9 Transit Procurement Initiative Metrolinx responsibility since June 2008 Key Objectives: Reduce unit costs by consolidating municipal transit orders Best value for money through common performance based specifications Two major procurements to date: 147 Buses in 2007/08 (12m diesel) for 8 municipalities Estimated total savings of $2.2 million ($15,000/bus) in Buses in 2009 (12m and 9m Diesel and 12m Hybrid) for 13 municipalities (Larger cost savings anticipated) Specialized Vehicle common performance based specifications under development 9
10 Transit Procurement Initiative Ongoing joint transit bus procurement (2 year cycle) next procurement in 2011 Specialized transit vehicles (2010) RFI this summer Will be exploring other transit joint purchasing opportunities: Fuel Parts Intelligent Transportation Systems Other Vehicles (i.e. rail) Consulting Opportunities Procurement Fairness advisor; bus inspection 10
11 Presto Fare Card What is it? The computer chip in the card communicates with the card reader in transit stations or on transit vehicles. The system calculates the lowest fare for your trip, and deducts the fare from the balance stored on your card all in less than one second Unlike paper tickets or passes, the card is made of durable plastic so you can keep it and use it for as long as you need to 11

The PRESTO card will be rolled out in four stages across the GTA and Ottawa: Stage one Field Trials, GO Transit's Oakville and Bronte rail stations as well as Union Station, fall Stage two Complete Lakeshore West GO Rail and Oakville and Burlington Transit by winter Stage three Milton and Georgetown GO Rail lines and associated GO Bus routes, Brampton Transit, Mississauga Transit and TTC Islington Subway Station by summer Barrie Stouffville and Richmond Hill GO Rail and Associated GO Bus routes, Hamilton Street Railway, York Region Transit and TTC Subway stations Finch, Don Mills and Downsview by fall Lakeshore East GO Rail line and associated GO Bus routes and Durham Region Transit by winter Stage four Ottawa's OC Transpo System by winter
13 Trip Planner Metrolinx will collaborate with GO Transit, TTC and other transit and transportation providers across our region to implement a one-stop integrated trip planner system hosted by Will be customer-friendly: key in your origin and destination point, and the trip planner will display departure and arrival times, connection opportunities, fares and a route map convenient links to real-time traffic and weather conditions, traffic incident reports, and even airport and border crossing delays Carbon footprint calculator feature which will measure the impact of our individual transportation and travel decisions on the quality of our air and natural environment 13
