2 Product description and key features 2.1 Overview The all new planetary gearbox Orbi-fleX series offers a clear advantage over traditional parallel shaft as well as conventional planetary solutions.

6 2 Product description and key features 2.1 Overview The all new planetary gearbox Orbi-fleX series offers a clear advantage over traditional parallel shaft as well as conventional planetary solutions. It is a result of continuous research & development activities as well as real world experience of Wikov gained over the years in many industries and applications. Advanced design and analysis techniques together with extensive testing were used during the development to ensure the highest technology level of engineering with an excellent performance to cost ratio. State of the art manufacturing technologies and advanced quality procedures within Wikov group ensure the maximum quality level of the product. The Orbi-fleX series covers output torque range from 121 to 2360 knm with 22 basic sizes. The whole range is based on a highly modular system with the main focus on high quality, good economics and short delivery time. If standard solution does not meet customer requirements, dedicated Wikov engineering and application team is available to adjust the design to any customer need. Gearboxes are available in various arrangements suitable to different industrial applications. Some of the key technical features of the all new Orbi-fleX series are described in the following chapter. 6

2 Product description and key features 2.2 Key technical features 2.2.1 Flexible pin technology One of the key technological feature, which has been well proven in wind, tidal, mining, off-shore but also industrial applications, is so called flexible-pin technology.

7 2 Product description and key features 2.2 Key technical features Flexible pin technology One of the key technological feature, which has been well proven in wind, tidal, mining, off-shore but also industrial applications, is so called flexible-pin technology. This Wikov patented technology offers significant advantages over a traditional approach to a planetary gearboxes design. Fig. 1 Multi-satellite planetary stage Achieving higher power density by using more than 3 satellites in one planetary stage is well known approach. However, if conventional solid pin design is used, problems caused by key component deformations, manufacturing tolerances and mainly behavior under various operation loads may occur. Traditional approach to cope with deformation in the system is to make key components stiffer at a weight penalty cost. 8 2 Product description and key features 2.2 Key technical features By introducing a controlled flexibility into the system, high power density can be achieved in a very safe way. Unlike similar systems using flexible annulus (ring) gear or carrier, both of which is not an ideal solution in terms of fatigue life, Wikov solution is introducing the flexibility into the system through the specially designed flexible pin. Benefits of a flexible pin over a conventional design are described on a simple example. Planet Planet carrier Nominal load Contact pattern In case of conventional planetary stage (fig. 2), the planetary stage system stiffness, as well as gear micro geometry, can be well optimized for a nominal torque. Under such, both, gear contact pattern as well as planet bearing load sharing are good. In case of unexpected overload, Fig. 2 Conventional planetary stage deformation in the structure leads to a uneven gear contact pattern as well as planet bearing loading. One side will be loaded more than the other one. Both, gear and bearing life is compromised. If flexible pin planetary stage is used (fig. 3), extra flexibility in the specially designed pin allows planet to float under load in a limited manner. Planet Planet carrier Overload Contact pattern By a nature of the pin design, planet stays parallel with to both, sun and annulus gear. Equal planet bearing load sharing, as well as even gear contact pattern is achieved for various loads including overload. Both, gear and bearing life, are significantly improved. 8

Planetary gears are designed as spur gears. Sun and planet gears are manufactured as case hardened and ground. Ring gears are either quenched or nitrided, ground or shaped. Input bevel gears (if used) use cyclo-palloid geometry, and are case hardened and HPG-cut. Input parallel shaft gears (if used) are designed as helical and manufactured as case hardened and ground Shafts All shafts are made of high strength tensile steels either quenched or case hardened. Low speed output shafts can be either forged or cast. Carriers are either forged, cast or made of billet. Heavy duty bearing arrangement is available on request for all gearboxes Housings Gearbox housings are either cast or fabricated as appropriate. Cast housings are made either from grey cast or spheroidical graphite cast iron. Fabricated housings are made of steel. Oil level is optimized to keep adequate lubrication with minimum churning losses. For non-standard gearbox mounting positions, high nominal speeds or due to cooling requirements, gearboxes may be fitted with forced lubrication and cooling. Oil heaters can be fitted on request Cooling Gearboxes are design in order to achieve maximum radiation and convection values from the surface of the gearbox housings. In case gearboxes are operated outside of the limit of thermal capacity, forced oil circulation fitted with external cooling is used. It prevents unexpected downtime or serious gearbox failures by detection and early warning and thus adjusting of the maintenance schedule in case of an incipient wear in the gearbox would occur.

On request, Wikov Condition Monitoring System (WiGuard) can be fitted Condition monitoring system WiGuard WiGuard (fig. 5) is a condition monitoring system developed by Wikov company. It prevents unexpected downtime or serious gearbox failures by detection and early warning and thus adjusting of the maintenance schedule in case of an incipient wear in the gearbox would occur. Monitored values include bearing temperatures and vibrations, oil temperature, pressure and cleanliness, and rotational parts speed. Fig. 5 WiGuard - condition monitoring system On a special request, torque either on the shaft or in the gearbox reaction, can be measured. All key data are on-line monitored, saved, analysed and reported to a remote server via the internet connection (Ethernet and/or GPRS). Customer has got a real time web access to all measured values while reports with evaluation summary and recommendations are sent monthly. DNV GL, ABS, etc.) if requested.
