal injury to yourself or those around you. DANGER Indicates a hazard, which, if not avoided, could result in serious injury or death. WARNING Indicates a hazard, which, if not avoided, could result in serious injury. CAUTION Indicates a hazard which, if not avoided, might result in minor or moderate injury. NOTE Indicates a situation that could easily result in equipment damage. READ and keep the manual safe and pass it on if the machine is loaned or sold to another user. You MUST fully read instructions to make sure you use and operate machine safely. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), MUST be worn at all times when machine is in use or being repaired. 3

4 1.10 Carbon monoxide (where applicable) Carbon monoxide is a colourless and odourless gas. Inhaling this gas can cause death as well as serious long term health problems such as brain damage The symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning can include but are not limited to the following; Headaches, dizziness, nausea, breathlessness, collapsing or loss of consciousness Carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms are similar to flu, food poisoning, viral infections and simply tiredness. It is quite common for people to mistake this very dangerous poisoning for something else To avoid carbon monoxide poisoning DO NOT use Petrol/Diesel powered equipment inside any of the following; Home, garage, tent, camper van, mobile home, caravan or boat. This list is not exhaustive and if you are in any doubt contact your dealer If you think you have or someone around you has been affected by carbon monoxide poisoning; 1.16 Get them fresh air immediately, by leaving the affected area or by opening doors and windows. If safe and practical to do so make sure that the machine is turned off. DO NOT enter a room you suspect of having carbon monoxide present instead call the emergency services Contact a doctor immediately or go to hospital - let them know that you suspect carbon monoxide poisoning DO NOT use in an enclosed area or a moving vehicle 1.20 General fuel safety (where applicable). CAUTION ALL FUELS ARE FLAMMABLE 1.21 Fire hazard - keep fuel away from all sources of ignition for example heaters, lamps, sparks from grinding or welding DO NOT carry out hot work on tanks that have contained fuel it is extremely dangerous ALWAYS keep work area clean and tidy ALWAYS clean up all spills promptly using correct methods i.e. absorbent granules and a lidded bin ALWAYS dispose of waste fuels correctly. 4

5 1.30 Fueling/De-fueling (where applicable). CAUTION ALL FUELS ARE FLAMMABLE 1.31 ALWAYS fuel and defuel in a well-ventilated area outside of buildings ALWAYS wear correct, suitable and fit for purpose Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), suggested items are but not limited to safety gloves and overalls When fueling/de-fueling ALWAYS avoid inhaling fumes When de-fueling ALWAYS use a propriety fuel retriever ALWAYS carry fuel in the correct and clearly marked container Electrical safety (where applicable) Electricity can kill - NEVER work on LIVE/ENERGISED equipment Prior to carrying out any maintenance work you MUST Identify electrical isolation methods and isolate all electrical supplies, 1.43 Prior to use and with all electrical supplies isolated You MUST check all electrical cables, plugs and connections for the following; 1.44 Are intact and have no signs of damage, to include but not limited to bare wires, chaffing, cuts and loose wiring If there are any signs of damage, the damaged item MUST be taken out of service until the damage has been repaired by an electrically competent person All trailing cables should be routed so as not to cause any kind of trip hazard NEVER work on or near electricity with wet hands, wet clothing, and wet gloves. 5

