We have chosen to develop the most comprehensive AMC suspension catalog on the planet because AMC owners have been ignored by the performance aftermarket. This catalog would not have been possible without the great support we received from AMC owners all over the country. They brought us their cars, shared their knowledge and gave us plenty of encouragment. Our hats are off to the myriad of AMC Control Freaks. This catalog is a work in progress as we are continuously developing new AMC product. Our AMC systems have been designed specifically for the AMC performance enthusiast. Originally for pro touring, these systems are easily adaptable to drag racing, road course and autocross. Not only do they get rid of excessive unsprung weight, but they are stronger and more precise than the stock stampings. Our true bolt-in Independent Front Suspension (IFS) systems with rack & pinion steering, coil over shocks and a killer geometry are available for a large number of AMC vehicles, including many pre-1970 trunnion cars. By removing the stock front suspension and steering box, and replacing them with our performance proven IFS system, your AMC muscle handles like never before. The built in negative roll geometry fights body roll, allows lowering, sticks in corners and makes steering much more precise. Braking is swifter and feels better because the system is designed to combat nose dives under hard braking. With more caster and camber adjustment, the components adapt to whatever situation you want. Other AMC Suspension Solutions include multi-link rear suspensions with coil over shocks and full adjustability. These high strength weld-in systems allow full adjustment on the car. Like all of our suspension products, these multi-link systems for AMC muscle cars are designed in house on our 3D CAD systems and entirely USA made. All of the plate parts are precision laser cut and CNC formed, machined parts are CNC-made to MilSpec tolerances, and all of our MIG and TIG welding is done in-house by certified welders. 3 AMC MUSCLE The very existence of AMC muscle cars such as the AMX, Hurst SC/Rambler, and Rebel "Machine" tell you just how deep muscle cars were embedded by the late 60 s and into the early 70s. Here was American Motors, and later AMC, the iconic producer of econoboxes. But very quickly each of these cars made their imprint against the likes of Mustang, Camaro, Challenger & Cuda. With wild stripes and colors, AMC was a contender. Now, Control Freak Suspensions takes it all to a new level of handling and performance. Independent Front Suspension Systems More than just bragging rights, our bolt-in AMC IFS systems are designed to provide exceptional control and stability, and bring your AMC muscle into the new millennium. Designed in-house on the most advanced SolidWorks CAD systems, the AMC IFS products are eager performers. We started with a clean sheet of paper and designed in the features of great suspensions: Double adjustable coil-over shocks and high tensile steel springs; rack and pinion steering, custom Wilwood Pro spindles set at 6 degrees of negative roll, precision bent DOM seamless round tube and an array of laser cut and CNC bent parts. Combined they make AMC muscle scream handling, control, stability, performance and safety. Multi-Link Rear Suspension Systems To ensure consistency in control and stability, we designed our multi-link rear suspension systems with the driver in mind. For just about every Rambler and AMC since 1964, we already have, or are developing, a 4-link rear system with do9uble adjustable Viking coil-over shocks. The systems are available as parallel or triangulated systems, depending on the vehicle. The parallel systems use either an adjustable track bar or adjustable panhard bar. The triangulated systems don t require the fifth bar, and are extremely stout and stable. Whether pro-touring, road racing, auto-cross or drag racing, there s a 4-link system for your AMC muscle car. 4 Front Control Arms & Coil Over Conversion Systems If your budget doesn t allow the higher cost IFS, we have an excellent, lower cost alternative: Our tubular control arms with coil over shocks, all in a single conversion package. They re designed to provide superior handling and greater alignment capability, which translates into better control and performance. Whether it s pro touring, street, strip, autocross or road course, just about every AMC muscle car from 1970 and up will benefit from this budget system. For AMX, Javelin, Spirit, Gremlin, Hornet and Concord, we ve eliminated that huge, pre-loaded factory front spring and those flimsy stamped control arms. In their place are CAD designed and street/strip tested tubular control arms and an optional coil-over conversion. We ve added superior handling, lighter weight, anti-dive and flat out good looks. 5 BOLT-IN INDEPENDENT FRONT SUSPENSION (IFS) SYSTEMS INNOVATION Innovation has always been our strong suit. We were the first in the industry to develop a true high performance tubular independent rear suspension (IRS) system that was vehicle specific and bolt-in. In 2005 we introduced the first IFS for the Mustang that has been road and speed tested at Bonneville (259 mph) and Talladega (187 mph). Also in 2005 we teamed up with Mr. Norm of Grand Spaulding Dodge in Chicago to develop versatile, high performance independent front and 4-link rear suspension systems for Mopar muscle cars, including the A-, B- and E-Body cars. Now we are doing it again for the AMC muscle crowd. 