2 Introduction THANK YOU for purchasing a Redekop product. READ THIS MANUAL carefully to learn how to properly install and maintain your chopper. Failure to do so could result in personal injury or equipment damage. RIGHT AND LEFT sides are combine. determined by facing the back of the SPECIAL FEATURES OF THE NEW REDEKOP CHOPPER: 1) Your new chopper, for the first time, combines a chaff spreader and a straw chopper in one machine, enhancing both. 2) Swing-away feature allows for easy access for combine adjustment 3) Special hammers: i) provide closer clearance to sickles for fine cutting ii) provide greater air thrust to the extent that the entire chopper becomes a fan iii) utilize the angle of the hammer paddle, with respect to the stationary blade, to create a scissor action particularly significant in cutting tough straw. 4) Special moulded fins concentrate the air in a narrow, horizontal band ~ktich enhances the spreading capacity of the chopper. 5) Feed collection option - the spreading unit can be replaced with an outlet tube to blow the chopped feed, including the chaff, into a trailing wagon. 3 ( liiid[ I: r ~ NOT OPEN I WHILE COMBINE RUNNING Look and listen to ensure that all motion has ceased on combine before unlatching the safety lock on the chopper frame and swinging the chopper away from the combine. Flying chaff, straw and other debris may cause injury if chopper is opened before it has stopped rotating. Keep safety shield provided in place at all times. The Redekop chopper s placement on your combine has it s pulley/belt drive outside of the protection offered by existing combine shields. Contact with either the pulley or belt while chopper is running can cause serious injury. i:ii ;1 ~ II ~ r KEEP HANDS I OUTOF CROPPER Keep hands and any other objects away from chopper when combine is running. Do not place hand between the chopper and seive when samples of chaff are to be obtained. A small scoop with a wooden handle should be fashened for this purpose and used with great care. The Redekop chopper draws a large amount of air from the combine and could easily draw in a hand or other object that is place too close to it s hammers. ~ ;1~It~Ti] rstat CLEAR OF I SPREADING AREA AT ALL Keep all persons clear of the spreading or collecting unit at all times. Chaff and straw can be propelled to distances of 50 feet or more, and hard objects like stones much further still. REdEkop INdUSTRIES BASIC ChoppER MANUAL 1 994

4 Maintenance / Grease Hinge - Every 3 to 5 days / Grease Idler Hinge(s) - every 3 to 5 days / Check Belts - Regularly Adjust tension and look for any cracks or other damage that may result in breakage. d7 Check Hammers - Regularly Check for wear of metal. Check for cracks or other apparent damage. Check clearance between hammers and sickles to make sure there is adequate space to operate properly. CAUTION: If one hammer breaks and the chopper must be run without a replacement, that hammer as well as the hammer directly opposite it must both be removed in order to keep the rotor in balance. CAUTION: Never replace only one hammer for wear or breakage, always replace them in opposite pairs. If vibration occurs, check for uneven wear on hammers and replace as required. / Check Sickles for Wear and Breakage If a sickle blade breaks, simply turn the sickle bar down, remove that particular blade holder and replace the blade. 8 REDEKOP INDUSTRIES LTD., hereinafter referred to as Manufacturer, warrants each new Redekop Chopper sold by the Manufacturer to be free from defects in material and workmanship, under normal use and service, For a period of one (1) year after the date of delivery to the original retail purchaser. The Manufacturer will, at its option, replace or repair, at the Manufacturer s factory, or at a point designated by the Manufacturer, any part or parts which shall appear to the satisfaction of the Manufacturer upon inspection at such point, to have been defective in material or workmanship. This Warranty does not obligate the Manufacturer to bear any transportation charges in connection with the replacement of defective parts. This Warranty shall not apply to any Chopper which shall have been installed or operated in a manner not recommended by the Manufacturer; nor to any Chopper which shall have been repaired, altered, neglected or used in any way which, in the Manufacturer s opinion, adversely affects its performance; nor to any Chopper in which parts not manufactured or approved by the Manufacturer have been used; nor to any accessories installed on the Chopper where the accessory manufacturer has its warranty nor to normal maintenance or replacement of normal service items. Manufacturer reserves the right to modify, alter, and improve any Chopper or parts without incurring any obligation to replace any Chopper or parts previously sold with such modified, altered or improved Chopper or part. THIS WARRANTY, AND THE MANUFACTURER S OBLIGATION HEREUNDER, IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESSED, IMPLIED, OR OF FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, and all other obligations or liabilities, including special or consequential damages or contingent liabilities arising out of the failure of any Chopper or part to operate properly. No person is authorized to give any other warranty or to assume any additional obligation on the Manufacturer s behalf unless made in writing and signed by an officer of the Manufacturer. 