6 1.50 Batteries (where present) Batteries present a risk if they become damaged by the possible leaking of electrolyte. This electrolyte is an acid and can cause serious burn injuries. Care should be taken when working on or near them. NOTE the electrolyte may be in liquid or gel form Should you come into contact with electrolyte you should; 1.53 Remove all clothing contaminated with electrolyte. If you cannot remove then saturate in water Get medical assistance as soon as possible. You must advise the medical staff of the type acid Lead/acid battery = dilute sulphuric acid 1.56 Nickel/cadmium = potassium hydroxide alkali electrolyte Use fresh running water to wash off excess electrolyte, continue this until medical assistance arrives. Make sure that you do not wash the electrolyte to another part of the face or body If electrolyte comes into contact with Eyes the electrolyte needs to be immediately washed away with large amounts of water. Make sure that you do not wash the electrolyte to another part of the face or body Gasses from charging batteries are highly flammable and great care should be taken to charge in well ventilated areas There is an explosion risk if the battery terminals are short circuited, when connecting / 0dis-connecting ALWAYS exercise great care so that the terminals or battery leads are NOT allowed to touch and cause a spark. ALWAYS use suitable insulated tools Vibrations (where applicable) Prolonged use of hand held (operated) machines will cause the user to feel the effects of/from vibrations. These vibrations can lead to white finger (Raynaud s phenomenon) or carpal tunnel syndrome. This condition reduces the ability of the hand to feel and regulate temperature, causing numbness and heat sensations and may cause nerve damage and circulatory tissue death Not all factors that lead to white finger disease are known, but cold weather, smoking and other diseases that affect blood vessels and blood circulation as well as large and long-lasting impact of shocks are considered factors in the formation of white finger. Note the following to reduce the risk the white finger and carpal tunnel syndrome: 1.63 Wear gloves and keep your hands warm 1.64 Take regular breaks 1.65 All of the above precautions may help reduce the risk of white finger disease but not rule out carpal tunnel syndrome. Long-term and regular users are therefore recommended to observe the condition of your hands and fingers. Seek medical attention immediately if any of the above symptoms should occur. 6

7 1.70 Noise (where applicable) The operating noise of the machine can damage your hearing. Wear hearing protection such as earplugs or ear defenders to protect your hearing. Long- term and regular users are advised to have hearing checked regularly. Be especially vigilant and cautious when wearing hearing protection because your ability to hear alarm warnings will be reduced Noise emissions for this equipment is unavoidable. Carry out noisy work at approved times and for certain periods. Limit the working time to a minimum. For your personal protection and protection of people working nearby it is also advisable for them to wear hearing protection See CERTIFICATE of CONFORMITY section for Outdoor Noise declaration of conformity Machine specific safety Working with the chipper - The chipper is designed solely for chipping all kinds of newly cut tree branches of diameters up to 100 mm for HYCH1500E-2 or 70mm for HYCH7070[E] Usage restrictions You should NOT use the chipper for chipping metal, stones, and plastics and other hard materials that may damage your machine. If you are going to chip tree roots check that the diameter is less than 70 / 100mm and remove all earth, sand, stones etc After the first hour s use check that the bolts of the blades and counter blade are firm ly fixed and that the gap between blades and counter blade is 1-2mm adjust as required. 1.A Description of machine - This chipper is a machine for chipping newly cut wood. 1.A1 The rotor has 2 blades each with a 300 mm width and is powered by a petrol engine. Transmission is through two parallel drive belts. The chips of wood are discharged through the discharge chute by the centrifugal force of the rotor. Because of the angle of the blades and the positioning of the counter blade branches are pulled inside the machine automatically. Side branches greater than 30mm should be sawn off before loading into machine. 7

8 1.B Safety notes. 1.B1 The user of this machine MUST be over 18 years of age. 1.B2 The machine should be positioned on a firm and level surface. 1.B3 The user MUST wear safety gloves, ear-protection and safety goggles - not supplied with machine. 1.B4 When working in a confined area, always make sure there is sufficient space around the machine to reduce the risk of injury and there is good ventilation from exhaust fumes. 1.B5 Only one person at a time should operate the machine. 1.B6 Pieces jamming the feed hopper can only be removed safely when the engine has been stopped and the spark plug HT lead disconnected. 1.B7 If necessary, unbolt and tip the feed hopper and output chute to facilitate access to the rotor. Use a wooden pole to remove pieces stuck in the rotor. NEVER under any circumstances use your hands to remove stuck wood. 1.B8 NEVER leave the machine running whilst unattended. 1.B9 Changing the blades of the rotor or the counter blade and checking blade bolts should only be done when the engine and rotor are stopped and the spark plug HT lead is disconnected. 1.B11 Use only original parts for maintaining your chipper, otherwise the warranty will be void. 1.B12 The chipper should ONLY be repaired by a skilled dealer / service-point. 1.B13 When in operation the chipper s noise will exceed 90 db (A). Therefore all users and onlookers must wear ear-protection. 1.B14 Before use, make sure that the bolts on the blade and fixed blade are tight. After the first one hour of use check that all nuts, bolts and fixing are still secure. 8

