5 THE ORIGIN OF SAIPEM IN THE DRILLING BUSINESS STARTING FROM 50s, SAIPEM HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN THE DRILLING BUSINESS, GIVING ITS CONTRIBUTION TO THE GROWTH OF THE OIL&GAS AND TO FACE INDUSTRY CHALLENGES SUCH AS THE MID WATER IN THE 70s AND, FROM THE END OF 90s, THE DEEP AND ULTRA DEEP WATER. TODAY SAIPEM IS A DRILLING CONTRACTOR FOCUSED ON HARSH ENVIRONMENT, FRONTIER AND REMOTE AREAS AND ABLE TO PERFORM OPERATIONS AT HIGH QUALITY STANDARDS. 4

6 It is not easy to date back the start of the presence of Saipem in the drilling business, because merged in the activities of its mother company Eni until early 50s. In that period, more precisely in 1953, the first nucleus of the today Saipem (this name started to be used in late 60 s) was established collecting the drilling operations performed under the umbrella of Eni, mainly in Italy, until that time. And then in the 50 s and 60 s Saipem started to grow in the onshore drilling expanding its presence in North Africa, in Middle East and in South America - often supporting the growth of Eni - and in the offshore drilling with the construction of the first European jack-up Scarabeo/Saipem Uno (which drilled the first European offshore well in Sicily, Italy) followed by the jack-ups Perro Negro, Gatto Selvatico, Paguro and by Scarabeo 2, the first semisubmersible of the Saipem fleet. The growth of Saipem carried on, both through the consolidation of the presence in the areas where the company was already present and through the expansion to further areas, very often with a role of pioneer. So, in the 70 s, 80 s and 90 s, in the onshore drilling Saipem consolidated its presence in areas such as South America, North Africa and Italy and expanded its activities in West Africa and in the Caspian, region where Saipem arrived in the early 90 s and has been involved in many key drilling projects, normally in remote regions and in harsh environment. Regarding the offshore drilling, in the 70 s Saipem, as other main drilling contractors at that time, started to face the challenge of mid water: the semisubs Scarabeo 3 and 4, as well as the drillship Saipem Due, were the answer to this demand of the industry. Then, in the early 90 s, Saipem has further expanded its fleet with the deep water semi Scarabeo 5 which, together with Scarabeo 6, has allowed Saipem to give its contribution to the development of the North Sea (mainly Norway), area still today important for the offshore drilling of Saipem. Starting from the end of 90 s to today Saipem further expanded and consolidated its presence especially in South America, in Africa, in Middle East and in the Caspian areas representing the core of the current activities of Saipem in the onshore drilling. In the same period, around 2000, Saipem further expanded its offshore drilling fleet with the aim to face a new challenge for the drilling contractors: the deep and ultradeep water. So the semi Scarabeo 7 and the drillship Saipem (the founder of the current modern family of deep water drillships) joined the fleet of Saipem. Later, around , the deep water offer of Saipem was further expanded with the semi Scarabeo 8 (designed for operations in the harsh environment of Barents Sea), Scarabeo 9 (an innovative dual ram rig) and the drillship Saipem (a unit able to operate at the frontier of the deep water). In the same period the shallow water fleet has been enlarged as well with the new modern high specs jack-ups Perro Negro 7 (2008) and Perro Negro 8 (2010). So, this is the historical background which has led today Saipem to be a drilling contractor working both in the onshore and in the offshore drilling, focused on harsh environment, frontier and remote areas and able to perform operations at high quality standards for all the oil&gas companies. 5

7 SAIPEM TODAY IN THE DRILLING BUSINESS AS AN INTERNATIONAL DRILLING CONTRACTOR, SAIPEM OPERATES IN SOME OF THE HARSHEST ONSHORE AND OFFSHORE ENVIRONMENTS AND HAS BEEN OR IS INVOLVED IN SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT DRILLING PROGRAMMES IN EUROPE, FSU, NORTH, WEST AND EAST AFRICA, MIDDLE EAST AND AMERICAS, IN SYNERGY WITH THE GROUP S ONSHORE AND OFFSHORE ACTIVITIES. 6

8 In offshore drilling, Saipem today is a medium size player in the top ranking of the international drilling contractors, specialized in the deep water and in harsh environments. Its fleet is composed of 16 units and includes: 7 deep water units (2 drillships and 5 semisubmersibles), 2 mid water semisubmersibles, 2 high specification jack-ups for operations in water depths above 300 ft, 4 standard jack-ups for operations up to 300 ft water depth and 1 tender assisted unit. In 2007 Saipem launched an ambitious programme of expansion of its drilling fleet, through which it has strengthened its presence in the deep water segment (acquisition of the ultradeep water drillship Saipem and of two sixth generation semisubmersibles, Scarabeo 8 and Scarabeo 9; upgrading of the semisubmersible, Scarabeo 6 to deep water) and it has increased its fleet also in the shallow water segment thanks to two high specification jack-ups (Perro Negro 7 and Perro Negro 8) and to one tender assisted unit (Saipem TAD). In the onshore drilling Saipem operates a fleet of more than 100 units with different capacities. It is one of the largest drilling contractors operating in the international market. Saipem has a leading position and is a reference drilling contractor in many key areas, such as Saudi Arabia, North Africa, Caspian area and South America. The onshore drilling fleet has been enlarged as well, adding more than 50 units in the last 5 years and doubling the market share of Saipem. The enlargement of the fleet has allowed to reinforce the presence of Saipem in key markets such as Saudi Arabia and Kazakhstan, and to open new ones, such as Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Ukraine. With this fleet and its experienced and competent personnel, Saipem aims at meeting three key objects with every project it undertakes: Performance excellence (maximum reliability of operations with the minimum non-productive time) to maximize client satisfaction. Highest standards for health and safety. Achievement of a sustainable approach. Thanks to the large experience of operating personnel and specific policies for the rigs maintenance, Saipem can provide drilling services with the minimum incidence of non-productive time. Also the performances in terms of HSE standards are steadily at excellent levels and significantly below the average of IADC (International Association of Drilling Contractors). Key points of Saipem adopted approach are sustainability, attention to environment and generation of wealth for all the communities and stakeholders involved in the activities of Saipem. A good example is represented by the local content generated in the onshore drilling activities: more the 90% of the operating personnel of Saipem comes from the countries in which Saipem operates. 7

9 DRILLING VESSELS SAIPEM HAS RECENTLY COMPLETED A MAJOR INVESTMENT PROGRAMME WHICH HAS STRENGTHENED ITS FLEET, PARTICULARLY IN THE DEEP AND ULTRA DEEP WATER SECTOR. THE SHALLOW WATER FLEET HAS BEEN REINFORCED AS WELL, THANKS TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF TWO HIGH SPECIFICATION JACK-UPS. Saipem operates in the offshore drilling segment with sixteen rigs. The fleet includes two high specification jack-ups (able to work in more than 300 ft wd; Perro Negro 7 and Perro Negro 8), four standard jackups (able to work in up to 300 ft wd; Perro Negro 2, Perro Negro 3, Perro Negro 4 and Perro Negro 5); a tender assisted drilling barge (the Saipem TAD, capable to move drilling packages with a 100 t crane); five deep water semisubmersibles (for operations in more than 1,000 m wd: the sixth generation Scarabeo 8 and Scarabeo 9, the fifth generation Scarabeo 7, the fourth generation Scarabeo 5, the third generation Scarabeo 6); two ultra-deep water drillships (Saipem and Saipem 12000); two mid water semisubmersibles (the second generation Scarabeo 3 and Scarabeo 4). 8
