1 S E R A I Gate Automation Division INSTALLATI MANUAL SR CTROL UNIT TO COMMAND 1 OR 2 12/24Vdc MOTORS FOR THE AUTOMATI OF SWING GATES Thank you for choosing a SERAI ELETTRICA product, which we are confident will perform to your requirements. Please be advised that you are about to fit a system classified as a poweroperated drive designed to move automatic gates and doors in commercial or residential buildings accessed by vehicles and persons, and as such, the system must be considered potentially hazardous. By law, you are responsible for rendering this equipment as safe as is reasonably possible. Installation and maintenance of equipment of this kind must therefore be carried out by skilled, qualified and trained personnel, working in a professional manner, as provided for by law n. 46/90 and any subsequent amendments and supplements. The law in question prohibits the construction of these types of systems by nonqualified personnel. 2 CTROL UNIT INSTALLATI CTROL UNIT POSITIING Position the equipment in the vicinity of the gate, so that the length of the cables for connection to the rest of the system are as short as possible. For further protection against atmospheric agents, position the control unit under a canopy or for improved protection in an enclosure also fitted with two lateral walls. The equipment should also be installed at a height of at least 1.5 metres, to keep it out of the reach of children. The control unit is supplied with the cover positioned for opening from the lefthand side. To invert the opening side, proceed as follows: SETTING THE COVER FOR OPENING TO RIGHT CAUTI: This operation must be performed before fixing the enclosure to the wall. Insert a slotted screwdriver in the hinge fixture slot on the rear of the base and lever the hinge connection tooth while pulling the cover up. Secure the control unit with the cable routing holes facing downwards. For cable inlet routing, the lower section of the enclosure is equipped with seats for cable clamps PG11 and PG 13.5 to be punched out when required. SR CAUTI: Close all inlets carefully to prevent the penetration of insects, which can damage the control unit. CAUTI: Given the weight of the battery, install at the end of assembly, before closing the box. Cable routing BOX OPENING AND CLOSING When opening the box, ensure that the hinges protrude sufficiently from the guide on the base to ensure that the cover remains open without obstructing control unit wiring operations. Always accompany the cover when closing, above all when the battery is fitted, until it returns completely inside the hinges, taking care that the seal is inserted correctly. Close the cover with the relative screws. Page 3/11

6 KEY TO TERMINALS, Input for power supply of electronic board supplied via a toroidal transformer fitted with special protection fuse (F1). The wires on exit from the transformer must be used, taking into account the relative voltage: RED 0V (common) BLACK 12Vac (DO NOT USE) YELLOW 15Vac (for motors and lamp at 12Vdc, e.g. SERAI MT/20) ORANGE OR GREEN 20Vac (for motors and lamp at 24Vdc, e.g. SERAI MT/71, MT/C2, MT/C4, MT/C6), Input for connection of buffer batteries (optional) to guarantee automation operation in the event of a mains power failure. When the mains power is present, the electronic board recharges the battery by means of the charger included. With the gate open, the stop command cancels the automatic reclosure time. To reclose the gate a command must be sent external photocell input. A command sent during closing causes the gate to stop for 2 with subsequent automatic reopening. 2 s MANUAL OR AUTOMATIC GATE RECLOSURE Automatic reclosure: after the gate open pause, the gate recloses automatically. If the stepstep function is enabled dip1 OFF a command sent during the reclosure time will interrupt the work cycle and the gate does not close automatically. A second command closes the gate. If the stepstep function is disabled dip1 a command sent during the reclosure time will re the time interval, thus lengthening the period that precedes automatic reclosure. P3 Manual reclosure: the gate remains open until a new command is sent function not enabled when stepstep mode is disabled dip 1 GATE CFIGURATI Single leaf logic: only the output indicated with M2 is activated. Two leaf logic: both outputs M1 and M2 are activated. ELECTRIC LOCK OPERATI MODE TERMINALS 910: ELECTRIC LOCK OR GATE OPEN INDICATOR LIGHT Release stroke enabled: the electric lock is activated during a brief closing phase against the stops, and is deactivated shortly after up of M2. Release stroke disabled: the electric lock is activated shortly before up of M2 and is deactivated shortly after up of M2. Gate open indicator enabled: terminals 910 are enabled for the gate open indicator function. An indicator light (max 12/24V 100mA) can be connected, which remains lit during operation of the motors and when the gate is open; it switches off when the gate is closed. Electric lock enabled: terminals 910 are enabled for the electric lock function. An electric lock can be connected by means of an additional relay as per previous connection diagram. This output is activated for a couple of seconds on up of the motors. Page 7/11

