The stage is semicircular in shape with a clear-coated maple floor on wooden sleepers. The floor is designed for acoustic performance and is not sprung for dance performance. A choir loft is located 3 meters above and behind the stage. Above the choir loft is the Davis Concert Organ, an instrument containing 6551 pipes. Access to the stage is by Downstage Left and Downstage Right entrances. There is no proscenium, main curtain or masking. Wing space is limited to a crossover hall approximately 3.5 meters wide and 3.8 meters high. Stage Dimensions Downstage Width meters (61-2 ) Depth at Centre stage 13.7 meters (44-11 ) Acoustical Properties The Francis Winspear Centre for Music was designed with superior acoustical properties for live performance. The ability to introduce adjustable wall treatments surrounding the performance chamber allow for reverberation time control. A two section canopy above the stage can also be set at various trims to control compression factors on stage. In addition to these acoustical treatments, we also have a dark green velour drape (40 high X 100 wide) that hangs from our curved truss upstage to further assist with acoustic control during amplified performances. 3 Loading Area Page 3 Loading Dock Two bays are available, each capable of handling full length semi trailers. The dock is at stage level approximately 20 meters from the stage area (short, level push). Access to the loading dock is from 102A Avenue, north side of building, via the parking lot. Production Parking With advance notification, Bus parking is available adjacent to the loading dock. In the case where there is only one production truck, it may be able to stay in the loading dock, leaving one bay available for other facility deliveries. Other vehicles will have to be parked at the production s expense in local parking lots. Shore Power 1 panel is available for bus shore power with: 3 50A 120/208V single phase stove plugs 6 15A 115V single phase utility receptacles Rigging All rigging points are dead hangs with a capacity of 1000 kilograms each. The engineered points are laid out in a straight, symmetrical line set pattern of six rows. Line sets 0 thru 4 have seven points each, spaced 2.5 meters apart while line set 5 has five points. In each line set, the middle point is aligned with centre stage. The truss is permanently hung on five one ton chain motors and used for the hanging of our acoustic drape and programmable lighting fixtures as well as touring production elements. Rigging Safety Fall arrest systems are mandatory for all production trussing used.

A second DMX2 line is used for the in-house moving light fixtures located on our upstage truss. The main in-house control position is located in a booth at the rear of the hall. Three other locations inside the hall are pre-wired, Stage Right, centre of hall and Stage Left Broadcast Booth. A remote pendant is available for focus sessions. Lighting control is provided by a Martin Maxxyz Compact + 48 subwing. The dimming system is comprised of 3 CD-80SV racks with watt, 800 microsecond dimmers. House lights are operated from a separate control console and dimmers. Page 5 Permanent Lighting Positions The Concert Hall was designed primarily for symphony orchestra concerts and has a standard house hang that provides even illumination across the stage. In addition to the concert lighting, we are able to focus a number of instruments to accommodate other performances. There is also full access to the 64 channel passive Lundahl isolated split as well as 18 dry tie lines that are patchable from the performance area directly to the suite. Intercom and video (BNC) patching provided. 96 split channels are also available directly from SSL stage boxes. 9 Davis Concert Organ Built by Orgues Letourneau Limitee, the Davis Concert Organ, Opus 50, Canada s largest concert organ is a four manual with 6551 pipes, 96 stops and 122 ranks. Equipped with adjustable acoustic banners, hardwood floor, small PA and 100 amp power supply, this space is available for rental separate from the Concert Hall. Green Room / Lounge Located adjacent to the stage door and dressing room area, Barney s Lounge is equipped with tables and chairs and a stage monitor. Suitable for performer & crew catering needs. 10 Page 10 Labour Supply The Winspear Centre has a house staff comprising Audio, Lighting and Stage departments. Additional production staff is supplied by IATSE Local 210 through collective agreement with the Winspear Centre. Any crewing questions should be directed to the Winspear Centre Technical Director. Equipment Rentals Supply of all production equipment rental needs is available locally. The Winspear Centre can arrange for delivery of requested equipment or provide a listing of suppliers able to meet your requests. For information, contact the Technical Director. Fire & Smoke The Francis Winspear Centre for Music is a non smoking facility subject to City bylaw enforcement. Non compliance with the no smoking policy can result in additional charges being assessed to the client. Pyrotechnics are not permitted to be used in the Winspear Centre. Also, all open flame, including candles, is strictly forbidden.
