Welcome Agenda Update from across the business Recent performance Breakout sessions Q&A Attendees Keith Jipps, Passenger Services Director Great Northern Stuart Cheshire, Passenger Services Director Thameslink Gary Walsh, Area Director East Midlands, Network Rail Steve Hughes, Area Director South, Network Rail GTR senior management
Our contract is unique DfT receives all passenger revenue - we do not retain the fare income The franchise contract has 217 obligations that the DfT has set Key incentives around train performance, service quality (on trains and at stations) and revenue protection Penalised if we don t meet operational targets Incentives around key project milestones
Achievements to date
Improving our stations We are modernising stations to improve our customers experience. We want our customers to have access to more modern technology, use improved and secure station environments and be able to seek support from fully trained employees, more readily available to meet their needs. What we are doing : Staffing 23 GN stations, and 22 TL stations from first to last trains ( We have reduced ticketless travel from 2.6% in 2014 to 1.95% in a year Ticket gates being introduced at 8 GN and 6 TL stations to improve security Improved online retailing, and rolled out the Key smartcard Installing 65 new TVMs Upgrading Customer Information Screens on Hertford Loop line Upgrading lighting across the network Staff receiving new information devices Finalising plans for 2.5m station improvements and introducing a 1m a year for smaller stations Introducing Station Hosts
GTR will introduce the role of Station Host. New roles and skilled teams We have reviewed the use of ticket office opening hours, based on customer demand. Less than 30% of all tickets are sold through a ticket office. Our plans to change opening hours is going through a public consultation Our Hosts will assist customers when buying tickets, and are able to sell them also. They will be available and accessible on the station concourse where our customers need them most All Station Hosts will have enhanced customer service training
Many stations that are currently unstaffed for large parts of the day, especially evenings and weekends, will now be staffed all day, every day. Ticket office and station staffing hours Our Hosts will be available to assist with ticket sales for times beyond existing ticket office opening hours. They will have modern handheld devices, allowing them to sell tickets and provide accurate customer information Our Hosts will provide support and reassurance for all customers using our stations, more freely available to assist customers especially those with impaired mobility We will staff these stations from the first train to the last, We will increase the opening hours of facilities such as waiting rooms, toilets and lifts On Thameslink and Great Northern we are increasing the number of customer service staff. Version 0.1 7
We are introducing more ways to pay to make passenger journeys easier and New technology and more provide ways choice to pay based on their needs, with the reassurance that they have the best product for their needs. We know that lots of customers use smartcards and contactless and book tickets on-line and we will continue to provide multiple options: The key - On line Oyster/contactless - TVMs Station Hosts - Ticket Office We are developing our systems further to improve the ease of buying tickets
Class 700s update Seven new Class 700 trains in the UK, stabled at the newly opened Three Bridges Depot Testing has commenced and is flushing out any issues prior to going into service. 12 drivers qualified on Class 700 passed out, this will continue to rise rapidly We are working towards accepting the first train imminently
Brand new Moorgate trains On 22 December we announced Siemens as the preferred bidder for the new train fleet for Great Northern suburban services. On 17 February we secured 200m funding contract with Rock Rail The order will be for 25 six-car units (150 vehicles), of a variant of the Class 700, which is being built for the new Thameslink service. Replace Class 313 trains built in 1976/7 Enter service by the end of 2018 on routes to and from Welwyn and Hertford, Stevenage and Letchworth. Key features Fixed length with full width inter-vehicle gangways, creating more space for passengers on board (there are no intermediate cabs) Air-conditioning The latest in passenger information systems with real-time information Fully accessible and compliant with disability legislation Power points throughout
What do passengers think autumn 2015 Thameslink Great Northern %satisfied/good Overall satisfaction with journeys and station factors Autumn 2015 Autumn 2014 Variance Overall satisfaction with your journey Overall satisfaction with the station Ticket buying facilities Provision of information about train times/platforms The upkeep/repair of the station buildings/platforms Cleanliness of the station The facilities and services The attitude and helpfulness of the staff
Background context South east has seen a phenomenal growth in past 5 years A once in a generation transformation of the railway is underway, with the 6.5bn government-sponsored Thameslink Programme we are 18 months into a four year programme The GTR franchise aims to manage a huge period of change on the railway, with many committed obligations project and improvements to deliver - while working with Network Rail to minimise the impact of Thameslink on passengers Passengers will gradually see improvements in the quality and reliability of services and information over the next two and half years The full benefits will materialise in 2018
How are we doing? Period 11: 76.29% Public Performance Measure (PPM) Period 11: 81.64% Public Performance Measure (PPM)

Greater consequential impact of primary delays The characteristics of the network have fundamentality changed There is less infrastructure available, and greater complexity and congestion. We are no longer able to recover the service as we once did Reactionary Delay Primary Delay
Change to the organisation Adapting to challenges of this network change Key deliverable is the new trains David Scorey with his engineering and operations background will act as the operational interface with Network Rail and Siemens whilst the trains are introduced. Alex Foulds has been asked to manage Southern and reshape focus of back to basics
Driver recruitment and training The rest day working need fluctuates depending on labour turnover, sickness levels as well as covering for holiday leave and training Biggest recruitment and training programme in the UK Extra drivers needed so we don t rely on rest days Have 30 more services to resource Huge training program for new fleets, services, new depots, routes around LB, timetable changes, ATO Takes over a year to train a driver. Minimum 240hrs practical training & 840hrs learning theory Since January 2015, we brought in 44 newly trained-up drivers on GN & 38 on Thameslink We have 89 drivers in training on GN and 106 on TL
Steady delivery of improvements More qualified drivers - New Class New Gatwick Express - Free Wifi at 104 stations - Platforms 7-9 open - From August, Charing Cross services resume calling at London Bridge. Cannon Street services will not call at London Bridge - Better service information - Longer trains on Uckfiled line Reinstate fourth track approach at London Bridge - Platform 6 re-opens at LB - Automated delay repay - Platforms 1-5 open - Completion of track, signalling and major bridges work around London Bridge station - Station work completes - Southeastern and Thameslink services to and from Cannon Street resume calling at London Bridge - 24 tph through central London - Crossrail interchange at Farringdon - New Moorgate services

Executive Summary Performance of Area Director South is forecast to exit 2015/16 at 121,787 Delay minutes 15% better than target. Increased focus will be on continuing to improve asset reliability and greater control and integration of all delivery agents undertaking work on Area Director South's area. Area Director South s performance programme is developed with a mixture of tactical actions to arrest decline, and longer term strategic initiatives to underpin future performance improvements, Implementing good practice and a back to basics approach in delivering asset reliability. Bedford is forecasting to improve its delay performance by >20% from last year / 22
