Thanks to our years of experience in system engineering, know-how in the steel industry and welding approvals according to DIN 18800, we produce solar trackers according to the latest technology. 4 Dual-axis tracking system for photovoltaic systems A solidly constructed and manufactured solar tracker constitutes the basis for the long-term success of a solar tracking system. KemTRACK is therefore stable against torsion, extremely robust and durable. Each tracker centres on a central supporting tube with an integrated elevation drive at its core. This ensures an improved force distribution across the entire surface of the tracker. All steel components are hot-dip galvanised according to DIN EN The tracker is designed on modular basis, which makes the assembly very simple. Furthermore the tracking systems save a lot of space and shipping them to worldwide destinations in standard containers is fast and inexpensive. The industrial drives used are durable, low-maintenance and extremely stable. The system determines the exact position of the sun from the location, date and time and thus ensures that the solar cells always have the optimum orientation. This principle has the advantage that it works independently of the dominant weather conditions. Just like clockwork, the control runs through all programs, day after day, month after month and year after year. 8 Technology The control heart of the tracker Each solar tracker is equipped with a control unit, which determines on astronomical basis the current position of the sun and aligns the tracker independently from the other trackers optimally to the sun. Only superior information, such as a wind signal or the location coordinates are determined centrally and communicated via the network to all trackers. This technology is very simple and regarding the drives, very low-wear and durable. Just like clockwork, the control runs through all programs and aligns the tracker optimally to the sun. Various additional functions such as special night positions, parking positions or snow disposing functions are very easy to activate and allow scope for individual solutions. Backtracking Thanks to the interconnection in a solar park, the Backtracking function can be applied. This intelligent technology prevents mutual shading of the trackers, which increases the power output of the modules. In the morning, evening and in winter the sun is low and the rays are horizontal. The Backtracking function identifies the risk of mutual shading and lowers automatically the elevation angle. The control calculates fully independently the necessary modifications at the specific time, place and period and guarantees that the trackers return to their ideal position towards the sun, as soon as the altitude of the sun is sufficient. The control has free inputs, so that depending on the requirements, additional project-specific sensors can be connected and evaluated. From this information functions or certain movement patterns for the tracker can be derived (for example rain, snow and temperature). 8

9 Photovoltaic modules for solar tracking systems Our tracking systems offer flexible mounting options for photovoltaic modules. This simplifies the planning of photovoltaic systems and offers many options regarding the system design. As for the costs, when it comes to mounting material and mounting, larger modules have advantages compared to smaller modules. Using for example standard modules with 60 six inch cells, here would be particularly powerful modules beneficial when installing on solar trackers. The additional costs of the modules are put very quickly into perspective by high additional yield, which the KEMPER trackers guarantee, taking into account the life span of the photovoltaic system. This also applies to high performance modules. The choice of modules also depends on the irradiation at a given location as well as the local feed-in tariff. Installation / Monitoring As the long-term and reliable operation of the photovoltaic system is of high importance, you always want to be up to date. With KEMPER you make the right choice. With our internet-based monitoring, errors are detected and measures can be taken. The software also supports you during the installation, which helps saving time, especially regarding larger projects. A tracker network can be built up by different technical solutions. We will be delighted to advise you and help you find the best and most cost effective solution for each project. All controls in a solar park have a unique identification number, so that each tracker can be controlled and evaluated from a distance. Even the charge of an optional UPS battery (uninterruptible power supply) is displayed. The optional UPS battery ensures that the tracker can be moved to its safe position, in case of a power failure. 9

For smaller projects usually a classic concrete foundation is used. Either an underground or, depending on the ground conditions, an overground foundation. The mast is than either directly set into concrete, or bolted onto threaded rods. For drilled or piling foundations, the ground conditions are first tested by an expert and than, based on his report, the foundation for the trackers are designed. To create a drilled foundation a steel element is screwed into the ground. At the top, the element is slightly wider, in order to set the mast of the solar tracker into concrete. For the piling foundation a bore hole is filled with concrete. Afterwards the mast of the tracking system is set in concrete or bolted onto threaded rods. Both methods are especially suitable for larger projects, as the foundations are less expensive and time-consuming to lay compared to classical concrete foundations. Long masts with a ground clearance of up to 4,5 m / 14.7 ft allow the dual use of land Optimal use of unused land Variable mast heights and land utilisation Tracking systems, which are built on a central mast, have many advantages. Not only regarding the yield increase compared to fix installed systems but also the constant system load during sunshine from the morning to evening of nearly 100 % or the preventive protection of the modules and inverters. With solar trackers land can be optimally used. Below the system there is space left for plants or animals. Solar trackers can be equipped with long masts, thereby parking lots e.g. or other agricultural land can be used for solar energy. Also gardens, rain storage reservoir, sewage treatment plants or large sports facilities are eligible. Solar trackers allow the use of unused land. 10