9 This series of highly efficient wood chippers have been designed with safety protection, reliability and long operating life in mind. Main body parts are all made from high quality steel, blades are made from high speed steel HSS, sharp cutting edges from hardened steel for durability and efficiency. The machine consists of main body 1, Feed hopper 9, discharge chute 10, wheels 2, front leg 4, please see diagram. The chipping cylinder, belt drive and engine are all mounted to the main body. Operating instructions and warnings Please read carefully and understand the engine instruction manual before use. The engine is shipped from factory without lubricant and fuel. The HYCH1500E-2 requires 1.1L of 10w30 or 15w40 engine oil and the HYCH7070[E]-2 requires 0.6L of 10w30 or 15w40 engine oil. On initial start-up, run the machine for 5 minutes without feeding any wood into it to warm the engine up and allow the belts to bed in. Do not overload the machine by forcing too much or too large diameter wood into the hopper. Keep minors away from the machine. Do not put hands or other body parts into hopper. Do not get close to the discharge chute, the chips are expelled from discharge chute at high speed and may cause injury. If the machine produces abnormal vibration or unusual noises, immediately turn the machine off and check it. If the machine is failing to cut properly the blades may need to sharpened or adjusted, the blade clearance should be 1-2mm. Choice of chipping material: Fresh cut tree branches can be chipped directly. Due to different hardness and moisture content, the engine may slow midway or the machine body may shake during chipping, if this happens, reduce the amount of wood being fed into the hopper. The recommended maximum chipping capacity is for soft wood, for hardwood the maximum chipping diameter should be reduced by 30%. The ideal chipping for this machine is suitable for fresh cut with 80% moisture content plant. During the chipping process, you should obey the rule: largest diameter first followed by the smaller branches. In order to get good chipping, it s better to put branches and leaves together. Leaves and thin vegetation may not chip well. Do not feed in large diameter logs. Maintenance instructions This series of machine requires regular greasing of the main cutting shaft bearings. See section 7. for full maintenance instructions 9

10 Assembly. 2. ASSEMBLY During assembly, to avoid injury, do not touch the rotary cutting wheel or blades. As the machine is heavy, it is recommended that the assembly is a two person operation. Frame assembly HYCH1500E-2 Part No Description Main Wheel Axle Front Towbar Towbar Towbar body bracket Leg bracket bolt Installation procedure: Lay the main body (1) on a support or platform that is about 30cm above the ground, and leave some space at the sides of the main body for the installation of the wheels (2) and front leg (4), as shown in the picture above, fix the wheels (2) with suitable fasteners to axle bracket (3), then fix the finished structure to main body (1). Install towbar bracket (5) to the corresponding position on the main body, and then connect and fix front leg (4) and towbar bracket (5) and mount tow bar (6) and towbar bolt (7). After this process is complete, the support or platform can be removed. 10

Then bolt the feed hopper (9) to the main body (1), due to the heavy weight, use a lifting device or 2-3 people. Bolt the lower section of the discharge chute to the main body, then connect and fix the upper rotating section of the discharge chute (11) to the lower section (10). The upper section can be rotated to allow the wood chippings to be discharged in the direction required. 11

Installation of 12v Battery and Toolkit HYCH1500E-2 Part No Description Battery Cover Battery tray Toolkit Toolkit strap Installation procedure: Using the bolts supplied, fix the battery tray (13) to the corresponding place on the main body (1), and connect the battery terminals with starter motor positive and negative cables, taking care not to short the positive to earth, and then place the battery on the battery tray (13), place the battery cover over the battery and secure with the bolts provided. Place the toolkit on corresponding bracket, connecting one end of the toolkit strap to the retaining ring on the main body (1), while the other end is attached to the anchor point on the towbar bracket. 12

Install front leg (4) to the corresponding position on the main body and mount hand bar (17) to the front leg (4). After the installation is complete, the support platform can be removed. 13

Then bolt the feed hopper (9) to the main body (1), due to the heavy weight, use a lifting device or 2-3 people. Bolt the lower section of the discharge chute to the main body, then connect and fix the upper rotating section of the discharge chute (11) to the lower section (10). The upper section can be rotated to allow the wood chippings to be discharged in the direction required. 14

