2 Competing Issues From detailed tidal flow studies, Wind Farm Field development owners know that their Sub Station (SS) and Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) foundation piles may be subjected to scour brought about by high tidal flow. To overcome this problem Rock Dump Scour Protection is often adopted. This gives rise to the problem of how to install the Export and Field array cables into the SS and WTG J Tubes without incurring damage to the power cables. 3 The Wind Farm The 35km² Sheringham Shoal Offshore Wind Farm is based in water depths of 15 and 22 metres, with an impressive 88 wind turbine generators. The turbines are connected via the inter array cables and fed back to two offshore substations. Scope of Work Specialist design and fabrication of a HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) pipe sleeve was required for this subsea project. This corrosion resistant cover will protect the power supply cable which runs from the offshore wind farm to the onshore substation. Pipex px supplied and fabricated 36 No. spools ranging from 18 M 23 M totalling 750 M of pipe sleeve. The pipe is completed in coaxial extruded yellow HDPE to increase the visibility on the seabed. The robust HDPE interlocking pipe system is installed on the seabed using a pull system. The prototype was fully tested offsite at the client s facility prior to installation.
