Founded in 1990 by Hursthouse and his wife Robbi, Hursthouse Inc. has grown into one of the most successful landscaping firms in Illinois. The residential design-build firm employs 45 people and has built long-term relationships with clients who call on Hursthouse each time they move to a new home. What makes the company unique, Hursthouse said, is that we really focus first and foremost on people, both our team members and our clients. When dealing with clients, team members follow service principals that include showing up on time, doing what they promise, and finishing what they start. Based in Bolingbrook, the company works primarily in the western suburbs. Because the firm is referral driven, it serves customers all over Chicagoland and even in adjoining states when requested. Out-of-state jobs are usually vacation homes owned by existing clients. The company's work has been recognized with awards and an appearance on HGTV's Landscapers' Challenge, where Arlington Heights homeowners selected Hursthouse over two other contenders. The company executes a couple hundred contracts a year. Our typical client is someone who wants to do something unique to their home environment, such as terraces, a perennial garden, pool or pond. 5 While projects range from small jobs to total landscape makeovers that can take a year to complete, Hursthouse is known for taking lots of time trying to understand the goals and lifestyle of the client. the owner said. When the landscape architect and client have determined those goals and settled on a plan, Hursthouse Inc. depends on a fleet of four loaders purchased from Martin Implement to help with the transformation. The company owns two skid steers an LX985 and an LS190.B and two compact track loaders an LT185.B and a C190. Hursthouse crews use the loaders for excavating, grading, and transporting materials, including loading trucks with bulk materials, moving trees in forks, and moving pallets of bricks and stones. The company first purchased the skid steers, then tried the track machines at the suggestion of Dave Wawrzyniec, Martin Implement sales representative. Martin Implement has really helped us by giving us the opportunity to explore what different machines could do for us. They thought the track machines would provide additional opportunities for lifting and access on the job site, and suggested trying a demo machine, Hursthouse said. He plans to keep a mix of rubber tire and track machines in the fleet from now on. Hursthouse's philosophy is to purchase equipment that will meet the firm's needs now and in the future, then make the machines last a long time. We do a lot of heavy lifting, and we want equipment that will serve us well. We're a seasonal business, and if equipment is down in the middle of the season, that costs us a lot. We want something that is reliable. New Holland is that. For what we do, equipment really seems to do the trick, Hursthouse said.