HYCH does not have electric start, so no battery to be fitted* Part No Description Battery cover Battery holder Toolkit Safety switch Electric start switch* Installment steps: Fix the battery tray (13) to the corresponding place on the main body (1) with the bolts provided and connect the battery terminals to the positive and negative starter motor cables, taking care not to short out the positive to earth, then place the battery on the battery tray (13), place the battery cover over the battery and secure with the bolts provided. Place the toolkit on the handrail and bolt it securely. Finally, unscrew the 2 nuts on the tank as is shown with mark C on the illustration to create a 3-4 mm gap to allow the electric start switch (17) to be inserted, and then re-tighten the nuts. 15

QUICK START You can also check out our online video at This guide is meant to serve as a quick reference for operating your Hyundai Wood chipper it is for convenience and the user should read the safety section first. FOR OUTDOOR USE ONLY. This Wood chipper produces carbon monoxide - a poisonous, colourless & odourless gas that can cause death or serious injury. Petrol is highly flammable, always handle with extreme care and in a well ventilated area. Always remove HT lead from spark plug when checking machine or changing parts Adding fuel. Unscrew the fuel tank filler cap and carefully add fresh straight unleaded petrol DO NOT overfill and allow a 25 mm gap at the top of the tank. Once full replace and correctly tighten the fuel cap. Fuel tank capacity is 6.5L for 420cc engine and 3.6L for 210cc engine ONLY USE straight unleaded petrol. 16

17 3.03 Adding oil. Unscrew the oil filler cap (dipstick) and fill with 1100ml for 420cc engine and 600mb for 210cc engine of SAE15W40 oil fill to the top thread of the filler neck. N.B. There may be residual oil in crankcase so be careful not to overfill when filling with oil. If you overfill with oil just pour excess oil into a suitable container. DO NOT dispose of oil down drains or onto the ground. 17

18 4. STARTING PROCEDURE Before starting make sure machine is clear of materials and all non-essential persons. NOTE: The machine is shipped without oil, therefore you MUST fill the engine with oil before starting the engine. Failure to do so will result in engine damage which will not be covered by warranty. Fill with SAE15W40 oil and fresh unleaded petrol. Make sure the fuel and oil caps are secure See section Recoil starting procedure. Set the ignition key switch on the key start module to the ON position or for recoil only machines, switch to ON. Check that the emergency STOP bar is not jammed in the STOP (down) position. It should be up to start. 18

19 4.10 (cont) For COLD start move choke lever left to START position (LEFT) Move the fuel tap right to the ON position (RIGHT). Move the throttle lever right to the MIDDLE position. N.B. For a WARM/HOT start you will not need to use full choke. If the engine is warm, use half choke. If the engine is hot, do not use the choke. (Lever in RIGHT position) COLD start refers to an engine that has not been run recently, hence the engine is cold. Place one hand on the machine, and using the other hand pull the recoil until you feel a resistance, then pull briskly. Repeat until machine starts. DO NOT let go of the recoil handle instead return handle slowly. When the engine has started you need to reduce the choke by slowly moving lever to the right to the RUN position if engine falters move choke between START/RUN positions and adjust until engine runs smoothly. 19

20 4.01 (cont) Once the engine has been started and allowed to warm up you can move the throttle lever to left accelerate the engine speed Electric start procedure (Where fitted) Set the ignition key switch on the key start module to the ON position. 20

21 4.02 (Cont) For COLD start move choke lever left to START position. Move the fuel tap right to the ON position (RIGHT). Move the throttle lever right to the MIDDLE position. N.B. For a WARM/HOT start you will not need to use full choke. If the engine is warm, use half choke. If the engine is hot, do not use the choke. (Lever in RIGHT position) COLD start refers to an engine that has not been run recently, hence the engine is cold. Turn the keyswitch clockwise against spring tension to START position until engine starts, at each attempt to start DO NOT operate the ignition key for longer than 5 seconds if the keyswitch is operated for longer than 5 seconds the starter motor will over heat and cause damage. Let the key switch return to RUN position. N.B. Wait 10 seconds before attempting to start again. 21

22 4.02 (cont) Once the engine has been started, release key to run position. When engine has warmed up you can move the throttle lever to left to run the engine at FAST speed. 22

