1 Hydro One Networks Inc. 483 Bay Street Tel: (416) th Floor, North Tower Fax: (416) Toronto, ON, M5G 2P5 May 20 th 2016 Mark Van de Rydt Supervisor Engineering Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc. 500 Regent Street P.O Box 250 Sudbury, ON P3E 3Y2 Dear Mr. Van de Rydt, Subject: Regional Planning Status In reference to your request for a regional planning status letter, please note that Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc. belongs to the Sudbury/Algoma and North/East of Sudbury regions which are in Group 2 and 3, respectively. A map showing details about the 21 regions and a list of Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) in each region is attached in Appendix A and B, respectively. A summary of the regional planning status for each region is outlined below: 1. Sudbury/Algoma The Regional Infrastructure Planning (RIP) process for Sudbury/Algoma Region was completed in April A new 230/44kV DESN at Hanmer TS is proposed to replace the 115/22kV Coniston TS at an estimated cost of $25M. All loads will be transferred to the new 44kV voltage level by This is a pool funded investment and LDCs are not expected to pay. The voltage regulation issue at Manitoulin TS was further assessed by the Working Group and it was determined that this can be dealt with Under Load Tap Changers (ULTC) on the power transformers to regulate voltages within the range outlined in the Transmission System Code (TSC). No further action is required at this time.
2 2. North/East of Sudbury Based on the findings of the Needs Assessment, completed in April 2016, the Working Group recommends that no further regional coordination is required. Two voltage regulations needs at Timmins TS and Kirkland Lake TS are identified and recommended to be best addressed by wires options solution by the Local Planning (LP) report by Hydro One, expected to be completed in Q Further details will be discussed with the Working Group and communicated as they become available. Hydro One looks forward to continue working with Greater Sudbury Hydro Inc. in executing the regional planning process. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Sincerely, Ajay Garg, Manager - Regional Planning Coordination Hydro One Networks Inc.
