The Lease to purchase program has been by all accounts a successful launch. We have some bids hanging out there that I would like to share with you but with the deadline for the news letter and the outcome on those bids not finalized we are unable but all I can say is stay tuned! The turnaround in our CSA scores is something to behold and it was the efforts of you the drivers that made that turnaround possible. Spring is HERE! The weather in the Northeast is getting nicer so you know what that means IT S THE LAW! That means be prepared for an increased presence of LAW ENFORCEMENT, especially in construction zones, and an increase in ROADSIDE INSPECTION stops. Make thorough PRE-TRIPS, and get defects corrected immediately. You must enter found defective items on the DVIR and contact BREAKDOWN. Don t forget to record roadsides on your log. We are still seeing lane violations. Maintain your lanes; obey all signage, especially in construction zones. Also, I would like to correct a misconception: YOU MUST MAINTAIN THE CONSTRUCTION ZONE SPEED EVEN IF NO WORKERS ARE PRESENT. 4 Volume 1, Issue 3 Page 4 Uncle Milty s Safety Corner Every month the CSA Scores are updated. On March the 6 th the scores revealed a 5% increase in the unsafe driving basic. What is the unsafe driving BASIC? This Basic specifically addresses the requirements within the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSRs) Parts 392 and 397 and refers to the operation of commercial motor vehicles by drivers in a dangerous or careless manner. Some examples: of roadside safety violations that caused this 5% increase included speeding, reckless driving, improper lane change, failure to wear seatbelt, lane restriction, failure to obey traffic control device and inattention. These violations or preventing them is strictly under the control of the driver. Our goal is to reduce and ultimately eliminate all of these types of violations. Every driver must take responsibility for his/her driving behavior. So be a professional driver and always operate within the rules and regulations. Milton Van Horn Direct of Safety IT S THE LAW! IT S THE LAW! If you are using an on-board recording device, (i.e. PeopleNet), Under FMCSA Regulation ; Automatic on-board recording devices; section (g) On-board information. During a traffic stop or for a roadside inspection while in your commercial motor vehicle, you will be in violation of the law, if you do not readily present to the officer: (1) An instruction sheet describing in detail how data may be stored and retrieved from an automatic on-board recording system; and (2) A supply of blank driver's records of duty status graph-grids sufficient to record the driver's duty status and other related information for the duration of the current trip. So THIS IS MANDATORY: if you do not have the PeopleNet instruction pamphlet and a Driver s Daily Log Book, you can get them by contacting the Falcon Transport Corporate office or any one of our maintenance shops. 5 Volume 1, Issue 3 Page 5 Keep Your Medical Certificate UP TO DATE WITH YOUR STATE DRIVER LICENSE AGENCY Drivers are responsible to keep their CDL as well as their medical certification up to date and current. State Driver License Agency will be monitoring the medical certificate expiration dates of all CDL holders. Don t wait till the last moment check the expiration date on your medical card if you are within thirty days of expiration contact the compliance department and get scheduled for a new DOT physical. If your state does not have a current medical examiner s certificate in your CDLIS record, they will downgrade you to not-certified, and your CDL license may be downgraded or suspended. What this means to your CDL depends on your State requirements. The status on your CDLIS driver record will be changed to not certified. Each state differs in the number of days until the downgrade process is implemented. Each state differs on the time period at which you lose your CDL and are required to retest. Each state has their own requirements and fees to get back your CDL privileges.