23 5. STOPPING PROCEDURE 5.01 Before stopping the machine allow the engine to cool down for a few minutes, by allowing it to run with throttle in slow position You MUST allow the cutting head to come to a full stop and switch engine OFF before carrying out any maintenance on the machine To stop the machine. Allow the machine to cool down with the throttle at idle. Turn the ignition key switch anti-clockwise to the OFF position. Turn the fuel tap left to the OFF position EMERGENCY STOPPING. To STOP the machine in an emergency press the Safety bar down. 23

24 6. USING THE MACHINE WARNING You MUST STOP using the machine if any of the following occur. The engine speed changes with no control. In case of misfire or unusual noise. In case of high vibration. If bels are slipping. In rain or stormy weather. CAUTION If you are not familiar with this type of machine you should seek advice and guidance from your dealer. DO NOT attempt to lift or move the machine while the engine is running Machine use Position the machine in such a way that it cannot move during use DO NOT overload the machine. Use the correct machine for your application. The correct machine will do the job better and safer at the rate for which it is designed DO NOT change the engine governor settings or increase the maximum engine speed. The governor controls the maximum safe operating speed of the engine DO NOT run the engine at a high speed when you are not using it DO NOT put hands or feet near rotating parts. DANGER 24

25 DANGER 6.70 This machine has two rotating cutting knives capable of amputating hands and feet and throwing objects. AT ALL TIMES you MUST keep hands and feet clear of all openings while machine is running. Failure to observe these safety instructions could result in serious injury or death Avoid contact with fuel, oil, exhaust fumes and hot surfaces DO NOT touch or allow clothing and other flammable materials to come into contact with the engine or muffler. These parts get extremely hot from operation. They remain hot for a short time after you turn off the unit. Allow the engine to cool before doing maintenance or making adjustments If the machine should start to make an unusual noise or vibration, immediately shut off the engine, disconnect the spark plug HT lead, and check for the cause. Unusual noise or vibration is generally a warning of trouble. You MUST find the source of the problem and fix it before reusing the machine Use only attachments and accessories approved by the manufacturer. Failure to do so can result in personal injury, and may invalidate any warranty Maintain the machine and check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, broken parts and any other condition that may affect the machine s operation. If damaged, have the machine repaired before reuse Keep the engine, exhaust and muffler free of grass, leaves, wood chips, excessive grease or carbon build up to reduce the chance of a fire hazard NEVER pour or squirt the unit with water or any other liquid. Keep handles dry, clean and free from debris. Clean the machine after each use DO NOT allow persons unfamiliar with the machine or these instructions to operate it. This machine can be extremely is dangerous in the hands of untrained users. 25

26 6.80 Work area Thoroughly inspect the area to be worked, keep the working area clean and free of debris to prevent tripping. Operate on flat level ground NEVER place any part of your body where it would be in danger if movement should occur during assembly, installation, operation, maintenance, repairing or moving Keep all bystanders, children and pets at least 23m (75 feet) away. If you are approached, stop the unit immediately The operator or user is responsible for preventing accidents or hazards occurring to other people, their property and themselves Start the engine carefully according to instructions Before starting the wood chipper, make sure the feed hopper and cutting housing are empty and free of all debris NEVER place your hands, feet, or any part of your body in the chipper hopper, discharge opening, or near or under any moving part while the machine is running. Keep area of discharge clear of people, animals, buildings, glass, or anything else that will obstruct clear discharge, causing injury or damage. Wind can also change discharge direction, so be aware. If it becomes necessary to push materials to the chipper hopper, use a small diameter stick, not your hands NEVER allow an accumulation of processed material to build up in the discharge area as this will prevent proper discharge and can result in kickback from the chipper hopper Keep your face and body back from the chipper hopper and discharge chute to avoid accidental bounce back of any material. 6.A NEVER reach with your hands inside the feed hopper past the rubber flap while operating the machine. 6.B NEVER attempt to unclog either the feed hopper or discharge chute while the engine is running. Immediately shut off the engine. Allow the cutting disk to come to a complete stop. Remove the clogged material. Inspect for damage and check for any loose parts for repair or replacement. 6.C Whenever you leave the operating position or if you have to remove processed material, leaves or debris from the machine, You MUST always shut down the engine, disconnect spark plug HT from the spark plug to prevent accidental starting,and wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop. 6.D DO NOT tilt the machine while the engine is running. 6.E ALWAYS stop the engine before moving the machine. 6.F ALWAYS make sure that the engine is switched off and that the cutting disk and engine are at a complete standstill and the belt drive is disengaged before opening the cutting disk housing. 6.G You MUST keep all combustible materials and substances away from the engine when it is hot. 6.H NEVER cover the machine while the muffler is still hot. 26