9 WORLD CLASS 4-LINK REAR SUSPENSION SYSTEM KITS THE CONTROL FREAK ADVANTAGE 4-Link Coil-Over Rear Suspension Systems Custom Frame and Differential Brackets Each bracket is laser cut and bent for precision. Fully Adjustable Trailing Arms Each trailing arm has CNC machined threaded insertsfor ease of adjustment with the rod ends. Machined bungs are TIG welded into place. Custom Rod Ends - Rod ends are USA made specifically for us from the highest quality performance alloys. High Performance Graphite Impregnated Poly Bushings Bushings are custom made for our applications and never need grease due to the impregnated graphite. Other systems use bushings requiring maintenance. Self-Aligning Installation System aligns itself for installation once the front frame brackets are in place. Other systems require precision measuring on all aspects of the installation. Maximum Wheel Clearance The frame brackets mount to the frame and place the trailing arms inboard of the frame rails. Other bolt-on systems steal space from the wheel well, forcing you to use a smaller tire. Exhaust Systems Fit - Unlike other systems, our 4-link systems are designed to accommodate traditional exhaust configurations, even in 3. 13 TUBULAR CONTROL ARMS & COIL OVER KITS Our front tubular control arms and coil over conversion kits are the perfect alternative for the budget-minded enthusiast. Tubular control arms pick up where the manufacturer left off. Replacing those heavy, stamped steel front control arms with our DOM tubular steel arms adds strength and sheds unsprung weight. Our designs add significantly more alignment capability: More caster, more camber, more lowering and more anti-dive. Steering is more precise, cornering is certain and panic stops are controllable. All of our control arms are delivered in gloss black powdercoat completely assembled. That means ball joints, graphite impregnated poly bushings, Grade 8 hardware are all mounted, and they arrive in foam-in-place packaging. Just install it and go. Our coil over kits use USA-made Viking Performance double adjustable coil over shocks as standard. 15 AMC MUSCLE CAR GO FAST ACCESSORIES Sway Bar Kits Simply put, sway bars help control unwanted body roll as the car turns. We know body roll is not good, so we want it controlled. Our suspension systems significantly control body roll, but a little more help is always good. Our front sway bars are designed to fit our IFS systems, not a stock front suspension. The same for our rear adjustable sway bars they require our rear suspension system. This are great items to bring total control to your g-machine. 16 Headers That Fit & Work One of the most frustrating issues with any performance car build is headers. You re told they ll bolt right in no fuss, no muss. But when you go to install the headers, something is always in the way. Now you have to take those nice, shiny tubes and ding them here and there to make them fit. Once they re in you then discover they hang terribly low, and they really don t flow a lot better than the factory manifolds. Ouch! Control Freak is introducing headers that fit without the aid of a hammer or the pain of busted knuckles. It is a system that flows very, very well. 20 AMC AUSSIE RHD SYSTEM AMC MUSCLE WITH RHD We have not forgotten our friends down under. Australia has its own share of great AMC muscle produced in Australia with Right Hand Drive (RHD). So what s the big deal? you say. Just get a RHD rack & pinion and you re done. Right? WRONG! Aussie Just as in North America, the Australian AMC vehicles were all built with the same offcenter drivelines, meaning there is little or no space on the right side of the engine bay. That makes it almost impossible to just reverse the US product. With the help of our Aussie AMC enthusiasts, we developed manual and power right hand drive systems with unique mounts and correct bump-steer geometry. 21 AMC AUSSIE DUST BOOT BRAKES FROM WILWOOD AUSSIE AMC MUSCLE BRAKES WITH DUST BOOTS Australia is very strict on suspension and brake products offered by the aftermarket. One thing the government requires is that all brakes have dust boots on their pistons. Working with Wilwood, we have prepared a number of brake systems that do just that put Australian specification dust boots on brakes. Front brakes have rotors that are either 11 inch or inch. Rear brake rotors are all 11 inch. All systems have 4-piston DynaPro calipers and you can choose color, drilled or undrilled. Now you get the quality and stopping power of Wilwood that is Australian street legal. 22 AMC MUSCLE CAR COOLING E very muscle car suffers, at one time or another, from cooling issues. You know what it s like. You re sitting in traffic on a hot day, just watching the temperature needle climb. You cut off the air conditioning, rev the motor a little and even turn on the heater, all in hopes of cooling it down. But it just won t come down. Sometimes it s a simple issue, like the wrong temperature thermostat, or a small leak. But more often than not, your radiator is just not up to snuff. After all, it is about forty years old. Enter the Control Freak Cooling Solution! Our custom aluminum radiator, for manual and automatic transmission cars, has been designed with hot roads and lousy driving conditions in mind. Not only does it have to hold up under the rigors of high performance driving autocross, drag, road course and protouring but it has to look good, too. That s why every unit comes standard with TIG welded drain, rigid flanges and billet water neck with overflow. The hug 2.25 core has multiple flow tubes surrounded by state-of-the-art aluminum fins for better cooling. And you don t have to worry about special hoses either stock hoses fit.