8 WORK TIMES The motor operation time is controlled by two independent digital timers. If any command interrupts gate travel before the end, the timer stops and the time elapsed is memorized. The equipment is therefore able to calculate, to an approximate value, the partial work time required to complete the manoeuvre, always implementing the deceleration phase at the set point. CAUTI: In the case of battery operation only, deceleration does not take place. For correct operation of the automation, the work time must be set so that it is a few seconds more that the effective time of gate travel. CAUTI: Power supply failure to the electronic board (either mains or battery) causes loss of the memorized position. Subsequently, on initial activation, a command is activated in opening without activation of the current sensitivity control, and the gate realigns on the opening end stops. Before activating the control unit, program the work times as required. WORK TIME PROGRAMMING Before programming, ensure that the motor is fixed to the relative brackets and that the gate is completely closed. Read the following procedure carefully before programming. 1 PRESS P2 LED DL1 is permanently lit and both motors up in opening 6 When the leaf connected to M1 is at cm before the closing end stop, PRESS P2 and motor M1 s the deceleration phase. This distance is memorized and also used in the opening phase. 2 While both motors are ing up in opening, use to set the speed to be subsequently used during the deceleration phase. CAUTI: If potentiometer is set at an excessively low value, the gate will not open. It is recommended to set ing from the maximum value and gradually decreasing this to the minimum. CAUTI: This setting must be made during the opening phase and before the leafs reach the opening end stops. 7 CAUTI: For correct operation, it is essential that deceleration does not too close to the end stop; a distance of cm is recommended. Failure to observe this distance may lead to a control unit malfunction, for example after impact with the end stops the leafs reopen. When the leaf connected to M2 is at cm before the closing end stop, PRESS P2 and motor M2 s the deceleration phase. This distance is memorized and also used in the opening phase. 3 4 When both leafs have reached the opening end stops, PRESS P2. CAUTI: After pressing P2 the motors remain up against the leafs for a few seconds and then stop, while LED DL1 turns off and then on again with a steady light. When LED DL1 is permanently lit, PRESS P2 to close M1. 8 CAUTI: For correct operation, it is essential that deceleration does not too close to the end stop; a distance of cm is recommended. Failure to observe this distance may lead to a control unit malfunction, for example after impact with the end stops the leafs reopen. When the leaf connected to M1 reaches the closing end stop, let an interval of a few seconds pass and then PRESS P2 for motor M1 to be shut down. 5 PRESS P2, to close M2. CAUTI: The delay with which P2 is pressed with respect to motor M1 ing up in opening is memorized and sets the closing delay time of motor M2 with respect to M When the leaf connected to M2 reaches the closing end stop, let an interval of a few seconds pass and then PRESS P2 for motor M2 to be shut down. LED DL1 turns off and the control unit automatically quits the programming phase, having memorized all parameters for correct operation. Page 8/11 In the case of single leaf programming, skip points 5, 7, and 9. To modify one of the parameters memorized in the above programming procedure, repeat programming from the beginning.

9 1) Press P3 until LED DL1 turns on. AUTOMATIC RECLOSURE TIME PROGRAMMING 2) After waiting for the required pause time to elapse, press P3 again. LED DL1 turns off and the automatic reclosure time is memorized. RADIO CTROL CODE LEARNING CAUTI: A mini transmitter must be programmed before it is used. The maximum number of codes that can be stored is 48 distributed as required between 2 channels (e.g pedestrian, pedestrian etc.). The electronic board incorporates a MHz 2channel radio receiver which allows remote gate control via radio control types OG/52, OG/54, OG/62, OG/64, OG/82/1, OG/84, OG/28 and OG/48. Both channels are used solely for gate control; more specifically, channel 1 of the radio receiver serves for the function, while channel 2 is used for the pedestrian function. CAUTI: The builtin receiver cannot be used to control other external utilities or equipment. For this purpose, an external receiver must be used, such as SERAI OG/76. To learn the radio control code, proceed as follows: 1) Start code learning Press P1; LED DL1 illuminates, turns off for a few seconds and then lights up again; While LED DL1 is lit, press the button on the mini transmitter to be used as the control, and keep it pressed until LED DL1 switches off; When LED DL1 turns off, the code is memorized. 2) Pedestrian code learning Press P1; LED DL1 illuminates and then turns off for a few seconds; While LED DL1 is off, press P1 again; LED DL1 illuminates, turns off and then lights up again; While LED DL1 is lit, press the button on the mini transmitter to be used as the pedestrian control, and keep it pressed until LED DL1 switches off; When LED DL1 turns off, the pedestrian code is memorized. Press and hold P1 for approx. 10s until led DL1 turns off. CLEARING OF STORED CODES Page 9/11