27 6.I Feed only clean materials into the machine. Foreign matter like soil, sand, grit, stones, pieces of metal, etc. will damage the sharp edge of the cutting knives. Root balls and dead wood will also blunt the blades quickly. Avoid feeding any flax or roots into the machine as these stringy materials can wrap around the rotor shaft and work their way into the bearings. 6.J Avoid feeding short, stubby pieces of wood into the machine, as they tend to bounce and spin in the feed hopper. Feed these short pieces together with longer pieces. After becoming familiar with the machine, prune to suit its capabilities. 6.K DO NOT force the branches into this machine. Allow the machine to automatically feed through. 6.L NEVER operate the machine on slopes. 6.M DO NOT alter or adjust any part of the wood chipper or its engine that is sealed by the manufacturer or distributor. Only a qualified service technician may adjust parts that may increase or decrease governed engine speed. 6.N This wood chipper is for off-road use only. NEVER attempt to tow the machine on public highways, roads, or thoroughfares. 6.O NEVER operate this machine without feed hopper or discharge chute properly attached to the machine. 6.P Move the machine at least 3m away from the refueling point before starting engine. 6.Q ALWAYS check the oil level of the engine before use. 6.R Inspect that all nuts and bolts are tight and well connected to ensure the safety and reliability of this machine prior to any operation. 6.S Inspect the air pressure in the tyres prior to use and pay attention to sharp objects when moving the machine to prevent the tyres from being pierced. 27

28 6.90 Operating the machine After engine warms up, move the throttle lever left to the FAST position to accelerate engine The wood chipper can process a wide variety of dry or green organic materials such as branch, pruning, stalks, vines, leaves, roots, and vegetable matter. The maximum capacity is 100 mm for HYCH1500E-2 or 70mm for HYCH7070[E]-2 diameter branches, depending on the type and hardness of wood. Rotate the branch as you feed it into the machine will improve performance Feed limbs or branches through butt end first, leaving the bushy head on. This helps guide the limb down the feed hopper, and reduces spinning and bouncing of small pieces back up the feed hopper. Some side branches may require pre-cutting so that the branch will self-feed more efficiently. 28

29 6.94 It is always advisable to process freshly cut materials, as wooden branches get very hard and springy when dried out and become more awkward to handle by making the knives blunt more quickly While operating the machine keep a wooden stick handy, approximately 30mm diameter x 600mm long. This stick will be useful to push in short, brushy and very leafy materials and keep the feed hopper clear DO NOT force material into the machine. If it does not chip well, the chipper knives may need sharpening or replacing, or the gap between the knives and the wear plate needs adjusting Donot to overload the machine by feeding too much material into the feed hopper at one time. If you hear the speed of engine decreasing, immediately stop feeding material into the machine. DO NOT resume feeding material into the machine until the engine has returned to full speed The wood chipper can clog up with soft, wet or fibrous materials. However, if you feed soft materials intermittently with branches, there should be no problem, as the wood chipper tends to clean out any residue left in the machine If any stringy material becomes wrapped around the rotor shaft. Turn off the engine s power switch and wait until the cutting disk is completely stopped and the belt drive is disengaged then remove the spark plug HT lead, then you can remove it before it works its way into the bearing. Take care of the sharp blades. 6.A Should the wood chipper stall through overloading or clogging, turn the ignition start switch to the OFF positon, wait until the cutting disk is completely stopped and the belt drive is disengaged. Allow the engine to stop and remove its spark plug H.T cap. Open the housing cover to clear and remove all the materials from the housing Lock the housing cover, reinstall the spark plug H.T cap and start the machine again to resume the operation. 29

