5 Manufacturing Process 5 PET is made by condensation of Pure Terepthalic Acid (PTA) with Ethylene Glycol (EG). The reaction involved is direct esterification, followed by polycondensation. The reaction is carried out in one or more reactors above atmospheric pressure and at elevated temperature. Excess glycol is used for carrying out the reaction, which is recovered during polycondensation and recycled.water is bi-product in this reaction. One of the safest chemical operation.
