1 PRE 48 SECTION NEWS - JANUARY Hello to all Pre 48 Riders, Well another year has flown by, and we are now ready for 2016, with some exciting new Pre 48 Runs. The Pre 48 Section of the IHC is going strong since our start in 2013, and I have had great comments and compliments back from club members on the rides we run over that time. Members seem to appreciate the short runs for older bikes and camaraderie with the older bikes, so this year we have a few different runs for you to try out. You will need to read your newsletter well and book your accommodation as we have a new overnight run being organised by Hamish Cowan and Steve Turner. Also, most runs will be Strictly Pre 48, while like the Tiddlers Run, it will be open to small capacity club eligible bikes of any year. We will also be trialling a Marshalled Run, which will involve all IHC members, but in a different way. We will also be having a few Social Nights, but you will be informed of the dates in plenty of time to attend. So stay tuned for your updates, and hope to see you all out and about at the Pre 48 events. 2 PRE 48 ONLY QUINDANNING OVERNIGHT RUN An overnight Pre 48 Run has been planned by Hamish Cowan and Steve Turner, and will be over the weekend of Saturday 30 th April and Sunday 1 st May. The run on Saturday will take you out through the back roads to Collie and then on to our overnight stay at sunny Quindanning. You will be able to order yourself a lovely country pub dinner with your mates, and accommodation with a continental breakfast, or you can treat yourself to a fully cooked breakfast. On Sunday you will head off to Dwellingup, then back roads to Waroona and Bunbury. The run will be open to other Veteran and Vintage bike clubs, but it is strictly Pre 48. Partners are welcome to meet you at Quindanning, and a backup trailer will be provided for your gear. Less than 180km per day. Accommodation must be booked direct with the Quindanning Tavern. Quindanning Accommodation To book accommodation please ask to speak to Rowan or Neta on Room Configuration is as follows 4 x Queen, 2 x twin single, 2 x triple (contains 1 x double and 1 x single), and 10 x double. Prices are: $55/single with complimentary continental breakfast or $65/single with cooked breakfast or $75/double with complimentary continental breakfast or $95/double with cooked breakfast. Please make a decision on which breakfast you would like for catering purposes. Bookings need to be made with a $30. Deposit for each room. This can be made by credit card over the phone. 3 11 TH NATIONAL VETERAN MOTORCYCLE RALLY Sunday 17 th 22 nd SEPTEMBER 2017, NURIOOTPA, SOUTH AUSTRALIA If you have a Veteran Motorcycle Pre 1919 Keep reading as you may like to get it out of the shed and join a great bunch of people for a great week. Don t wait until you retire! Do it now. The Rally will be hosted by the Vintage Motor Cycle Club of South Australia in The rally headquarters will be run from The Barossa Tourist Park in Nuriootpa, South Australia. MICK TURNER S PRE 48 RUN Mick s Run to be held on Sunday 24 th July, will start and finish at 1 Ray Court, Gelorup. Start time is 10am. The run will be approximately 50-60kms and will be Veteran Motorcycle friendly, so feel free to get out your oldest bike for the day. The run will finish with a BBQ afterwards. The Barossa Tourist Park has been bulk booked for the week, so please mention the National Veteran Rally to receive a 5% discount (a maximum discount applies) off their normal rates for cabins and camp sites. There are numerous accommodation options in the region if you're looking for something different - try or the Barossa Visitor Information Centre: T Barossa Tourist Park, Nuriootpa or T For those with classic motoring interests, we expect the 2017 Bay to Birdwood Classic, for vehicles manufactured between 1956 and 31 st December 1978 to be run on the Sunday following the rally. Check We are still 2 years away, but time goes quick, so start planning now.

4 VARIOUS SERVICES In this newsletter, you will see various services available to vintage and veteran motorcyclists. If you are rebuilding or restoring your motorcycle these contacts may be of interest to you. If you use someone that is reliable, and has produced great work for you, let me know so I can add them to the list, for all members! VMCCWA PRE 31 ROARING TWENTIES RUN This year will be the 5 th year of the Roaring Twenties Run to Nannup on 2 nd & 3 rd April, which has become an annual pilgrimage for some lucky riders. Got rusty nuts? "Machinist work shop" recently published information on various penetrating oils. The magazine reports they tested these products for "break out torque" on rusted nuts and bolts. A subjective test was made of popular penetrating oils, with the unit of measure being the torque required to remove the nut from a "scientifically rusted" bolt. Average torque load to loosen nut: No oil used 516 foot pounds WD foot pounds PB Blaster 214 foot pounds Liquid wrench 127 foot pounds Kano Kroil 106 foot pounds ATF/Acetone mix 53 foot pounds The ATF/Acetone mix is a "home brew" mix of 50/50 automatic transmission fluid and acetone. Note this "home brew" released bolts better than commercial product in this one particular test. Our local machinist group mixed up a batch, and we all now use it with equally good results. Note that liquid wrench is almost as good as Kroil for 20% of the price. ATF/Acetone is the best, but you can also use ATF and laquer thinner in a 50/50 mix. ATF= any type of Automatic transmission fluid. The event is run, to encompass the Roaring Twenties and you must ride a Pre 31 machine, in the spirit of the event. This a lovely weekend, which starts in Boyanup and finished back at Boyanup with a social BBQ. Entry form is attached and you need to book your own accommodation in Nannup. There are 2 closing dates for entries. If you want a T-Shirt to commemorate the event you need to enter by 2 nd March, if not the entry cut-off is the 25 th March.

5 Everyone enjoyed the Pre 48 Over Christmas Run, with 32 riders and 2 passengers. This included 8 veteran motorcycles. Great turn out, even with the hot day. OK Union - a new bike for the Pre 48 Section.
