13 Introduction of a GHP What is a Gas Powered heat pump System? Yanmar s Gas Powered Heat Pump units provide high efficiency heating and cooling for commercial buildings. By using natural gas and reversible air-source technology, these world-class engines deliver low operating costs, reduce CO 2 emissions and use minimal electricity. While our GHP technology has been a preferred alternative to electric heat pumps (EHP) for 29 years, Yanmar s innovations continue to refine GHP to its highest potential. In a Gas Powered heat pump system, a natural gas engine drives the compressors that compresses the refrigerant. The engine speed varies to regulate the refrigerant volume in a fashion similar to that of an inverter compressor. Reciprocating Engine Scroll Compressor 11

14 Benefits of a GHP 1 Capital Cost Savings Reduced electric infrastructure A Gas Heat Pump unit consumes around 90% less electricity than a similar electric condenser. Therefore, where power to the site is limited and upgrade costs are prohibitive, Gas Heat Pump systems provide a solution which can reduce the overall capital cost of the project. A Gas Heat Pump unit operates on single phase power and significantly reduces electrical infrastructure and associates costs. Electrical infrastructure often requires floor space; reducing the size of electrical infrastructure often expands the floor area available to the developer and increases the commercial value of the building. 2 Efficiency Reduced operating costs A Gas Heat Pump system can provide up to 50% lower running costs than similar electric air conditioning systems. With electric systems, defrost cycles in cold regions can operate for up to 10 min. in every hour; during this period the indoor environment is compromised and the system struggles with low indoor and outdoor conditions before it effectively heats again. The Gas Heat Pump system employs a plate heat exchanger to transfer engine heat to the refrigerant cycle; this available heat source accordingly raises the system operating pressures and avoids the need for long defrost cycles. 23 Overview BUILDING SOLUTIONS System solutions Whether it s for offices, hotels, logistic centres or shops, Yanmar provides the best system solution for optimal heating and cooling for all kinds of spaces. Yanmar s GHP is suitable for air-to-water and air-to-air systems and offers different configurations to suit the climate needs of your building. Air-to-water systems Air-to-water systems use a heat exchanger to convert the thermal energy from the GHP refrigerant to the building s internal water pipes as the cooling and heating medium to the indoor units. The air-to-water GHP comes in two configurations: 1. GHP Chiller The GHP Chiller has an integrated heat exchanger to convert the thermal energy. 2. GHP with Hydrobox The combination of GHP and a Hydrobox can be used where the Hydrobox functions as a remote heat exchanger of the GHP unit. Both configurations are available with optional Domestic Hot Water kit. Air-to-air systems Air-to-air systems use Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) as the cooling and heating medium to the indoor units. The air-to-air GHP comes in three configurations: 3. GHP VRF heating & cooling system The 2 pipe heating & cooling system can control all indoor units for heating or cooling at once. 4. GHP VRF heat recovery heating & cooling system The 3 pipe heating & cooling system can control each individual indoor unit for heating or cooling through their respective branch selector. 5. GHP with direct expansion kit In the direct expansion types of central airconditioning the air used for cooling spaces is directly chilled by the refrigerant in the cooling coil of the air handling unit and therefore the cooling efficiency of the DX systems is higher. Except GHP VRF heat recovery, all configurations are available with optional Domestic Hot Water kit. 21

25 AIR-TO-WATER SYSTEMS BUILDING SOLUTIONS Ms. Roberta Ancillotti (owner) GHP Chiller installation was easy and everything went smoothly The current owner is the sixth generation of the Ancillotti family to run the Alcide Hotel in Valdelsa, between Firenze and Siena since Her ancestor started providing hospitality to the pilgrims travelling from Canterbury to Rome over the old via Francigena route. Nowadays the Hotel has m 2 of surface area and the restaurants can host up to 500 people at the same time. How was the situation beforehand? Heating and domestic hot water was provided by an old traditional boiler; cooling was provided by an electrical chiller. Fan coils and radiators are installed in the rooms and AHU for the restaurants. What has Yanmar done? Yanmar installed 2 Chillers ECWP710J with heat recovery. They provide cooling and heating for the 82 rooms as well as domestic hot water with the heat recovery option. This is combined with a small boiler which works mainly in the winter season. How is the situation now? Flexible heating and cooling system, increased efficiency both in heating and cooling thanks to the chillers modulation. Significant reduction of energy consumption in summer for domestic hot water production. How is the overall performance of the system? The performance is very good. About 60% reduction in energy consumption is expected. During the summer they detected 15 min of working time in 8 days for the boiler. What is your opinion about Yanmar? Ms. Roberta Ancillotti at first had the perception of Yanmar as an extremely innovative company, and although she didn t know exactly the GHP technology, she shared with Yanmar the same principles and values of a sustainable future. 23