10 SAFETY CURRENT SENSITIVITY CTROL The control unit is equipped with a control of current absorption, designed to intervene in the event of impact with an obstacle during movement at normal speed. The current level, over which the current sensitivity control is activated, is set automatically during the work time programming procedure. BEHAVIOUR IMPACT WITH AN OBSTACLE FOLLOWING ACTIVATI OF THE CURRENT SENSITIVITY CTROL during opening at normal speed during closing at normal speed during opening/closing at low speed the gate inverts movement through to the closing end stop and then stops awaiting a new command; the gate inverts movement through to the opening end stop. It recloses after the gate open pause time (if dip2 ) or after 30 s (if dip2 OFF). the gate stops, i.e. the obstacle is interpreted as a travel end stop. MODIFYING THE CURRENT SENSITIVITY LEVEL The current level set automatically during the work time programming procedure can be increased or decreased as required by means of the following procedure: 1) Press P1 and P2 simultaneously; LED DL1 s flashing the number of times corresponding to the number of amps set as the current sensitivity control. 2) Press P1 the number of times corresponding to the number of amps to be set (minimum 1A maximum 10A). Each time P1 is pressed, LED DL1 should flash once. 3) Press P2 to confirm; LED DL1 emits one flash for confirmation. CAUTI: If an excessively low current level is set, friction increase or motor up torque may be detected as impact or as obstacle. Ideally maintain the level set automatically during programming. REDUCTI IN SENSITIVITY Intervention of the current sensitivity control may be fast or slow depending on the set sensitivity. In the case of high sensitivity it intervenes within 1 s, and in the case of low sensitivity it intervenes within 3 s. To modify sensitivity, set automatically to high during work time programming, proceed as follows: 1) Press P2 and P3 simultaneously; LED DL1 flashes three times. 2) Press P3 to set low sensitivity or P1 for high sensitivity. The LED flashes three times for confirmation. DISABLING CURRENT SENSITIVITY CTROL The current sensitivity control intervenes each time the gate stops movement for a brief interval due to external factors, e.g. gusts of wind, impact with a person etc. Therefore in particularly windy areas, movement inversion may be frequent. For this reason there is the option to disable the current sensitivity control, set automatically during the work time programming procedure. To disable, proceed as follows: 1) Press P1 and P2 simultaneously; LED DL1 s flashing the number of times corresponding to the number of amps set as the current sensitivity control. 2) Press P1 11 times; each time P1 is pressed LED DL1 should flash once. 3) Press P2 to confirm; LED DL1 emits one flash for confirmation. CAUTI: If the current sensitivity control is disabled, protection against impact with the gate is reduced as the gate continues to move with maximum force it is therefore the installer s responsibility to adopt all other safety systems such as the use of sensitive edges as specified by current standards. 11 TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE PROBLEM CAUSE SOLUTI The gearmotor is not working No power supply to motors Check the motor power supply input terminals to see if they are live Check that the power supply cable is not cut or broken (cable replacement must be carried out by an authorised. technician) Check the control unit fuses No power supply to control unit Check the mains fuse and power supply connection Check battery power supply (if fitted) Impact with end stops inverts movement Incorrect settings of deceleration point Repeat work time programming taking care to set to deceleration time to at least 50 70cm from the end stop The gate occasionally does not complete the entire deceleration distance but stops beforehand During movement at normal speed the gate inverts movement Deceleration speed set with too low Work time too short Current sensitivity control intervention SET POTENTIOMETER TO MAXIMUM: the potentiometer decreases both the speed and power of the motor, and therefore an excessively low setting may cause the gate to stop before reaching the mechanical end stop. This stop depends also on the external environmental conditions, which vary greatly between summer and winter and in early hours of the day with respect to the central hours, and this is why the gate may behave in this way. Repeat the work time programming, setting a higher speed on the potentiometer IREASE WORK TIME: during the programming phase, if a work time is set greater by only 12 s with respect to the gate manoeuvre time, it may not be sufficient to compensate for the loss in time due to external factors for example cold temperatures which reduce the gate speed. A work time that it is 67 s greater than the manoeuvre time is recommended DISABLE THE CURRENT SENSITIVITY CTROL: The current sensitivity control intervenes each time the gate stops movement for a brief interval due to external factors, e.g. gusts of wind. Therefore in particularly windy areas an increase of the current sensitivity level to 10 is recommended, or disable the control by setting the level to 11. However, in this case protection against impact with the gate is reduced as the gate continues to move with maximum force it is therefore the installe s responsibility to adopt all other safety systems such as the use of sensitive edges as specified by current standards A4Vf/r IS CR39ISE During gate movement, the motor moves with difficulty Insufficient power supply to motors or at the Authorised Service Centres.