10 Chopp.r Instollotion histructions 1. Remove beaters from combine. 2. Remove seive pan from combine. 3. Remove hinge bar from the IH pan and install the shorter seive pan supplied. The rubber portion of the IH pan mount must also be removed and installed on the new seive pan using the taller mount brackets supplied. (see following illustration) 4. 11 ~nstaihng the Chopper Mount Frame 1. Position chopper mount frame underneath combine frame as shown. 2. Place upper frame members on combine frame and insert 3/4 x 14 bolts upwards through the frame and upper members. Use the grade 8-3/4 nuts (gold) and lockwashers to secure the bolts in place. IMPORTANT! - Ensure that the chopper frame is positioned so that the rearward edge of the combine tie-rod will not be obstructed by the angled section of the frame as shown below. Assure that the chopper frame does lot sit further forward than shown so that the tie rod is free to pivot. 12 Installing Chopper on Frame 1. Making sure that the two unistalled turnbuckles are of equal lengths, attach one side of the turnbuckle to the outside face of the chopper mount using 1/2 x 1-1/4 bolts. 2. Lift the spreader hood into place on the chopper and fasten using 1/2 x 1-1/4 bolts. 3. Attach the free end of the turnbuckles to the spreader hood using 1/2 x 1-1/4 bolts. Hang chopper from one of the 1 holes in this bracket. Use a rope tied in the following manner to allow for easiest positioning of chopper. DO NOT HANG CHOPPER FROM THE HANDLES as they are for use in positioning and opening/closing only. ~~h~to 1oa ~er attach to chopper hangers 4. Lift chopper into position using a lifting device and a rope or chain as outlined in the folfowing figure. The chopper hinge should fit snug over the frame hinge section so proper allignment of the chopper to the frame is important. Forcing the chopper section over the frame may damage the hinge and make insertion of the pin difficult. Note: Chopper may be in swung away position for installation making access to pin easier. 5. Once chopper is in place on the frame, insert the pin from the top down through the hinge. 6. Remove the four bolt and support brace from the combine and fasten the gear box frame in place using the original bolts as shown. IMPORTANT: Fastening a rope between the gear box frame and some fixed component or brace in the engine component until it is fastened properly will prevent damage or injury caused by dropping the gear box. 14 Installing Main Drive Belt Tightner IMPORTANT! - Fill gear box with high quality synthetic gear oil before starting. Use this type of spring tightener here. This pulley not yet fastened Fasten idler mount with 1/4 bolt and Fender washer. 1. Attach gear box idler bracket and pulley as shown. e double belt idler. Attach to bracket with 5/8 x 3-1/2 bolt and 5/8 washers as spacers. 2. 16 Instollotion of Chopper Drive Pulley Chopper Drive Pulley Main Drive Pulley on Combine ~Lemove this main drive pulley and have a small groove machined into its face to match the lip on the chopper drive pulley. Position the chopper drive pulley in the machined groove of the coml,lne drive pulley and drill through pulley spokes to match holes in chopper for 5/16~ I~olts. I Two Speed Prive Triple belt idler pulley 1 Move the two speed drive lever to the position. shown by drilling a new hole in its bracket as close to the forward edge as possible. On some combine models this drive lever will still interfere with the top idler pulley after moving it to this position. In this case, the lever can be given a slight bend away from the pulley to give adequate clearance. 2. Attach idler bracket in place on top using the existing bolts on the combine channel iron. The bracket should line up with the two holes shown in the diagram. Drill out the two bottom holes and fasten using 3/8 bolts. 3. Grind or torch off the corner of the radiator bracket shown to make room for the idler pulley. 4. Assemble the two 9 idlers on the lower idler combination using 5/8 x 4 bolts and the 1-1/4 spacers in between the pulleys and bracket as spacers. 3. Assemble spring tension unit and attach to lower idler bracket. The lower idler bracket is then fastened to the main idler bracket using a fender washer and 5/16 x 3/4 bolt. 19 Installation of Pulley on Chopper 1. Install the 6_112t1 triple pulley on chopper shaft with the SD 1-1/2 bushing supplied. The bushing should sit on the inside of the pulley and be positioned so that when tight, the pulley sits slightly past the end of the shaft.