30 6.B Blockage removal - To remove blockages DO NOT under any circumstances use your hands. STOP and disable the machine then undo chutes. Remove the main shaft cover by undoing the two cover securing bolts, using a spanner (or adjustable wrench as shown) rotate blades in both directions until machine if free of materials which have become stuck. 6.C As the discharged materials pile up, move the chipper or the processed material to keep the outlet free. DO NOT position the deflector horizontally, as it will reduce the airflow, impeding discharge and cause a blockage. 6.D Idle speed - to reduce stress on the engine when wood chipping is not being performed set throttle control lever to its SLOW position. Lowering the engine speed to idle the engine will help extend the life of the engine, as well as conserve fuel and reduce the noise level of the machine. 30

31 7. MAINTENANCE WARNING Always stop the engine and unplug the spark plug before doing any repairs or maintenance. Never touch the rotating blade. Check and maintain fuel level regularly, and check engine oil daily. Frequently check the Wood chipper and make sure that all deposits are removed from the feed hopper and discharge chute. At regular intervals, check the tightness of all nuts, bolts and screws. If the blade hits an obstacle check for damage and if the machine vibrates badly stop the machine and take it to a service dealer. CAUTION Always refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off. Whilst carrying out maintenance you must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Suggested PPE Sturdy footwear, work gloves and long trousers. CAUTION NEVER use a pressure washer to clean your wood chipper. Water can penetrate areas of the unit and cause damage to spindles, pulleys, bearings, or the engine. The use of pressure washers will result in shortened life and reduce serviceability. Shut down the engine, wait for all moving parts to come to a complete stop, remove H.T lead, and then wait for 5 minutes before performing maintenance on the chipper. 32 7.10 Air filter. CAUTION Never let the engine run without the air filter being fitted. A dirty air filter element affects the engine performance, increases fuel consumption and makes it difficult to start. If you notice a loss of engine power, check the air filter. You MUST make sure that the housing is free of dust and debris DO NOT allow any dust or debris to enter the carburetor Remove the air filter cover by unscrewing the air filter cover wingnut in an anticlock wise direction, carefully remove the cover Once the air filter cover has been removed you can undo the air filter wingnut. Undo the air filter wingnut and remove the Paper/Foam filter element. If it is damaged replace it. Otherwise tap the filter to remove dust particles. Blow the remaining debris from the filter using a low pressure airline. Blow from inside the filter outwards. Wash the foam part in detergent and allow to dry. N.B. To reinstate the fliter assembly reverse the above process. 32

33 7.20 Spark plug. WARNING The spark plug MUST be fully tightened otherwise the engine will overheat causing damage. Always complete the following steps after the engine has been turned off and allowed to cool down To make sure the engine runs correctly a spark plug gap of mm must be maintained and the spark plug must be free of carbon deposits To remove the spark plug, pull off the HT lead and then undo the spark plug using the supplied box spanner / T bar in an anti-clockwise direction Once the plug has been removed check it for visual damage, electrode wear and carbon deposits. Replace a damaged or badly worn spark plug. Clean off any carbon deposits by using a soft brass brush Check the gap with a feeler gauge and adjust electrode to the correct gap of mm Check the spark plug washer for damage and replace if required Refit the spark plug by hand to make sure it does not cross thread, tighten the spark plug to a torque of 12/15Nm. 33

34 7.30 Engine oil. CAUTION Risk of burn injury from HOT engine and HOT oil allow engine and engine oil to cool down before topping up or replacing oil Drain the used oil while the engine is warm. Warm oil drains quickly Remove the filler cap/dipstick and the drain plug, then place a suitable container under the oil drain plug and tilt the machine to catch the used oil Wait until all of the oil has drained from the engine. Once all oil is drained check the drain plug washer and replace if damaged. Replace the drain plug by hand to prevent cross threading then fully tighten DO NOT dispose of used motor oil in a manner that is incompatible with the environment. We suggest you take used oil in a sealed container to your local recycling center or service station for reclamation. Do not throw it in the domestic waste, pour it on the ground or down a drain With engine/machine on level ground fill to the upper edge of the oil filler neck with SAE15W40 oil. DO NOT overfill Screw the filler cap / dipstick in securely Clean up any spilt oil. 34

