The battery must be fully charged before initial operation. For mains supply use, refer to paragraph 5.6. For battery use, refer to paragraph 5.7. OEM005 Version 1.0 Page 3

5 5.2 Switching on the Device Press the mains switch (figure 1, item b). 5.3 Operating the Star Grip Twist and hold the star grip (figure 2) in the direction of the corresponding symbol: Figure 2 Star grip operation Open the device by turning the star grip (in a clockwise direction) to the open symbol:. This action extends the piston within the device. Close the device by turning the star grip (in an anti-clockwise direction) to the close symbol:. This action retracts the piston within the device Dead-man s Function 5.4 Chains If the star grip is released, it automatically returns to the central position and stops operating, ensuring the full load-holding is maintained. The chain set comprises of two chains 2.2m in length. Each chain is fitted with a quick-lock locking device and a hook on one end. They are intended to be used to pull objects together or pull an object away from a casualty Operation Open spreaders fully and connect the chain set to the spreaders. Connect the hooks to suitable points. Adjust the chains using the quick-lock locking device. When the chains have been adjusted correctly close the spreaders. OEM005 Version 1.0 Page 4

6 If the pulling length that is reached by closing the spreader arms one time is not sufficient, re-open the arms, re-adjust the chains by means of the quick-lock locking device and close the spreader arms. Continue the adjustment process until the desired result is obtained. 5.5 After Use Close the device until the tips are 15mm apart. The device will then be hydraulically and mechanically relaxed. Remove the chains. Figure 3 Lukas Equipment Battery WARNING / CAUTION! Keep batteries that are not in use away from objects that could bridge the electrical contacts. A short-circuit between the battery contacts may result in burns or a fire. If fluid leaks from the battery, it must be cleaned up, using a dry cloth. Wear suitable protective clothing during this process (e.g. rubber gloves and goggles). Avoid direct skin and eye contact with the fluid. In the event of inadvertent contact, rinse with water immediately and consult a doctor, where necessary. Batteries should only be stored in well-ventilated, cool rooms. The maximum storage temperature of 60 C may not be exceeded. Avoid exposing batteries to long-term, direct sunlight during storage. OEM005 Version 1.0 Page 5

7 Figure 4 Lukas Battery Charger 5.6 Power Supply mains operation The Edraulic devices have a unique power supply with integrated electronics, allowing the devices to be operated for an almost unlimited time by connecting them to an external power source. The power supply converts the voltage of the external power source in such a way that it may be used instead of a battery Use Plug the adapter into the equipment in place of the chargeable battery. Connect the other end of the supply to a mains socket or generator. 5.7 Using the Lukas Battery Charger Unplug the power supply (where used) from the mains. Fully press down the two unlocking buttons and pull the battery or power supply carefully out of the device. See figure 5. Do not use force. The battery can now be recharged in the charger (fig. 4). The power supply or a charged battery can be used in the spreader. Insert a charged battery into the device until it reaches the limit stop. The battery or power supply will be automatically locked when correctly inserted. OEM005 Version 1.0 Page 6

Specifically for the Channel Tunnel Emergency Response Centre the equipment remains the property of Eurotunnel. Maintenance and repair will be undertaken by LUKAS under the terms of a maintenance contract. Subsequently, any defects must be reported to Eurotunnel and not KFRS. 8 Technical Information Table 1 shows the technical information for the SP300E Spreader. Table 2 shows the technical information for the Lukas Battery charger.
