The precise control of light output afforded by electronic HID ballasts allows energy costs to be reduced by up to 65% while allowing lower installation and maintenance costs. The ballast allows lumen output to be maintained above 90% over the lamp life, and provides flicker-free consistent color temperature and uniformity between lamps for exceptional light quality. Analog and digital dimming capabilities allow greater control over lighting systems than traditional HID systems, providing even more potential energy savings. The compact design combines all the components of a traditional HID system into one integrated unit with a small enough size to enable it to be used in many different applications. The stability provided by the electronic ballast extends the lamp life and dramatically reduces the frequency of lamp replacement, lowering maintenance costs throughout the life cycle of the ballast. Dimming can be controlled to accommodate human activity, daylight harvesting, and interactive lighting systems. Featuring ballast power factors between 0.9 to 0.98, these ballasts exceed the requirements of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which regulates ballast efficiencies for metal halide lamps. In addition, electronic HID ballasted fixtures may qualify for rebates from local utility companies, further offsetting initial replacement costs.

Analog sensors, dimmers, and timers control lighting according to human activity (when someone enters a warehouse), light harvesting scenarios (fluctuations in environmental lighting), and time (off-peak periods require less light). Digital dimming is achieved through control software or integrating with existing monitoring and control systems.
