5 LED success stories Power plant - HID to LED retrofi t Background: A lighting design team for a major power plant was researching and evaluating cost saving solutions to upgrade outdated conventional high bay style HID, for a wide variety of applications for both indoor and outdoor. Requirements for the fixture included: Robust design and long life UL Listed Class I, Divisions 1 & 2 hazardous ratings Energy savings Lumens per watt Temperature rating Instant on/off Availability Another key factor for the design team was labor savings through retrofit design to reduce cost of installation. Challenge: Find a hazardous rated fixture that would deliver reliable lighting, meet a variety of plant applications and reduce energy consumption and maintenance costs. On top of performance challenges, the plant also needed a proven manufacturer who could provide reliable delivery and support. Power plant - mercury vapor to LED retrofi t Background: A coal power plant was searching for a solution to upgrade their current mercury vapor fixtures. The goal was to improve lighting levels, reduce fixture maintenance frequency and provide safer working conditions in the plant. Challenge: The customer currently had a dual 400 watt mercury vapor fixture which was outdated, difficult to obtain and challenging to change out current lamps. The plant needed to increase light output but save on power costs, which was an obstacle in the older power plants due to overloaded panels. Results: The Industrial High Bay LED Luminaire (IHB13L2A/UNV1 HC) delivered an immediate upgrade in lighting levels and power savings. Maintenance for the fixtures will no longer require a large lift or ballast to change out fixtures, which improves safety concerns from the outdated mercury fixtures. Initially, the company decided to do a try it before you buy it which included four fixtures. After two months, they saw such a significant improvement they ordered the existing 168 IHB fixtures to finish the job. Due to the success of the IHB, there will be future opportunities to provide the company with new products and solutions when needed. Results: Champ VMV and FMV Luminaires delivered the right combination of reliability and long life performance the plant was looking for. The performance of the VMV has been exceptional and met or exceeded the design team s expectations. In fact, the Champ VMV and FMV have been specified and installed in multiple facility projects since and have now become the standard for future projects. Due to the success they had with the VMV and FMV, the facility is eager for information on new products and will not hesitate to specify when an application presents itself. Solar Solar Combiner Boxes Solar Recombiner Boxes Solar Combiner Boxes are used to group input wires/circuits from several arrays and/or solar panels. The combined circuit results in fewer output circuits and combines them into one main buss or feed going to the inverter, saving labor and material costs. Recombiner Boxes are used in larger photovoltaic systems. A recombiner box effectively groups the output wires from several combiner boxes into one main output feed which then goes to the inverter. Compact (SL Series) Solar Combiner Boxes Compact Solar Combiner Boxes are designed and built to provide long, dependable service in a low profile space saving design. Compact Combiners are third party listed to UL1741 to provide long, dependable service. Available in either four or six circuits, with or without fuses. Solar Cable Assemblies and Harnesses Custom-configured Harness Assemblies are constructed using only the highest quality wire, components for durability and longevity.
