OBJECT This standard defines the performance requirements of all paint systems used on Jaguar Land Rover eterior body and trim components. This standard is applicable to manufacturing plants, component suppliers and repair processes. REVIEW This document must be reviewed every three years from the date of the last review or update. G SYSTEM COMPONENTS AND GENERAL REQUIREMENTS 1 Substrates Applicable to all painted substrates used on the eterior of JLR vehicles. 2 Substrate Condition The surface must be cleaned by an appropriate method prior to painting. 3 In-Department and Delivery Repairs Paint repairs must meet the requirements of this Engineering Standard. 4 Parts Requirements for Design Verification (DV) and Production Verification (PV) See Appendi B 5 Material Identification Mark All polymeric parts shall bear a material identification mark in accordance with CADJLR Appearance The colour, gloss and finish shall meet the requirements of STJLR , Eterior Paint: Cosmetic Appearance Standard.

3 Title: Performance Requirements of Eterior Page: 3 of 10 H CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM AND USE OF ENGINEERING STANDARD ON ENGINEERING RELEASE Components shall be specified by reference to this standard followed by suffies defining the application and special requirements as shown below. 1 Service Temperature The first suffi shall be numerical and denote maimum ambient service temperature ( C) to which the component shall be subjected. This shall be adopted as the 'in service' temperature in the TPJLR Accelerated Environmental Test and TPJLR Heat Ageing. 2 Flammability The suffi 'FR' shall be used if compliance with the ISO 3795 flammability test is required. This is only required for painted components that are for under bonnet applications. The burn rate must be self-etinguishing or must not eceed 80 mm per minute. 3 Additional Requirements The suffi 'Z' shall be used if any additional requirements and/or deviations from this Engineering Standard are required. These shall be recorded in full on the relevant Engineering Release. Eample of Engineering Standard: - STJLR /95 - This denotes a painted component that is: - Subject to a maimum ambient service temperature of 95 C. I SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS The test schedule and acceptance criteria for painted components are detailed in Tables 1, 2, 3 and 4. Intentionally Blank

10 Title: Performance Requirements of Eterior Page: 10 of 10 APPENDIX B: Continued The above document represents the required levels of painted part validation, dependent on supplier, material or application process history. It is to be used in discussions with the Materials Engineering Department when developing a programme, Design Verification Plan (DVP). A copy of the original part laboratory test report/psw sign off must be attached in RMDV² as evidence that any new part complies with the carry over content listed, thus permitting a reduced level of validation testing. Otherwise, the part defaults to a full, level1 test validation programme. APPENDIX C: COMPONENT PAINT PERFORMANCE EVALUATION MULTIPLE TESTING Component Paint Performance Evaluation Multiple Testing To ensure robustness and test results reproducibility of the applied paint coating multiple testing of components (not a single sample or test) must be carried out on the following test matri parameters:- Paint Adhesion Resistance to Stone Chipping Resistance to High Pressure Hot Water Resistance to Humidity Resistance to Water Soak Materials Engineering recommend that for large components e.g. bumpers, grilles etc. A minimum sample size of 4 components must be tested and each sample shall be validated in at least 4 sites. Small components e.g. mirror scalps, door handles, fog lamp bezels etc. A minimum sample size of 6 components shall be tested. APPENDIX D: DEFINITION OF A TECHNICAL PAINT FINISH Technical Finishes are defined as three coat paint systems consisting of primer, base coat and clear coat with a base coat solids level (Non Volatile Content) of 10%. Such finishes are Atlas, Dark Atlas, Graphite Atlas and White Atlas. For further advice contact Materials Engineering.
