6 Advantages with Multiple Facilities If your Fleet size is large enough, in my opinion at least 1500 vehicles per facility it might be beneficial. Due to the sheer amount of cost and quantity of vehicles having multiple facilities might work. Each facility s Fleet might need a different style of preventative maintenance. Repair type and training might be specific to that facility s needs.

15 Oil Analysis-Extending Intervals Testing can help to determine the correct amount of interval for oil changes. We tested 5W20 Part Synthetic and 15W40 Motor Oil We tested our vehicle at 5000 miles then ran them another 5000 miles. Testing showed us that at 5,000 miles we were still good for oil condition. At 10,000 miles we tested again and found that we were a little past time for oil change

16 Decision was made to extend our oil change intervals to 7,500 miles. Since our vehicles spend a good bid of time idling we felt this was the best interval for our needs. By extending our trucks from 3500 miles to 7500 miles, lower operational cost.

17 Light Duty Diesels run about 150 dollars to perform a regular oil change service. If you average 15,000 miles a year with the 3500 mile interval that about 4 oil changes a year. 150 x 4= 600 dollars with 3500 intervals 150 x 2= 300 dollars with 7500 intervals 600 x 10 = $6, x 10 = $3,000 Cutting the lifetime cost for those type of services 50% Run this throughout the Fleet extending other fluid service intervals, you save thousands

19 Technology Changes Diesel Exhaust Fluid and Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) Systems New refrigerant Electrical/Module Programming Aluminum bodies

20 Tier 4 and DEF Fluid Tier 4 refers to a set of emissions requirements established by the EPA to reduce emissions of particulate matter (PM), oxides of nitrogen (NOx) and air toxics from new, non-road diesel engines. As part of this clean air initiative, the EPA proposed New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) to define the acceptable levels of emissions in large stationary generator sets. Standards set forth by NSPS are intended to regulate national emissions and are designed to be progressively tightened over time to achieve a steady rate of air quality improvement without unreasonable economic disruption.

Try and control high idle times DEF Fluid (Diesel Exhaust Fluid)is something we all are dealing with Costs us about $5 a gallon. As we buy more trucks/equipment we have a more need for it. Refilling tanks at the shop is easy but in the field is creating some difficulty

25 Training employees on the need and the use of the types of vehicles they operate. Have training courses on this and teach them what to do when certain things happen. That they must refill the tanks Not just wait until the machine shuts down.

26 These systems require special plastic tanks and pumps. Contamination is an issue, so be careful. Temp is also a problem, it will freeze and it doesn t like hot temps. Vehicles do not like bad DEF and will set DTC s and can cause vehicle derate or limp home mode.

27 Refrigerant R-1234yf Started using it around depends on vehicle manufacturer. Haven t seen it yet in the heavier truck side or equipment side, yet! Uses same Compressor, drier, oil type, etc. as R-134a. This refrigerant breaks down in the atmosphere in about 11 days verses R-134a, which breaks down after about 13 years.

28 Cant use your existing A/C Recover Machine. Cost to buy the new type machine around $8,000 Cost to buy an *11 pound* container is estimated at 1,100 dollars. Compared to the R-134a container of a 30 pound bottle at 90 dollars.

30 As vehicles have gotten more and more intelligent by adding more and more modules (computers), a real need to be able to perform these could be helpful. If not capable, outsourcing will be needed more often for a lot of issues. Vehicles can have as may as 15 or more modules A lot of issues are being addressed with Flashing Requiring additional cost to OEM software's. 33 Training Training has become absolute in today s fast changing technologies and advances. It has become necessary in areas of electric propulsion, exhaust after treatment systems and module communication networks and speed. Hybrid and fuels like: Propane, Compressed Natural Gas, and Hydrogen are becoming more common. High Voltage systems (300 Volt) are being used.

35 Employees Hiring in the government sector can be difficult Although holidays, accrued time off, and 40 hour work weeks seem great. Most mechanics expect more in the salary than we can offer Without annual pay increase they can become discouraged and look to the private sector

36 Providing a good work environment, good training program, and allowing them the ability to help create new policies within the department seems to help. Providing a Facility and equipment to perform their jobs easier will help with morale and productivity.