Which product do you have from Yanmar? 3 YANMAR GHPs and 3 Hydroboxes. How was the situation beforehand? It is a new building. What has Yanmar done? The aim was to find a reliable, energy-efficient generation system to provide the energy required for cooling and heating the new BVB FanWelt. The system also has to cope with the major challenge of rapidly dissipating the waste heat from several hundred football fans when there are football matches, especially during the summer. How is the overall performance of the system? The use of GHPs, operated with the primary energy source of natural gas, permanently reduces energy costs and is also environmentally friendly, as the pumps use environmental heat from the air as well as the vast quantities of engine waste heat available. The use of gas engine heat pumps, permanently reduces energy costs and is also environmentally friendly. What is your opinion about Yanmar? The customer is extremely pleased with the outcome. How did the installation go? The commitment of Yanmar and KKU is distinguished by efficiency, reliability and quality, which helped BVB to transform its new meeting place into a black and yellow experience centre. 25

The total assets amount of balance sheet in 2016 was Euro How was the situation beforehand? The situation before was without climatization in the offices and function rooms. Now after installing the gas heat pumps we have a constant room temperature during the year. What has Yanmar done? The job was to climatize a new and an existing office building. In this building are the offices of the management board, several employee offices with some function rooms integrated. Yanmar installed two gas heat pumps: ENCP 560J and ENCP 710J. They are working as air-to-air heat pumps. How is the situation now? The gas heat pumps of Yanmar help primarily to climatize the offices with one system, no need for additional rooms for technical items like pumps, boilers etc. The Yanmar GHPs also help to comply with German environmental regulations. How is the overall performance of the system? The overall performance of the system is good, as is also the perception by the customer. We now have a constant room temperature during the year What is your opinion about Yanmar? The building was without any air conditioning; there was only a hot water heating system in place with no cooling or ventilation available. What has Yanmar done? Yanmar has helped Cross Group to design a new cooling, heating & ventilation system that will provide energy-efficient operation using natural gas as the primary energy source. This has reduced the demand on the building s electrical system and allowed the spare electrical power to be used for new production processes and future expansion plans. How is the situation now? The office environment is now improved and provides comfortable working conditions the whole year round. The 3-pipe system provide both heating and cooling, at the same time, thus allowing individual temperature control for each office space. Yanmar GHP system provides comfortable working conditions the whole year round. How is the overall performance of the system? The system is performing as we expected, being reliable, efficient and also with a surprisingly low noise level during operation. What is your opinion about Yanmar? Very positive. With Yanmar s excellent build quality and high level of customer service we confidently expect to see more and more Yanmar GHP units installed in the UK & Ireland. How did the installation go? The installation went very smoothly. With only a single phase electrical supply required we saved time and money when compared to installing a similar sized electrical heat pump unit. 29

Which product do you have from Yanmar? 14 YANMAR GHPs (13 ENCP850J, 1 ENCP450J) in a VRF-system. 3 KKU-RLT-Kits and 40 VRF-indoor units. How was the situation beforehand? It is a new building. What has Yanmar done? Delivery of 14 GHPs and technical support to KKU. This was the biggest project from 2014 to 2016 in Germany so far. How is the overall performance of the system? The customer is very satisfied. They have low costs for maintenance and operating. The systems proved very reliable. Grieshaber was so satisfied that there was an enlargement of the system with 2 new buildings in 2015 and Our opinion about Yanmar? Thumbs up! How did the installation go? There was a very tight time frame for finishing because the customers needed to start to work immediately. Despite this tight time frame everything worked out fine. KKU did sales and also assembly and maintenance for this project. 30

It has very low electrical power consumption and has no cooling tower maintenance or water quality issues. The Engine Heat Recovery permits hot water production in cooling mode.
