5 JUVENILE PRODUCTS ANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION INC / JPA Page 5 of 13 AST F STANDARD CONSUER SAFETY SPECIFICATION FOR EXPANSION GATES AND EXPANDABLE ENCLOSURES Section Requirement Result 5 General Requirements 5.1 Wood Parts - Prior to testing, any exposed wood parts shall be smooth and free from splinters. 5.2 Screws - Screws shall not be used in the assembly of any components or locking or attaching device (or device) that are intended to be removed by the consumer during daily operations. 5.3 Sharp Edges and Points - No hazardous sharp edges or points as defined by 16 CFR and shall be found before and after testing 5.4 Small Parts - No small parts as defined by 16 CFR 1501 shall be found before and after testing. 5.5 Latching or Locking echanism - Any unit that folds, or has a moveable panel, shall have a latching or locking device or other provision in the design that will prevent the unit from unintentionally folding. The unit shall remain in its manufacturer s recommended use position during and upon completion of the test in accordance to section 7.1 If a unit is designed with a latching or locking device in order to prevent folding, that device shall remain engaged and operative after testing of 7.1.& Foot Pedal echanisms - The gate shall remain locked/latched and in the manufacturer s recommended use position during and upon completion of the test described in Openings - Holes and slots that extend entirely through a wall section of any rigid material less than in.
