8 South African Coal Rail System Development Coal exports to 81 Mtpa + Project Description: The project incorporates a combination of significant capital expenditure and operational optimisation initiatives to increase the overall coal export system to 81 mtpa to Europe, India and China Project Scope: Environmental and FEL-3/4 feasibility studies; Line and yard expansions; Electrical power upgrades and power overhead traction equipment; Satellite operations centre; Rolling stock Condition monitoring equipment Project Schedule: Project due for completion in 2017/18

10 South African Coal Rail System Development Waterberg Feeder Rail Development Project Description: The short to medium and long-term development of the Waterberg feeder rail system to complement domestic and export coal requirements` Project Scope: Rail infrastructure expansion through incremental upgrades of the existing rail networks and Yards configurations to achieve up to about ~23 Mmtpa. (Feasibility in progress) Beyond this level, a new heavy haul line from Lephalale to Ermelo will be considered. (Concept study already completed) Possible New Line to Botswana Rail System Lephalale Thabazimbi Atlanta Turf / Clay Conditions Project Schedule: The pre-feasibility study to be concluded in 2012 Incremental upgrades construction to commence in 2012 up until 2017 Rustenburg Pyramid Hammanskraal New Line if demand > 30mtpa Ogies Broodsnyer splaas Ermelo
11 South African Coal Rail System Development Domestic Coal Backbone System Project Description: Upgrading the existing domestic coal rail system to meet future demands. This includes migration of 32mtpa Eskom coal from road to rail based on the anticipated burn plan per power station and capacity of rail infrastructure connecting to the power stations. 12 South African Coal Rail System Development Swaziland Rail Link Project Description: The establishment of a strategic rail link with 20 ton minimum axle loading from Ermelo utilising the Buhrmanskop - Lothair branch line to connect with the Swaziland rail network, and onwards to the Ports of Richards Bay and Maputo. Project Scope: To identify a technically feasible route from Davel (Dalo), linking into the Swaziland network at Sidvokodvo which will allow the passage of 100 wagon train lengths. The scope includes the development of a rail network linking Lothair and SwaziRail networks and upgrades of the connecting networks. The rail network system to provide capacity ranging from 16Mtpa to 33mtpa.
