2 Executive Summary - Masdar City, Abu Dhabi. Masdar City Facilities Management have identified and evaluated a means to reduce Air Conditioning Energy Consumption and Electricity Costs for their Air Conditioner Split DX Systems, by fitting of the EnviroTech UK designed and manufactured microprocessor AC Saver Control System to the existing 1 ton Air Conditioning Unit in the Masdar Electrical Room in Block 2, Masdar City. This evaluation report demonstrates exceptional Air Conditioining Energy Savings in electricity kwh consumption in the region of 19%, even when taking this highly beneficial Energy Savings there are also additional benefits to this % saving value as it also enhances:- The running of the AC Compressors. The corporate reputation and profile of Masdar City. Reductions the CO2. The end of overcooling of the AC Unit. Extended Compressor lifetime. The benefits of large financial returns through the reduction of existing and future property Air Conditioning Energy Consumption and Electricity Costs which clearly have considerable operational cost saving implications for Masdar City and Masdar Institute as a whole. In addition, good corporate energy efficiency practice also demonstrates good corporate citizenship of Masdar and is in keeping with the company s Corporate Management Goals (CMG). 3 EnviroTech Air Conditioning Energy Saver Evaluation Report for Masdar City EnviroTech AC Saver installed at Masdar City Electrical Room, Abu Dhabi, UAE. Objective The objective of this Energy Saving Evaluation report is to demonstrate the beneficial savings by installing the EnviroTech AC Saver to the 1 ton DX AC Unit. This evaluation report will also determine the level of kwh Energy Savings achieved with the AC Saver assisting in the control of the AC Unit Compressor and preventing the overcooling of the AC coil temperatures. Determining the Evaluation The AC Saver evaluation has been completed on the basis of comparison as the existing AC cooling unit was monitored by a digital kwh meter with and without the AC Saver in saving mode, the cooling medium cycle logged in the two states and compared to determine the percentage kwh energy consumption reduction. Equipment List The data logging equipment comprised of:- 1. 1no Digital kwh Meter Evaluation of the Air Conditioning Unit The AC Unit on which the trial was conducted was a 1.0 ton AC Digital Packge Unit. The AC Saver had been installed and connected to the AC Unit in the Electrical Room in the Block 2 Building. The AC unit is of the Standard Packaged Split Type with an indoor cold air unit and an outdoor compresor unit, controlled from a Return Air Temperature (RAT) controller which is supplied as an integral part of the complete AC Unit with the thermostat set at 22 degrees. 4 Testing Criteria This evaluation provided a direct comparison between the EnviroTech AC Saver in control mode or savings mode and in bypass mode where the AC Unit operates as normal without any energy saving control. The Electrical Room set point temperature of 22 degrees remained constant throughout the evaluation period for consistancy purposes, the electrical room was also used as normal and there were no special conditions during any element of this evaluation. The AC Unit kwh meter readings were taken on a daily basis by Masdar and EnviroTech and this report shows the end of week values of the kwh meter reading results of each measurement period. 5 Data Results AC POWER CONSUMPTION The typical data graphs show daily logged air conditioning power consumption of an AC Unit:- Without AC Saver (Typical Graph over 7 days with the AC Saver not operating) With AC Saver (Typical Graph with the AC Saver operating) It can clearly seen by comparing the two graphs the reduced run time of the AC compressor. 7 EnviroTech Test Assessment The operating conditions of the AC Unit during the Air Conditioning Energy Saving Evaluation for the whole period are considered to be typical days, the time of year and for the site, equipment and application. Assessment Calculations Compressor Optimisation So from the accumulated kwh Energy Consumpation data the following substitutions can be made by the following calculation:- (original power consumption log events minus new power consumption log events) / original power consumption) x 100 to give the percentage change in energy consumption and energy savings. Comparisons ( ) = 10.9 kw / HR Saving = 19% Air Conditioning Energy Saving 19% overall improvement in compressor operation. From the kwh Energy Saving data it can be seen that the EnviroTech AC Saver saves approximately 19.2 mins of compressor run time each operational hour. 8 EnviroTech Conclusion 1. It can be stated that air conditioned room comfort / cooling control is not compromised by the Air Conditioning Energy Saving System. 2. The large gain in Air Conditioning Energy Savings demonstrates the viability and the general operational quality of the EnviroTech AC Saver System. 3. Clearly, if the EnviroTech AC Saver is implemeted throughout the numerous Masdar AC Units the savings would run into hundredes of thoudans if not millions of Dirhams. The EnviroTech AC Energy Saver is proven to make excellent Energy Savings in Electricity Consumption and Electricity Costs.
