Lower energy bills, better looking properties, and rebates are just a few of the benefits that come from retrofitting your businesses lighting! A retrofit, or a relighting, is the renovation of your old lighting fixtures and/or bulbs that improves the lighting output and temperature of light all while emitting less heat and saving energy. As the government strives to be greener and to meet our ever-growing expectations of making less impact on the environment, there are many incentives to get you to retrofit. Most cities and states have utility rebates. A rebate is a payback on your retrofit. You re essentially getting paid back a certain percentage of what you paid for your retrofit... because you re taking a step in the right direction. Once you have decided to complete a lighting retrofit on your property, how do you evaluate the differences in competing proposals? The bottom line is that you will want to determine which proposal offers your project the most value and convenience. Do both proposals offer the same services such as full site audits, photometric analysis, energy audit, and rebate research? 5 HOW DOES LED LIGHTING WORK? LEDs are simply diodes that are designed to give off light. When a diode is forward-biased so that electrons and holes are zipping back and forth across the junction. they re constantly combining and wiping one another out. Sooner or later, after an electron moves from the n-type into the p-type silicon, it will combine with a hole and disappear. That makes an atom complete and more stable and it gives off a little burst of energy in the form of a tiny photon of light. This happens quintillions of times per second. 3

8 CHOOSING A RETROFIT PRODUCT Choosing a retrofit product just got a lot easier. We have created this convenient chart and accompanying photos to help you choose the LED retrofit product that will best fit your project. You will notice that the green checked boxes indicate a highly recommended LED retrofit product for that application. The yellow boxes indicate that while you could use it; it s not the perfect retrofit product. The red box indicates that the product is not suitable for that application. In some instances you will see two or even three choices. For example, if you wanted to replace your existing work lights you would have a choice of our large corn lights or our 180 degree corn lights. The latter only lights the front of the area because it is perhaps attached to the ceiling and you might not need light reflecting off the ceiling. Other times, your work lights are located lower and you need lighting above. 9 THE COMCAST CENTER LIGHTING UPGRADE In 2014, Comcast approached Hatzel & Buehler, Inc. to spearhead their search for an alternate lighting concept, which would ultimately replace the fluorescent lighting at the Comcast Center. After thorough research, several product attempts and mock-up installations, a collective decision was made to move forward with ZledLighting. ZLedLighting provided magnetically backed LED retrofit kits, as well as CFL replacement lamps for the Comcast Center Project. Both products install very quickly with minimal tools, and have high efficiency ratings. The magnetic retrofit product installs in less than ten minutes, simply falling into place, turning the entire body of the metal fixture into a heat sink. In addition to offering the most suitable products for the Comcast Center, ZLedLighting s installation experience and product knowledge further distinguished them. In partnership with ZledLighting, Hatzel & Buehler was able to meet Comcast s extremely aggressive schedule for completion. Despite the difficult floor-plan and high ceilings, the simplified design and compactness of the ZLedLighting products provided a more efficient installation, when compared to conventional fixture replacements. The lighting replacement project will yield an energy savings of over 39,000 KWH per floor and an estimated 1,600,000 KWH annually. The entire project is expected to see an estimated annual 61% decrease in lighting load per floor, which will generate a 19 month return on investment. ZLED-LIGHTING.COM (800)

12 SMALL CORN LAMPS Small LED Corn Lamps are great for a variety of retrofit applications. They are perfect for post tops, bollards and recessed cans. They are very easy to install, coming in a wide assortment of wattages. colors and bases to replace nearly every CFL and incandescent bulb currently in use. Remove the CFL or incandescent bulb(s). Remove the cap and any diffusers/ lens. Disconnect power and remove CFL bulb. Direct wire the fixture to the power supply and insert the CFL adapter 10 Replace with equivalent Small LED Corn Lamp(s). They are very easy to Install, coming In a wide assortment of wattages, colors and bases to replace nearly every HID, CFL and incandescent bulb in use. They are perfect for situations where you require light in only one direction. Typically reflectors are used with HIDs or CFLs but this lamp conserves energy by only emitting 180 light. Disconnect the power supply and remove the cover. Remove the HID or CFL lamp from the fixture. Cut the wires from the ballast to the socket. Wire the power supply to the socket. 30 RECESSED DOWNLIGHT RETROFIT Recessed downlight retrofits are an easy alternative to installing new fixtures when you want to upgrade to LED and select a new reflector and trim kit. They are designed for use with existing 6 architectural housings measuring at least 5-5/8 high with an inside diameter between 6-3/8 and 7-1/4.They are high efficiency LED with internal dimmable driver and suitable for damp locations. Reflectors come in clear, haze, gold, champagne and pewter. Trim options include black and white. Disconnect power and pull trip and reflector down from ceiling. Disconnect ballast (if CFL) and remove. Remove socket and wire from the electrical box. Wire the retrofit kit to the electrical box, attach the driver to the box or framing kit.