35 7.40 Battery maintenance The battery is maintenance free and as such requires no special treatment other than keeping it clean. If the machine has not been used for a while it may run need discharging 7.42 The battery can be charged by starting the machine manually. Once running the battery will charge You can also remove the battery and charge it away from the machine, with a mains battery charger When disconnecting the battery you MUST make sure that the battery leads DO NOT touch each other or the positive terminal does not touch the machine chassis When reconnecting the battery you MUST observe the correct polarity RED wire to the positive (+) terminal and the BLACK wire to the (-) terminal. You should NOT start the machine when the battery is not fitted To access the battery for removal undo the battery cover retaining bolt and keep in a safe place. Remove cover and lift the battery out and place it on the floor Undo the BLACK wire to the (-) terminal first. Then undo the RED wire to the positive (+) terminal and cover it with insulating tape. Put the battery on charge. Once the battery is fully charged connect the battery as follows connect the RED wire to the positive (+) terminal, then connect the BLACK wire to the (-) terminal. 35

36 7.5. Storage. CAUTION If you do not follow these steps, deposits may arise in the carburetor. This will cause starting difficulties and may cause permanent damage Perform all the general maintenance that the maintenance section of your User Manual is recommended Clean the outside of the machine Remove all fuel from the fuel tank by tipping the content into a suitable container. DO NOT use stale fuel in the next season Turn OFF the fuel tap After all the fuel has been removed from the fuel tank. Start the engine. Allow the engine to run in idle until engine stops alone. This allows the remaining fuel to be emptied from the carburetor Allow the engine to cool down for about five minutes Remove the spark plug and pour 1 teaspoon of clean engine oil into the combustion chamber. Slowly pull the starter rope several times to coat internal components. Re place the spark plug Store the machine in a cool, dry place away from any source of ignition such as an oil burner, water heater etc Disconnect the battery and store in a cool dry place. During storage we advise you charge the battery at least once every month Transporting the machine When transporting the machine make sure that no fuel is allowed to leak out, ensure petrol ON / OFF is in the OFF position. 36

37 7.70 Belt tensioning 7.71 Ensure belts are kept correctly tensioned. Tighten the adjusting nut arrowed in image to keep belts tight. Do not over-tighten Grease main shaft bearings every 50 hours use. There is a grease nipple on each bearing, see images below: 37

38 8. TROUBLESHOOTING CAUTION If troubleshooting does not solve the problem, contact your dealer or the manufacturer directly. Use only original parts approved by the manufacturer, otherwise a hazard risk arises. Common faults Elimination method 1 The engine will not start Read the engine users manual, check the fuel level, ensure the fuel is fresh, ON-OFF switch is ON, lubrication oil level and the emergency stop button. 2 Engine cuts out during operation Check if the engine stopped due to overloading, check if the discharge chute is clear and that the rotary blade is not jammed, check the emergency stop lever and safety protection switch 3 The hopper is blocked Stop the machine, and remove the hoppers and clear the blocked material. Don t touch the blade during this procedure. 4 Unusual noises Stop the machine, check all nuts and bolts are tight, check bearings for excessive play and that blades and belts are not rubbing anywhere. 5 Damaged blades Fit new blades 6 Belts slipping Ensure thebelt tensioner is adjusted correctly or fit new belts. 7 Poor chipping performance Adjust the blade clearance, the recommended clearance for rough chipping is 1.5mm-3mm and for fine chipping is 0.5mm-1.2mm. 38

The blades are worn too much. 2. The diameter of the branches inserted into the machine are larger than 100 mm for HYCH1500E-2 or 70mm for HYCH7070[E]-2 3. The gap between the fixed blade and the counter-blade is too large, the correct gap is ½ mm 1. The diameter of branches is too big. There are unacceptable materials such as stones or metal in the input tube. A length of branch remains in the rotor after the engine was last stopped. 1. Change or sharpen the blades and counter-blade. Note that the blades are sharpened on both edges so they can be reversed. 2. Shut the engine off and remove the branch that is too thick. 3. Adjust the gap between the blade and the counter-blade in the slots Shut off the engine, remove the spark plug cap. NEVER under any circumstances use your hands to remove stuck wood. Reduce size of wood to 100 mm for HYCH1500E-2 or 70mm for HY- CH7070[E]-2 or less. Use a piece of wood to turn the rotor to remove the material from the rotor and input tube. If necessary, remove the cap of the bearing housing and rotate the rotor axle with a spanner. If necessary, remove the input or output tube to get access to the rotor. Check the sharpness of all blades, have them sharpened or replace as required. Make sure all blade bolts are properly tightened. 39
