22 4. VFD Description Two twelve-pulse VFD Drilling transformers provide 690VAC to the VFDs lineup incomer cubicles. The four incomer/rectifier sections in the Tween Deck AC Drive line-up rectify AC input voltage from the VFD Drilling transformers in order to create DC power for use by the inverters. The Inverters are separated into two line-ups, the Tween Deck and Cantilever line-ups. The Tween Deck lineup contains six VSDs for mud pump operation with the following motor loads: MP1A, MP1B, MP2A, MP2B, MP3A, MP3B. The Cantilever lineup contains four VSDs for top drive and drawwworks operations with the following motor loads: DWA, DWB, DWC, TD. In order to dissipate excess energy from braking cycles, three braking chopper modules are supplied, one for each DW inverter. These chopper modules turn on when DC voltage exceeds a preset limit and are located in the Cantilever VFD lineup. The braking resistors are seawater cooled and are remote located.
